With IDW's current focus on the Stunticons, I got to thinking after the Bruticus upgrades FansProject should do a complete Menasor. They've already shown their planning a combiner of their own (the Ice Age themed Glacialbot, an original creation) so Menasor may be on the concept list already.

The only rub would be the price. While they've always undershot our estimates, based on the price of Munitioneer & Explorer and the Defender (since the core bot in a combiner is basically a triplechanger), we'd be looking at $250-$300 for it. Which is how much they'll probably be asking for Glacialbot anyway and that wouldn't sell nearly as well as Menasor would!

What do you think?

I think my limit is $150. So if it was super badass and cost that much, I could scrounge for it. But otherwise, Menasor's not really my thing, and I just can't be dropping stacks on these all the time.

As much as I like what they've done with the Energon combiners, I just couldn't buy this. Too much for what it is.

In a word, YES.

some of the things that Hasbro has tried to pass as Menasor has made me more cautious than a previous incarnation, but judging by their existing constructs I would do everything in my power to acquire a Stunticon set made by them.

If they made a set of add-ons that could convert some delux vehicles into Menasaur I'd buy it. With so many TFs out there, there've gotta be some that'd work.

The Classics line offered a good few canidates:
Sideswipe/Sunstreaker as Breakdown
Mirage as Dragstrip(Has saw that one)
Rodimus as Wildrider(TT saw that one)

the 350z mold used for Silverstreak and others could make a passable Dead End, but I'd happily pay for an original mold.

Motormaster is the tricky one. I've seen a custom use Inferno, and OP is always viable.

The trouble with using pre-existing noncombiner toys is that they'd have to make parts that connect to where nothing was made to connect.

That's exactly why I posted this topic. I was going through my half finished customs and there are a rediculous amount of barely started and half done combiner limbs! I have a finished Swindle from E Strongarm that only needed a combiner port and a totally ruined E Barricade that was supposed to be Motormaster.

I would've probably saved money on a FansProject version!

So yeah, I'd buy pretty much anything Fans Project related, especially complete toys! And if they actually did a full on combiner like Menasor or even their own Glacialbot, I'm sure that the price won't be redonk. I'm sure they've been saving up some back $$ so that their future larger projects won't cost the consumer so much. My guess at a full gestalt would run $150-$200. Which is still in my range for a figure like that. Especially if Fans Project made it. :D

I would not buy it. As much as I would love to have the Stunticons, I couldn't justify what they would charge for it. My guess is that a full gestalt would cost around $300. That is out of my price range.

Wasn't there an old Gobots combiner suit which could fasten onto any sort of Gobots of a certain size to make them combine? If there was a Menasaur version of that I'd get it.

Im sure it would be awesome if but the pricepoint would be too high for me. I still dont have a full set of G1's stunticons. I sure would love to drool at it if they ever made one. I think FansProject have had a good track record with making stuff look G1ish without making work like a G1 toy(they always seem to think posability and I like that).

Scratch-built or not, let's cut it with the Combiner crap.

Give me solid molds for non-combining characters that deserve it. One solid mold that blows me out of the water and makes me want to pull the wallet out of my pocket. Let's go the Defender route, I'm tired of this add-on nonsense. It's all these 3rd parties do. They've followed the success that FP has and simply copycatted most of it.

FansProject needs to take the lead. If they keep making add-ons they are going nowhere fast. From my point of view I want them to rival Hasbro in a friendly way. If they keep making add-ons for Hasbro figures then they will be viewed as inferior. They need to be the catalyst to make Hasbro pick up some G1-rendition slack. There's so many characters that they could do that everyone would like. Y'know. Like Blurr. :KREMZEEK: :KREMZEEK:

Hmm, some good points there Blurrz, but I worry they'd be stepping too much on Hasbro's toes if they decided to do mostly complete figures. At least with add-ons, they could argue it's helping Hasbro's sales.

You are ignoring the fact that add-on kits don't cut into Hasbro's profits. If anything they would make demand for some figures be higher, since they are based on Hasbro molds. You don't really run into copyright issues either.

Lets see what the fallout from Defender and the Swindle/Blast Off molds is. That will be the telling point. As FP pushes things, at SOME point Hasbro is going to hammer them down hard. I would rather they make addon's forever then try to get too gutsy and get shut down entirely.

I didn't even own the Energon Bruticus Maximus mold until Fansprojects announced the upgrades for it. Hasbro's done 3 Springers in as many years and none of them were as good as theirs is going to be. As long as they stay away from any big name characters Hasbro treads out, I don't think they'll get any grief.
