I did recall the quote saying that both the Commander Class and Titan Class would not be based on BW. I'm honestly glad we are still getting one for next year, I thought we might not. There are still a few big guys out there before we go back to Metroplex, but it wouldn't surprise me.

As for the Commander Class...this could be our one hope. It would be cool to get Victory Saber (Basically a leader Star Saber (based on unused designs from the Throne of the Primes fanvote), and Leader Victory Leo together). Of course, some might be thinking that selling 2 leaders for only $80 isn't possible, and that may be true, but when you look at TR/Legends God Ginrai (Made of Super Ginrai and God Bomber together) he stands basically the same size as Siege Jetfire. Of course parts count and mass may come into play. I know some people wouldn't mind a CC Star Saber by himself, but without the prospect of a Victory leo, it just doesn't seem as satisfying.

To be fair, if they only do Star Saber and Victory Leo as a set, then they would be able to minimize the amount of molds required by combining different sections of the figures on one set, rather than making twice as many for two Leader class figures, which would probably cut the cost down to $80. Only issue is that people would complain about it not being in scale because Star Saber's supposed to be combiner sized

Not as sure about the Commander as I am about Metroplex, but my first guess would be Broadside (the leaker on TFW implied it wasn't Star Saber or Deathsaurus), since he's pretty big.

Honestly, this is why I really wish Star Saber had won the POTP fan vote. I know that him being combiner height is the correct scale, but I'm not a fan of it. I would have much rather had him at Prime Wars Leader size than a towering Commander.

Serious question: how did Japanese exclusive toys become so popular? Did it happen early on in the fandom? Was it driven by the original toys, a TFWiki entry, how did it happen??

not sure if they would, but there is definitely some demand for armada love. and honestly, there's not a whole lot of other non combiner "commander" scale characters I can think of of the top of my head. At least not ones I can envision hasbro re-making so soon.

I cant speak for others, but my enjoyment goes all the way back to when they were actually airing. I had a friend in the 5th grade (would have been 87-88) who moved to my neighborhood from Japan. He had cool things like the original Famicom, and Super Mario 2 (not the version we got, the one later named "lost levels"). He had family members also send him VHS tapes with the japanese TF series taped from TV broadcasts, I saw a couple Masterforce episodes, and to me that was the "season 5" we should have got but didn't (didn't know about headmasters until a few years later). I even wrote letters to hasbro asking why these episodes weren't airing in the United States...never got a reply, go figure. I learned about the toys from the commercials on the tapes, and other anime in magazines in the early 90's. Since to ME these are the true continuation of the Sunbow series, My enjoyment of these characters grew. Not sure when the overall acceptance came, because I remember meeting much resistance, even as recent as 10 years ago, so many saying "That's not G1, its just random japanese crap..." In hindsight, I wish I could have used Luke's line from TLJ "Amazing...everything you just said is wrong"

Oh, trust me, I hate that height too. Part of the reason I didn't pick up Siege Jetfire despite all the good reviews and such was that I felt he was too big. Titan class figures for some reason occupy this space in my mind where they're allowed to dwarf everything, but when a character is combiner sized, I take an issue with it. Only reason I'd pick up a "proper scale" Star Saber would be because I can justify the Star Saber unit as a sort of Hyperdrive unit that also gives Saber a boost in power in robot mode. I hope we get both Star Saber and Victory Leo as Prime War sized leaders for the Commander for next year, especially because I feel like Victory Leo's beast mode would allow him to "bridge the gap" between the G1 and Beast Wars figures

A mix of things really, part of the allure is they were toys that never appeared, how they were used in fiction etc. It's the same with Guiltor (or how ever his name is spelt) and a whole host of others. Overlord and Black Shadow managed to get further then most.

Early on the fandom, driven by the sheer elusive nature of toys and media produced exclusively for a non-English-speaking market. The early fandom set the Japanese G1/G2/BW stuff on a pedestal of mystery and wonder based on how little was actually known about them in the West at the time. A simple case of "People want what they can't have."

It took fansubs, UK/AU DVDs, manga translations, and Ebay for people to experience what they were missing out on back in 1987-1999.

There is precedent for that. Various times in the Victory anime, Saber would walk around in his base form when not in combat or when fighting lower tier enemies, and would switch to his larger Star Saber form to fight the likes of Dinoking and Liokaiser, as there were many instances where neither Road Caesar nor Landcross were around or available to fight them, leaving Star Saber to take them on himself.

Now this has got me hyped! I'm definitely getting most of the characters on this poster, but as I said earlier in the thread, I'll probably skip the Rattrap and Rhinox because the Thrilling 30 versions are still good enough for me. For the G1 characters I'll definitely get Bumblebee, but I'm satisfied with Earthrise Optimus and I've already pre-ordered Earthrise Megatron. As far as the Commander discussion, I don't have nor particularly want Jetfire or Sky Lynx, but I'd be down for a Commander Star Saber.

lots of this can be found online with some research. but Tfwiki has most of it compiled: https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Beast_Wars:_Transformers_(cartoon)

sadly this does mean we likely wont be seeing any of the transmetals designs in the line. I would LOVE to see an updated transmetal tarantulus and rattrap. also means wont see them in the masterpiece line as well. (I would so be down for a MP rampage and depthcharge)

Actually most of my original BW purchases were from later in the series. The only non Transmetals I had were Tigatron, Magnaboss, & Tripredacus. But yeah, I get why in Japan it wasn't popular at the time. I wanted to go back and get the first season Primal and Megatron, but I wanted the TT release as it was a 2-pack (to go with my 2 pack Lio Convoy/Galvatron & Big Convoy/Magmatron), sadly I never got one.

My favorites were always the bigger releases (Rampage, Depthcharge, TM2 Megatron, Tigerhawk). In fact I found a Tigerhawk about 2 years ago for my son at a flea market. Missiles were missing, but other than that it is in great shape. I'm not exactly sure how those later figures could be improved upon despite them being over 20 years old now themselves, but I'm sure Hasbro could come up with something if future lines go in that direction.

That seems like a huge jump to conclusions to me. I'm not necessarily expecting three Cheetors or two of each of the main cast, but I would be surprised if we don't see any Transmetal versions. There will definitely be demand for Depth Charge and Rampage, and TM2 Megatron could double as a Beast Machines Megatron or have a redeco for Robots in Disguise. We also don't have any idea if this trilogy will have a hard stop or inform the next cycle.

I'm not saying Japanese demand won't matter, and I have no idea one way or the other if the response to the show means there isn't demand, but there's just not enough information to speculate out that far with any confidence.

for the main line it is a jump to conclusions I admit, but not for the masterpiece line, which is where I said I would like to see Depth Charge and Rampage. The reason we don't have masterpiece dinobots, outside of grimlock, has been specifically stated in the past to be due to them not being popular enough in Japan. (that and TakaraTomy are to busy constantly re-inventing the wheel, so to speak... and then repainting it) so with the beastwars metals not being popular in Japan, MP versions of them seem highly unlikely.

Still, we used to think we would never see a reissue of g1 shockwave, and that happened. There also used to be a notion floating around some Hasbro higher ups that "Beast Wars was a mistake" leading some to speculate we wouldn't see new beast wars again, and now that is happening. So here is hoping that Has/Tak prove me wrong.

...seriously I want them to.
