Background:
The firstborn son of a thief father and a prankster mother, Ryxter never had a chance for what most folks would term a normal life as an ordinary citizen. But that’s okay, ‘cause in his mind, normal and ordinary are two of the most boring things in the worlds and ain’t worth the stupidity. At least this way, he reasons, he can do something to the stupid people, and usually avoid any problems from it.
But it all came crashing down on his head, the day he played a harsher prank on his dad’s Rogue, the Ruler of the Thieves’ Guild for their galaxy. She decided that, as punishment for not keeping his son in line, his dad would be exiled from their guild–and with it, her galaxy. Ryxter hasn’t seen his dad since. His mother blames him for what happened, and every day since, her so-called ‘pranks’ on him have grown harsher and harsher.
He finally ‘ran away’ when he was twelve, two years after this. Once his mom had dropped a bowling ball on his head, he knew better than to go through his bedroom door, but when he came in the window, a thick bottle fell on his head. His face and upper torso burning from the strong acid it had contained, he raced down to the kitchen and filled a bucket to rinse some of it off–or tried to, anyways. His mother had anticipated his reaction, and had turned off the water to the house, then locked all the doors and windows–including his own, after he’d raced down the stairs. He had to break through three windows to get out, and by that time, he was in so much pain that he could barely move. He remembered a stream that ran a few yards from the house, and somehow managed to crawl over to it. His mother was waiting there for him, eyes burning with hatred. The stream was little more than a trickle, since she was standing in it, and what little there was, was muddied and no good for rinsing, though he didn’t see that until he was almost in it. She grabbed him roughly by his burning shoulders and threw him at her feet in the stream. Then she walked away, leaving him to die.
An older mech found him there, some weeks later. He knew a little healing, and cleaned Ryxter up some as he took him to the nearest hospital, twelve miles away. It was run by Decepticons, but the medics there were neutrals, willing to treat anyone who came inside their doors. It was here that he met Darven, who convinced him to join the Decepticons. It didn’t take much doing, seeing as his mother was an Autobot, or at least claimed to be one. Within a month of his release from the hospital, Darven had introduced him to his boss, Sari, and Ryxter had proven himself a trustworthy hand in the lab–partly because he now has a very healthy respect for the chemicals involved. When Sari was given the task of reprogramming the Oblivion Lantern sisters not four months after their meeting, Ryxter was the second mech she chose, right after her right-hand mech, Darven. Sari gave Davine’s reprogramming to Ryxter, in the hopes that his talents as a thief would show up in the girl–which hopes were realized. Also, an odd talent showed up in the twelve-year-old that hadn’t been there before he began–her control of shadows. None of the reprogrammers have any idea why, except perhaps Ryxter himself, and don’t bother asking him: being born without a voice chip, he can’t answer you.
Ryxter knows full well that Sari hated having to do children instead of Autobot prisoners, though she never acted like it when she thought she was being watched. Truth be told, he agrees with her, and wonders how what he was ordered to do to Davine is any better than the things his mother did to him after his dad was banished. So he, like Sari, tried his best to reprogram his girl gently, and is almost certain that’s how Sari did hers, though he’ll never tell.
Bio:
These days, Ryxter is following Davine around, as his fellow reprogrammers follow their girls. He still enjoys a good prank now and then, but has almost lost his taste for it, since he got his love for pranks from his mother and despises the thought of being like her in any way. He refuses to explain to the others what happened, though of course Darven knew some of it and told Sari what little he knew. Sari knows some sign language, so he was able to explain to her about never having a voice chip; she explained it to the others. He hopes one day to repay his mother for what she’s done to him, and to find his dad. He fears that by the time he finds his dad again, his mother will have turned him against him. He doesn’t think he could live with his dad hating him, too–especially if he shows it by burning him with acid, like his mother did.
