When the Decepticons attacked the shuttle he was on inbound for Autobot City, the crew was believed to have been killed before the initial attack on the city. Ratchet did survive but had to have a new body built. He had gone into a formal retirement but now with a new war and the need for bots that can handle their own, he is ready
