Thats the point of a tech tree though, we dont have to fill all the combinations with all of them, just certain types. All cannons will be a variant of the first and as long as we have the 5 basics stat weighting covered; 100/0%, 75/25% and 50/50%, 25/75% and 0/100% then we will have pretty much all likely combinations covered. Then we would add the wild cards and we wouldnt need much more than the 7 Caelus listed. Im approaching this from a RPG'ers perspective though, not a number crunchers ill admit.
Mostly, I had this sort of OCD desire to establish a 'tech tree' where plain<laser<energon etc., ...
I like it. Then everyone has a chance of a variant of their weapon of choice; those who want to carry a cannon can have a variant of 'cannon' do all the way through.
You get the idea. It's pretty vague of course because I never finished it - it would require a total reset, when I'd be free to rename all the weapons as I see fit, to do.
Ah, ok. Didnt realise you couldnt edit existing ones. Bummer.

Re: weapons
yeah i didin't understand a single bit of that, psych.
each individual new stat NEEDS to offer an increase in damage or you end in the sitution we are with 2 rank.

Re: weapons
that's great I'd love a tech tree, and i'm all for systematic taxonomy(i'm a microbiologist by enducation)
but look at this way
say we have 5 types of weapons
we have 121 stat combinations
say 3 recharges
5 damage ranges
that's 9075 individual weapons...... and a systemwide reset.
Ah, but remember, each of those weapon archetypes represents a recharge/damage range combination.
So it wouldn't be 5x121x3x5.
It would be 121x3x5 which comes to 1800 something, or, more likely, just 121 (stat combinations) x 5 (weapon archetypes) which is 600 something. Still a lot, but if we ever seriously looked at a reset, I'd hope we could make some improvements to how the weapons' page displays.

I can edit weapons already available or even already in possession, I tested that ability with the Laser Rifle/Laser Pistol switch.
However, the matter is whether I should. People have a lot of money invested in their weapons, as much as 2.4 million Energon I think.
Altering damage values and recharges was a big change, but had good technical justification. If I pursued this course of action though, it would be almost entirely for aesthetic purposes, which would be fairly weak justification when someone opens up their bot and finds that it's sporting a Plasma Rifle instead of Poisonous Paralyzer Fluids.

Re: weapons
ah
well cealus, with the medians you can pretty much go of instict with your stuff and make a tech tree as you go with the weapons, with pretty much got the maths down(Until Mkall sorts the COF stuff out) so the fluff is yours to do with as you like, if you can keep a systematic taxonomy that'd be BRILLIANT! so what if we have 90 weapons of 600 that aren't strictly following the class rules.

Tammuz, what Cealus said. Its late and im clearly gibbering.
Caelus, I was thinking mroe of just altering the names of the ones with requirements relevant to the ideas you had as opposed to editing them fully. ie, Same gun with a different name that fits the list.

Yeah, that would be time consuming but easy. Like I said though, some people, mainly those that play from an RP perspective, may not appreciate suddenly having their weapons renamed.
I was treading on unethicality when I switched the Laser Pistol and the Laser Rifle.

I admit it.
I am merely a product of Tammuz's scientific manipulations.
Ok not really, but it's semi-true... Tammuz gives me formulas and data (or at least points me in the direction to find data) and I produce spreadsheets that can nearly mimic what Tammuz can do naturally.
Other than that I'm quite useless
Damn you Tammuz for not making me into a more versitle bacteria !
