The official BotCon 2012 page has updated with the reveal of the "Heroic Decepticon" Soundwave. This is the third figure revealed behind Classics Gigatron and the Evil Autobot Tracks in the "Invasion" box set.

Botcon has confirmed via twitter what many have hoped for since seeing the teaser art for this figure. There will be a headband available for sale in the club store at Botcon. They go on to say that there was no way to mold the headband onto the head to do it justice. Also confirmed via twitter that there have been tweaks to the head mold so Soundwave can look straight ahead. Please enjoy the pics mirrored below or at the Botcon 2012 website.

Well, the headband is good news I guess. Hopefully they won't charge an arm and a leg.

Oh well, I guess I'll stick with Music Label white Soundwave

The head looks terrible. So far, there isn't a toy that has been revealed that is "must have" IMO.

Weird that a person like me, who is not a fan of movie toys, would (and have) purchased RotF/DotM deluxes that were leagues better then this.

I'm kinda pissed they didn't reveal Treadshot, as he's been screwing with our brains lately, while Soundwave here was obvious.

I actually like all the molds. Gogatron's design kinda reminds me of the shape of the human Giga, I need a Road Rage, and here, the large head gives him a bigger "rocker" look. I don't like the bumper stickers too much though.

OMG, Epic Fail. When is the Club going to start listening to the real collectors and not the few nerds that work for them(and I know a few from back in the early to mid 90's)that think they rule the roost on knowing ALL things Transformers?? Seriously these toys are not that great this year. Not to mention the Con is backed by Hasbro, we need actual new molds or at least 1 new mold per show. The laziness involved is disgusting. And Ive bought all the sets since there 1st year in, and now when times are tough economically here in the states these jerkoffs are charging $340 to MEMBERS just for the box set alone!!! And that doesnt include the near $30 they will charge to ship it. Which means this set will run close to $400 even IF your a member!! IDK, I guess Im just pissed off but its still rape. They are raping us on these every year. Hell just to get the 3 bagged sets and the lone bagged toy every year runs you another $350-600 on Ebay after the Con. and thats if you get a decent deal.

And the after market of these "Shattered Glass" toys blows!!! Maybe if Hasbro was cool enough to make some characters and throw them in a Universe line it would help the value of these immensely. But who am I kidding its a very good idea, so Hasbro wont do it! Screw the collector right??

I don't think this is a realistic expectation. A new mold is a bit much.

You can't really blame the BotCon d00ds or Hasbro for how much people charge on Ebay.

Terrible! Simply atrocious! They do know that Soundwave's head was the basis for the Decepticon logo right? I mean, that head looks more like Optimus Prime than it does Soundwave! How could the artist get it so right, but the actual mold get it so wrong? Not only that, but it's basically just Ratchet with his red parts molded in blue and with a crappy Not-Soundwave head. Anyone with even limited customizing experience could easily make a better SG Soundwave. Just take a Universe Ratchet figure, paint all his red bits blue, pop the head off a music label or WFC Soundwave figure and replace the Ratchet head with it. Done.

And what's with the logo on the side? Looks like one of the guys from Metalocalypse.

And they're making you BUY the headband? Seriously?! They can't just throw in a little strip of fabric for free? No, they have to extort even more money from collectors in order to "complete" their SG Soundwave?! What kind of fucking bullshit is that? :-x

Also Look at 3rd parties, KO companies etc. That wont fly with me Ive been collecting since the 80's and have been around the block collecting and selling toys for years.

The point is that even at the Con, the toys are seriously OVERPRICED.

Actually, at the end of every convention, they give attendees a sheet for them to write mold/character suggestions. So this is already done.

Hasbro doesn't back the show. FunPub handles all costs and Hasbro attends as guests. The only way Hasbro affects the figures is by saying which molds are available. I'm surprised that you think that engineering, designing, casting and finishing a mold is inexpensive and affordable to FunPub. Bottom line: it is not. The club charges high double-digits for its "Club Exclusive" figures which usually only feature a new head mold. But you seem set in your opinion of reality so I don't really think I could persuade you.

What is and isn't opverpriced varies depending on who you talk to. IMO are they overpriced at the con? Not really. Are they overpriced on ebay? Usually yeah. If you can't afford it though, don't buy it.

Ah, well that's kinda cool.

Still doesn't make up for the crappy head mold or the "you have to BUY the headband" bullshit. Honestly, if this was any other company, they'd get sued for false advertizing if they tried to pull that. It's like if you bought a car and the dealership was like, "Oh you wanted windows in your car? Ah, well, that's extra. Tires? That's extra too. Engine? Yep, that's extra too! What does the car come with? See here you get this nice box with a blank key in it. But if you want the key cut, that's extra." I like it more than I thought it would. The head looks a bit doofy, especially when compared to character art. It's not the best Botcon figure, but it's the best looking one so far this year. I have SG Ravage, so I feel almost obligated to get SG Soundwave.

I don't think that is an apt analogy. It seems like a lot of people thought the head band was stupid, so why up the production cost and make everyone get one......let those that want it pay the little extra to get it. I doubt it will cost much. It is not the equivalent of a car without an engine. :)

My point is they shouldn't make you PAY extra for teeny tiny little headband. The box set already costs $340, making it the most expensive BotCon box set to date. How much could that headband cost? Even as an add-on? $1? Why not just throw that in the box set at no charge? Put it with the instructions and tech specs and OTHER accessories. It was a good idea to make the headband a separate piece. It was a bad PR move for FunPub to make their customers have to PAY extra for it. Now what's going to happen with this figure on the secondary market? Is Soundwave, not to mention the whole box set, going to be more valuable with the add-on headband? Or are the people who bought the headband to go with Soundwave going to loose money when they try and sell him off online?

A little more info about the headband. This is from BotCon's twitter. It is not fabric, it is molded. It is made in America. Apparently it was more cost effective to have this molded in America and sold seperately than to have it molded in China and included in the boxset.

personally,I don't like this botcon recolored character. it's ugly colored & because i also dis-like soundwave toys that don't turn into radio type devices.

It's probably a reference to Titanium Soundwave's massive... storage. Though since SG Soundwave shares a mold with 'bot who likes his guns big and a party doctor; maybe minivan/suv characters have a lot of need for junk storage?

The robot mode looks a bit cheap

what i would have liked to have seen is his mouth guard painted to break it up from the rest of the body,

New hands half gripped to hold 2 weopons,

weopons i would have liked him to have his blaster, shoulder cannon and a sword( with that head band he looks like he needs a sword).

Thats why soundwave is a bad guy he supposed to look badass he looks more like a hippy ultra magnus rip off.

But i do think the van looks much better than the Ratchet and ironhide deco.
