That was a big thing when it was announced! Takei was not too keen, for some actually good reasons, but I enjoyed it too.
WreckerJack wrote:Wow! I am impressed that you are published!
Thanks! Not my first, but the first one directly out of my thesis onto paper. (If you're curious, I took some time a couple of weeks back to do a thing about those them there publication stuffs.)
WreckerJack wrote:I'll give it a read, I do enjoy books.
IDK if you know of good reads but if you use it I will add you. It's like facebook for reading fans
I do have a goodreads account that was opened aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages ago, but given its affiliation with Amazon (i.e. Amazon owns it) I'm not a fan of it. Nor do I actually use it. I tend to just talk books with people instead.

Wanna talk books?
What books are your favs?
Here is Nightbeat with some of my collection. I am almost finished with a book called Ambulance Girl. Debating upon which book I want to read next, I have a few unread on my shelf. Subirdia which is a book on the secret lives of wild birds, Egyptian Mythology by Geraldine Pinch and Fahrenheit 451 are the current unread contenders
Yeah, I needed to take a break from this DIRE translation, and went to my to-read pile. Here's an older version of me contemplating what's next.
I really have no idea what to get into first! Probably one of the three comics in that picture, or the Chiang short stories (one of them is the basis for Arrival). I'll see later tonight.

Looks like some interesting reads. I sent you my goodreads anyway just in case you wanna look it over if not thats fine too. I do find it a good way to find books in common with others.
There is a book I wanted to read called "I am Malala". It's about a girl in the middle east who did some things to improve education - I'll know the specifics when I read the book itself. I think it is important to read books from other cultures and people with different demographics than yourself so you can understand what other people may experience.

I Am Malala is a great book, recommended indeed. Reading Lolita in Teheran is along similar lines, though from a teaching rather than learning perspective.
And yes, I agree, it's why my current selection of reads is what it is. Plus some scifi and comics. Though even there, I try ranging as widely as possible! (see my sig for more on that belief)

I'm sure you know of the new version of that character, from DC Comics (click for more info).[/url]
Also, Alex did a thing.
I did not know about Snagglepuss. Huh, interesting makes sense.
Congrats on being published
Lot's of book talk here and I'm a bit of a philistine in that dept, but...

I'm the same way about video games, sometimes I just can't decide where I want to invest my time. As a avid lifer of vidjo games I liken games to books more than any other medium. I've always been about the ready, thinky, "intellectual" games. Unfortunately for the last 20 or so years the big game studios have been trying to be movies, but that's a convo for another place and time.

Dude, I have a BA in English Language & Literature, an MA in Literary Translation, a PhD in Literary Translation and Comics Studies, I've taught creative writing and literary criticism, I've had stories and poems published, and I work in book translation. Plus, my arm tattoo is literally 12 quotes from texts I came across during my first degree, in six different languages -- it's safe to say that yes, I am a nerd, and I am proud of it.

Not sure what to make of that panther though.
That's really cool, Va'al! And the book it's in sounds like my kinda reading.
Thanks! I'd try getting you a copy, but I have no access to it. I can send along the article if you're interested though!
For the record, I couldn't sleep last night, so out of this photo:
I read The Arab of the Future (both volumes), Atlante degli Abiti Smessi, and finished the Leckie one I had to one side. Pile is significantly smaller again.

There's something along the lines of an accent on one of those letters, I'm sure of it...
