Two things to remember
1. The Bay Transformers sometimes look like their G1 counterpart and sometimes they have absolutely no resemblance at all in alt mode or face (Megatron and Soundwave for example) so comparing this dude to a G1 cartoon does little good.
2. The movie story lines are new but the backgrounds bear a resemblance to G1 storylines.
There are a couple of deactivated Transformers in the trailer and the storyline of the ark plus introduction of Shockwave as the main villain means that those on the ark are in fact the Dinobots, moustache man is likely to be Snarl, although he looks a lot like the Dinobot combiner too.
Bay had mentioned he wanted to introduce the Dinobots eventually and the Pretender Alice in ROTF was to show robots can have a living skin on the outside of metal.

Megatron's head actually does have some resemblance to the original version, but it's a very gritty interpretation. On the other hand, Soundwave's head looks like a moviefied version of his original look. I think a far better example is Starscream's head as it bears no resemblance to his G1 look (or any others that I am aware of). In fact, outside of your two examples and Prime and Jazz, just about all the other Transformers heads have been completely redesigned (Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide, Sideswipe, Jetfire, and Skids to name a few).

While this is somewhat true, the movies are actually using an amalgam of story concepts from across TF history, not just G1. That is something Bay said he was looking to do from day one, find things he liked from any of the franchises and build off of them.

Just because the ship might be the Ark does not mean there are any Dinobots. My understanding is that Sentinal Prime is confirmed as being in DotM, so I'm leaning strongly towards Mustached-bot being him. This line of thought comes from the fact that post G1 stories have had a Prime leave in a ship (Nova Prime, for one, though I don't know if that's Dreamwave or IDW or both) that may have been called the Ark depending on the story. I also accept the Rodimus theory because he left Cybertron early in the civil war in the Unicron Trilogy. Alpha Trion and Vector Prime also remain possibilities in my mind, though Sentinal is my front runner.

I'm not saying you are wrong, we all might be wrong, and most of us will be wrong. I'm simply trying to understand how you are arriving at your conclusion that because Shockwave is rumored to be the big baddie in DotM that means the ship that might be the/an Ark (how many Arks were in the Marvel comic run, and other more recent comic runs?) contains the Dinobots? Why would Dinobots be on the moon? In the G1 cartoon they were created on Earth. In the comics unless I'm mistaken they took on dinosaur forms to protect the Ark while the Autobots were in stasis. In this case, the ship is on the moon, so why would the robots have prehistoric animal forms?

Finally, why do you think the Mustached-bot is Snarl? I would think Grimlock before any other Dinobot. But I just don't see the connection to begin with.

From what I've read and seen, I don't see Bay using the Dinobots unless he's planning on telling a story in prehistoric times or digging them out of a glacier or tar pit and reactivating them. Of course, then I have to ask why they were on Earth? And this leads me back to the moon question: Why would Dinobots be on the moon?

I'd love to see Dinobots, and I'd love to see a Dinobot combiner, but I don't see any connection to either with the ship on the moon, and nothing in this first trailer or the early toy listings lead me to believe we will see any Dinobots. But that's this movie. Maybe the next director will do something with Dinobots, and that would be very cool.

Ah. Thank you for the plot note. Unfortunately I have only read a few Marvel comics, so the only things that stand out to me are the difference I've learned via reading character wiki threads or discussions with those who read the line.

I guess that's why sambotroy is seeing a movie Dinobot connection to Shockwave. As my source is the cartoon, outside of a trip to Cybertron the Dinobots had almost no interaction with the Decepticon general. I thought I remembered something about the Dinobots fighting off some decepticons in the comic story past, but that they fought the Insecticons. For me, the Dinobots' nemesis was Devastator. The big monster was also Omega Supreme's primary enemy in that line. Of course, those Dinobots did not combine.

I find it unfortunate that RotF revealed a link to the past, introduced an ancient Prime, an old Seeker, and Devastator, but failed to provide at least one of Devastator's enemies, in this case the Dinobots as the whole past thing and ancient Autobots and Decepticons on Earth could have provided Bay and his writers (lousy strike which I do accept as an excuse for a weak plot, not plot holes) with the rational they required to have active Transformers that mimicked extinct animals. How cool would it have been if instead of a just a tomb of dead Primes protecting the Matrix Sam and his team woke up Grimlock and convinced the ancient Prime loyalist to stand with the current Autobots and fight Devastator (instead of Simmons ordering the rail gun strike)?

Oh well, missed opportunities happen all the time. I still enjoy the movie, and maybe I won't have to wait too much longer to see something like that happen in a later film. I mean, what's another 25 years anyway?

Truth be told I dont see how the Dinobots [as Dinosaurs] can really fit into this universe.

Its already been established, in both films, that the TF's only came to Earth relatively recent in Earth history.Not even the 4 million years ago from the G1 toon.

And even if, there werent any Dino's around 4 million years ago, further more, I believe that the 5 Dinosaurs that served as models for the dinobots did not inhabit the Earth at the same time.

So,the way I see it, we would get a set of Dinobots that in no way match their G1 counterparts, set in a era well before the TF's were said to have come to Earth in any continuity.

Fanboys will be in an uproar.

I used to think it was Primus, now I think it's Alpha Trion.

Who remembers Sam's freakout in class in Revenge of the Fallen? Somewhere in that gibberish he mentioned "The Sentinel Prime expedition" (to the moon?) several decades earlier Sentinel Prime is discovered by Neil Armstrong inside the Ark. The Ark's being there can only suggest they crash landed on an exploration mission.

Coincedence? I think not!

Yeah. Don't get me wrong, I liked TFA Sentinel's Design, but it was exactly that personality...

This isn't a step up to the challenge, just a go-over:

It's an old bot almost definitely linked to the Ark expedition storyline, which is almost definitely the Sentinel Prime expedition. To feature in the Dotm trailer, he's expected to be someone we will recognise iconically later, since we can't right now without a debate.

We're pretty sure it's someone of massive importance, and have boiled it all down to Sentinel Prime, since he's kitted out with a Prime symbol.

HOWEVER he is so far not (known to be) colored to match the known Sentinel Altmode, which is red and gray. He is instead Gold (and silver?), which has led to speculation about Silverbolt amongst others.

Objective: Has anybody seen a Prime symbol on the red firetruck?

Objective: Has anybody seen a Prime symbol on optimus Prime?

Technical note: Who and where the hell is Silverbolt?

Looking for a pattern: The last Movieverse Transformer stranded on a spaceship whilst active in the storyline was the fallen.
(Mustachion counts as active in the storyline once seen coming on line in the trailer. Sentinel Prime counts as active once mentioned by Sam in Rotf).

I would dare to speculate that any incoming bot with Dreadlocks is intended to count as a "sailor analog" (can be corsair, buccaneer or other variant) and is therefore propably attatched to a crew.Factions might come from different ships or the same ship (can be prisoners).
However: The trailer doesn't show bots with dreadlocks amongst the Moon-Dead. If anything, their features are purely Movieverse Autobot.

Mustachion can still be a 'higher' Commander/Lord/Prime to Sentinel.

Can we assume Cue/Wheeljack and the wreckers arrived with him/are linked to his crew?

Edit: Looking for a pattern: The last expedition was the Witwicky expedition, which got stranded, discovered something important (megzy), botched something important (disturbed Megzy), generated an artefact (the glasses) and created a link to the discovery and the artefact via a descendant (Sam).

(This ignores Decepticon expeditions to find either Megz or the all-cube, which are treated as intended to fail until the opening of TF1).

I think he means if anyone still claims that this is either Ultra Magnus or Alpha Trion and NOT Sentinel Prime, he'll go crazy. Especially since it's almost certain now that this is Sentinel.
