There's been some speculation that he might be Airrazor's retool for a potential Magnaboss down the road since she has those strange square holes on her back that don't seem to serve a purpose. She also has all those extra joints in her wings that don't have a purpose other than letting her fold her wings forward and she doesn't even use all of them for that.

Image

Wait wait wait...aren't those probably just the pegs for her weapons when they aren't in use in robot mode?

Magnaboss Silverbolt has a fair amount of other differences in the transformation, not least of all the way the eagle head becomes Magnaboss's headdress. I don't think this Airazor could easily become that Silverbolt. The response might be "retool" but then why would they go ahead and put the Magnaboss pegs on Airazor's back now when they could have just waited to put them on Silverbolt for the actual retool?

Much as I want you to be on to something with your observations...

I kinda want a green and black rid2015 Grimlock dinobot reuse too, if they want to call him cruellock I'd be fine with that too (as long as they sort out the dino arms, which if/when I pick up dinobot he's got a date with a hairdryer or very hot water in hopes it sorts them out -if transformation allows).

As much as I love Sea Clamp, Ram Horn and okay maybe not so much Cicadacon they could probably do something with the Deluxe Insecticons or retoolings of, to reduce costs. I cant remember what maedia the deluxe insecticons were in so I'm not sure if having all three in deifferent size classes would matter to me (or a combined mode, at least it would be a way of getting all 3 of them).

G1 Ultra Magnus cannot be done at the Leader price point in this day and age, without compromises of some sort.

Sure, but I don't think having the arms jutting out like that was absolutely necessary either.
I really don't think that they didn't have a choice there if they were going to have the separate cab robot in the first place.
You know how Earthrise Optimus' trailer is such a thin, shrunken shell of the G1 trailer because of mass limits and how much is eaten up by the Voyager-size Prime himself? They were basically in the same boat with Ultra Magnus. They could spare some mass by making the cab what I call a "Voyager lite," but even that wouldn't leave enough mass to do the full G1 trailer with its completely separate, larger set of arms and its larger set of legs without some truly horrific thinning and hollowing.

That meant having to use the cab robot's own arms for both modes, so the arms basically had to be as thick as they are because of the super robot mode - if they weren't that thick, they wouldn't be able to adequately support the forearm armor and shoulder pylons.
If they tied to make arms that thick tuck into the chest a la G1.. Leaving aside the problem of where to put the hands, that would require part of his torso to be a mere 1cm wide. Which... doesn't exactly seem like it would look or function well.

So, they either had to stick them behind the cab and minimize their presence as best as possible (probably banking on the white to quasi-camouflage the hands), or borrow CW Optimus' engineering and have the arms and shoulders make the front of the cab. The latter would have resulted in a cleaner look and probably been friendlier to the Galaxy Upgrade retool, but I think it would have caused some trouble for wearing the armor, so...

Gauntlet101010 wrote:Nor do I think smaller hands would be as bad as you make them out to be.
I think they would, I think hands small enough to fold into the forearms without interfering with the armor connector ports would look really shrimpy in his armored mode. On top of that, they'd give Mags a moderate case of Slag Hands Syndrome in that mode. What's Slag Hands Syndrome?
Image
A term I just coined for the problem of a character's hand being so small relative to their forearm that it causes problems for holding weapons. I decided to name it after Slag because he's an early example and has a very severe case.

One more thing is that such hands would also surely come at the cost of exposed arm gaps, so there's that to think about as well.

Gauntlet101010 wrote:I mean, your own failure of imagination and the current design doesn't mean it's impossible.
I resent that remark. I've actually been brainstorming about this ever since SIEGE Magnus was revealed...

I think they did the best that could be managed under the circumstances.

I don't think it's great, but I think it's the best that they could have done under the circumstances and thus it's at least passable. It's not like, say, MPM Ironhide's feet, where there's no excuse.

I like Emerje's idea of some sort of accessory to cover the hands. I understand not doing that in SIEGE because of the secondary cannons. Although come to think about it, sacrificing those cannons on the Kingdom release might have been to free up mass for those new trailer side panels with the imitations of the G1 trailer's pillars.

Oh well, maybe something for somebody with a 3D rendering program to put up on Shapeways or Thingiverse. Note that I didn't say third party, because I have lost all faith in the 3P hacks to provide actually-useful upgrade parts going forward.

I think they did the best that could be managed under the circumstances.

You just have to accept that I don't agree with you.

They've designed tons of G1 Primes at this point. A lot of them are small too, making the most out of just a few parts.

https://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:TF-WFC-Kin ... -Prime.jpg

I don't see why something like this design is impossible, for instance. I'm going through legends class and all those seem to have viable transformations schemes that don't require robot arms to stick out of the back of the cab.

Anyway.

The cab looks bad. I think it was entirely avoidable. That's the last I'll say on it because it's just derailing the entire thread and we're going in circles.

Wow, that's abysmal. It's like it has a cancerous growth on the back of it's truck mode! There really should be a "worst iteration of G1 Prime's cab" list.

So, it's a choice between to robot arms sticking out the back and robot feet poking out like feet from under a blanker that's too small. Or a massive pile of garbage that, while not looking like a defined robot, also doesn't look like a truck either.

I'd have to say Primes looks worse. I mean, at least Siege or Kingdom looks like a defined, solid vehicle. Not a convincing one. Even the legs aren't really solid. But it doesn't look like it's barely holding itself together either.

So, I guess there's that!

Are you asking about the Kingdom version? (Since this is the Kingdom thread :-D ) I don't think we can make a correct judgment until the Magnus cab is actually in hand. But from the looks of it so far, I'll go with the Magnus cab being slightly worse. Slightly. At least Orion didn't have his hands blatantly sticking out. His legs folded up there but at least there was an attempt to make it look somewhat disguised.

I also believe, that if the Magnus arms were necessary to be so thick, they could have had the hands fold in.

So, I keep hearing that it's insisted that figures like Inferno (Ant), Terrorsaur and Tarantulas may never see the light of day in the Kingdom line. It's a dirty shame if any of you ask me. I'm happy to see that we can get pretty much all the original Maximals from season 1, but not all the Beast Wars Predacons.

I'm probably one of the many who is going to have to improvise to fill in the gaps. Inferno is the easiest to fill, since his original toy was actually really decent. Terrorsaur and Tarantulas however? I was hoping we'd get to see them get some MUCH needed TLC, since they really need, in terms of scale, articulation, and their beast modes. Am I the only one who thinks Tarantulas' original toy looks more like a scarab beetle than a tarantula?

If we can't get them for Kingdom? If there's ANYONE in this forum whose in touch with one of those third-party companies? Drop 'em some hints, and let's all pray to Primus they can pull through.

That had more to do with the proportions of the cab and other problems, but each did try to hide the arms and hands like the original G1 toy.

Note that the PotP Prime and Magnus cabs were supposed to have the hands "hidden" by their trailers, but only the latter actually pulled that part off

I'd be less hard on Magnus if the cab portion wasn't marketed as being stand-alone in photography. If that was just something it could do, but not really meant to do (and not advertised as such) I could let it slide.

But Kingdom just makes it worse by making the arms even more visible. However, I like it's painted front end better than the clear bumper / lights / window combo they have going on in Siege.

Heh, I had Magnaboss on the brain, but now that I think about it it might be possible to retool Airrazor into Fuzor Silverbolt at some point, at least in beast mode. Swap out the head and do the same arm trick as the original and you've got Silverbolt. Bot mode could be a little more difficult, but maybe they could pull it off if they work and orb into his chest and tilt the wings.

They aren't, her weapons appear to use standard round pegs and peg into her hips in bird mode.

I've been thinking, seeing as a lot of the character art on the Kingdom poster showing the Autobots and Maximals jumping into action together is the same artwork used on the front of each toy's packaging, and Bumblebee is there, how likely would it be for a repaint of Deluxe Bumblebee to be an exclusive toy in Kingdom? Perhaps with a more flat daisy yellow instead of the more golden yellow on the Netflix version?

This is mostly wishful thinking on my part because the window of opportunity to get Netflix Bumblebee for a reasonable price is starting to close and I still don't have one.

Perhaps with a more flat daisy yellow instead of the more golden yellow on the Netflix version?

This is mostly wishful thinking on my part because the window of opportunity to get Netflix Bumblebee for a reasonable price is starting to close and I still don't have one.

I think 'Bee is a lock for wave 3 or 4.
All of the Deluxes are already known. Bee is not among them. Arcee and Wheeljack are the only Deluxes getting rereleased.

Wow, all of them? I probably already know this. lol

I think it's probably a little dumb to triple up on WHeeljack and have 'Bee on the poster with no representation in the set.
