And that's not even getting into all of this place's loose figures, let alone all of its non-Transformers stuff (GoBots, Rock Lords, Machine Robo, Star Wars, Power Rangers, Jurassic Park, G.I. Joe, comic books galore). Fossilsaurus MISB!!! :KREMZEEK:

Hot damn!! That is awesome!

I wonder if they have a BWII Thrustor or Autorollers, or even any of the maximals besides Lio, Bighorn, and Apache :-?

I didn't see any of those when I was there, and I definitely looked the whole place over. It was like a mini-BotCon dealer room (or one giant BotCon vendor by itself).

Of course, none of this super-rare stuff was cheap. The Apelinq alone was $500.

Wasn't expecting to be, but the good thing I've found about local shops is they are willing to work with you sometimes and make deals.

I got a near complete G1 Abominus when I bought a G1 Jetfire, G1 Doubledealer, and G1 Astrotrain all complete at my local one 2 years ago as an offer, and the other 3 were already pretty outstanding prices for being complete.

Next year, BWII is one of my 3 focus areas, so I am hoping to luck into some maximals mostly. My preds are mostly secured in some fashion

Don't knock it. G1 product catalogues still hold great value to this day. Besides, the Beast Era had so little official supplementary media, this would have sold regardless.
Oh, I know. I still got an old Kenner toys catalog with Transmetals and Fuzors in it.

But for your comparison to the Sourcebook, this was for product info rather than fiction.
It's my understanding that the Sourcebook covered a bit of both. And shows something interesting about the original Ultra-class Optimus Primal toy: the robot chestplate was supposed to be a launcher. I'd love to get a look at that info some day.
I bet the projectiles would have attached to those nubs in his weapon storage compartments.
WANT:
* Cybertron Galvatron key, missiles
* Omega Lock
* Primus Cyber Key, coattail panel
* Powerlinx Comettor
* Cyb Jetfire R gun and missile
* RiD Galvy dragon head, beast arms
* DotM Ironhide windshield, R hood assy.
* ROTF Jetfire R JTFR panel

The Sourcebooks were written and produced in the style of the old Transformers: Universe profile books from Marvel Comics, or Dreamwave's "More Than Meets the Eye" profile books. There's nothing in them about the real-world toys, only the in-fiction characters.

Not sure where you heard that before since there's none of that in Primal's Sourcebook profile. Here's the page:

After some deliberation, I think I may have figured out what this thing was supposed to be:

Image

Looking through all of the toy concept model sheets that came included with my Karyuudo Fansubs torrent download of Beast Wars Neo, this one has the second-latest Takara date stamp of '98,11,13 (that is, November 13, 1998). All of the earlier-dated model sheets are toy designs for the series' main cast and the guest stars introduced in the first and second thirds of the series.

The only other toy model sheet that is dated later than this one is the following one dated '98,12,15 (December 15, 1998):

Image

While it appears to simply be the toy design for Eggleo/Dark Eggleo, a closer look at the Japanese text reveals that it says "Unicron's minions", which is what the Blentrons were.

This, to me, seems like Takara had, at one point, considered using the Egg Beast molds for the third faction of the series before deciding on the Blentrons, and which they would eventually do in Kiss Players with the Sparkbots.

Of further note is that the text also mentions the mold being a sphere, as if to say that that's its connection to Unicron, who also turned into a sphere.

And what is the Retrax mold's main gimmick?

Image

Looks pretty spherical to me.

Which now brings me back to the original concept in question.

Since this concept is dated later then the model sheets of all of the other characters who did appear in the show, but before the pre-Blentron "Unicron's minions" model sheet, and since this concept uses a mold that has a spherical configuration like both Unicron the Egg Beasts, I theorize that this Retrax retool was also an original concept for what the Unicron-aligned third faction was going to be.

This concept also resembles the Cyborg Beasts of Beast Wars II, which were upgraded Predacon forms created by Angolmois Energy. Since Beast Wars Neo retconned that into being Unicron's energy, it would make sense for Unicron's minions to look like those who had been previously upgraded by his power (as in, resembling the Cyborg Beasts).

In the end, Takara probably opted not to go with this concept because it was easier and more cost effective to just use the existing non-show Deluxe Fuzor molds that had just come out in Kenner's Beast Wars toyline that same year, and then probably came up with calling them "Blentrons" after deciding to use those molds for Unicron's third faction.

With some shuffling happening in the Den, the Beasts have finally gotten their own full shelf, top shelf and all. Kingdom and some BWII stuff will soon help populate this shelf more, looking forward to it

And I love how Big Convoy finally gets to overlook the Den in "F-u Unicron" mode

I'm re-arranging a bit to make room for the incoming Kingdom figures, and with the incoming Primal, I think I have enough Optimsu Primals there for a dedicated shelf now. :-D :lol:

Guess I need to get a Transmetlal Primal now, and the original Optimal Optimus to complete the set.

Nah, he's really a sub version of the original Primal which I like more anyway. I just never liked the open hands and molded in missiles of the RM version.

If I ever find him for under $30 bucks I may be convinced to get him, but I wont actively look for him.
