I think the head looks great.

Painting the head black, which I assume your going to do, might not make the teeth so predominate. Especially is you use a flat black. Another thing you could do is build out the cheek pieces closer to face plate. This might cover up some of the teeth but you'll still maintain Don's design. Just a thought. :)

I think the head looks perfect but the only problem I see is that it sits up too high.

Lower the head a little where the chin is slightly hidden by the collar.

Should look better like that IMO.

Wow, coming from an expert head sculptor, that's a huge compliment and validates the head for me. :) Although I may actually extend the mouth plate just a tad bit to have it cover the teeth a bit more. Kind of similiar to what Lobo suggested but extending the mouth plate instead of the cheek plates. And yeah, I realize the head sits a bit too high. Originally I was going to use Alt Grim's head as the base for the sculpt and therefore constructed the head base/peg for that, but then I ended up using Alt Wheeljack as the base. Unfortunately Alt WJ's head sits up higher than Alt Grim, so I have to lower the head peg a bit which I will do.

I'm far from an expert head sculpter. I just do as well as I can with what I have to work with...speaking of wich...

You used Alt WJ's head huh? Now I may have to take a crack at it. Also, now taking a second look I notice you made his EARS his EYEBROWS. Take a look at the commic again. Those points come from the side/center of his dome. It looks awsome the way it is but if your going for accuracy then it's in the wrong spot.

Again, Great Headsculpt.

Yeah, I know the "ears" sit more back but actually I didn't want to make the ears. For that part, I went with Don's concept art and went with the forehead crest instead of the ears as I like the crest better. I explained this a few posts up. :D I know I mixed and match from the comics, don's concept art, and 10 fingers but I just went with what I like from those and added my own stuff of what I like so its not really 100% accurate to any one design. But even the drawings from the comics differs from each volume (volume 1 versus volume 2).

Edit: here's the headshot of the concept art I'm talking about. I'm sure you've seen this already. He has the forecrest/crown instead of "ears".

Very minor update: I added something I thought was neat. Can anyone guess what it is? Also, I lowered the head peg a tad bit so the head is not sticking out so much.

Handcarved? No, I don't have such skills. I was looking at my E. Storm Jet and noticed the faction symbol was molded onto him as oppose to just painted on so I thought it would look cool on Grim rather than slapping on a sticker. I noticed symbols were molded on before but didn't think of using it on my Grim til now. Basically all I did was took an imprint (mold) of the symbol and poored resin into the mold and voila. Here's a closer look.

Man that is turnning out good.

The insignia looks cool and all but wouldn't it have been better to have reprolables do the Don Style Autobot Symbols you see in the WW Books? Ther are slightly different then normal. Just thought it would be a even cooler nod to Don but it still looks good as is.

As far as the head goes, it looks 100 times better lowered like that and everything else seems to fit better in proportions.

Hmm...would you consider having it professionally casted?

Maybe you and Ken can work out a deal to get those out there.

(Also, please PM me about him. I'd still love to be one of the first to own him.)

love the insignia

TFmaster is right though about the TWW looks for the logo
is it possible to resculpt the current autobot logo to the TWW version?

I actually knew it was drawn differently but I thought it was just poor drawing of the G1 insignia, lol. Didn't know it was purposely a different design. I think it looks simple enough to actually carve out by hand. Any pics though of how it really is suppose to look like? Even though the similarities are there, each pic has it drawn slightly different.

I originally was going to just slap on a reprolabel insignia but I think the insignia being molded onto Grim himself looks better. Again, I may try to carve out TWW insignia as it looks simple enough.

As for having it professionally mold casted. The parts as they are right now still needs a good amount of work (e.g. drilling of holes and filling up gaps) so its not going to be an easy to put together type of kit. I actually asked Ken about mold casting fan made stuff (other stuff I had in mind, not TWW Grim) and he said he would charge about $5 a piece. Price also depends on the size of the piece but on average about $5. That's not including how much I want out of it. If I wanted a buck or 2 out of it then it could be $6 or 7 a piece. Grim will end up with probably around over 60 pieces. I don't think that's affordable for many people, especially as only kits. JDP uses little factories in China to reproduce his stuff. You know those factories in China charge significantly less than here or Canada because they pay their workers peanuts, yet he still would have to charge about $100 for an 8 inch tall figure kit in order to make even a small profit. For example the TWW Bumblebee look-a-like (the 8 inch one, not the mini one) that his friend made will sell for $140 just for the kit.

Does the head still seperate into two halves?

If so then you should at least repro that. Have it casted in clear orange then just paint the head all black except a space in the back to let light through and keep the eyes unpainted as well.

Should give that WW Grimlock Eyeglow feel.

Yes, the head is still 2 halves as Alt WJ was. And nice, I like that light piping idea. I may try that. I have clear resin that I can add some color to to give it a translucent effect. That's what I was going to do with the sword.

Thats one of the best fan transformers I have ever seen. Not just that, it is a very fine looking transformer when stacked up against most current figures. It is so good all grey it will be interesting to see if the paint apps make it look more or less proffesional.

Been following this like I followed Jarrod's Prime.

First rate work, dude.

Since you're gonna be casting a few to sell on Ebay, why not ship it unnassembled (to those who request it) with all the screws and pins and brief instructions. Then it'll be like a model kit, too.

If Hasbro ever branched out into models, and produced a "War Within" line, even if they were just snap-together, they'd make a killing from the collectors.

Just a thought.
