TWW Grimlock scratch build: Updated 9/21/05: Preview
Looking fantastic so far, VP.
On the gun front, the weapon used as a grapple in WW was actually his 'galaxial rocket launcher', as supplied with the toy. However, his actual gun was a double-barrelled rifle affair that fired mini-missiles.
Scroll down here for pics of the weapons, so you've got the basic idea.

Thanks for the link. I thought maybe TWW Grim would have different guns than G1 but seems like even if the guns are different, it would still be based on the G1. So I'll probably go ahead and base the gun off of G1.

Yes. In fact, all of the parts will be casted. I have the upper parts ready for casting too. Just need my materials to come in. The only parts I won't cast are the screws (of course), the rods, and the hands. It'll be nearly impossible to cast articulated hands.

My own grim is still waiting for a lot more work but I simply cant put myself to it.. dunno, it just take so long to scratchbuilt!
Yours is looking awesome. thumbs up!
I know exactly what you mean. It is VERY time consuming. The hardest part of about scratchbuilding is trying to find patience. I have other projects I want to do. Plus when I see completed projects posted it makes me want to finish this project quickly. But I know trying to rush it will produce a less than good piece. So...patience, patience.

It really dose look good. those castings are impressive. When you can see the origional it is obvious where the joins etc are but in the casting it comes out clean. are those screws in the sides holding the leg peices together or are they one peice (lower legs)?

Those are screws. I plan to screw together most of the casted parts. I plan to use as little glue as possible, at least on the casted parts. Of course I'll glue all the parts when scratchbuilding with styrene before casting. After casting, they should become one piece anyways. The lower leg is 3 pieces (not counting the foot/toes).

If it turns out good, I will probably make a few and sell them. I probably won't make anymore than 10 though.

To be honest, it would probably have to be over $100 which is why I'll most likely put them on ebay. Its costing me a couple of hundred already (at least) to make this thing. Cost of styrene, molding/casting materials is getting quite expensive (truth be told I haven't been frugal about the uses of the materials). I don't intend to make money off of it but would like to recoup the cost of making it. I do want at least one member of this board to have one so a fair way would be to maybe give it away as a prize for a contest or something. But of course, the final product has to be good. I don't want to sell crap or even give away crap.

Although it will probably stay with just friction, I am planning on a locking mechanism. Nothing complicated though, just peg in hole mechanism.

That price seems way fair, all will confirm that over here.
Ya know, if you really intend to pull this off in time, let me or TFM know and we'll think of a good and appropriate contest.
I'm sure there would be enough animo
