That is a very nice looking guy. Those colors hide his connection to Dead End very well and the head is really nice... Must get it.

Wow, to say Streetwise is a mere remold is a huge misnomer. Besides the thighs and the core of the figure, not a single thing on him is the same as Deadend. I wish Blades had received a similar treatment. From the looks of it, First Aid will be done the same way with just the core being the same as Offroad. Can't wait for the Protectobots.

Looking good. I think that enough mods have been done to the Protectobots to distinguish them from previous mold uses.

Really like this guy! Dead End is already my favorite CW figure in general though. I'll probably grab a Streetwise if I see him in a store (someday), but I'll stick with keeping First Aid on preorder, he looks a bit nicer than Offroad to me. First Aid I'm excited to see in hand pictures for! :BOT:

What a pleasant surprise that these once vanilla characters have been upgraded so cleverly. Their colors are subtle yet appealing and fit like a glove. Hasbro's figured out how to cram great articulation onto smaller figures and their molds look great in both modes. They can't all be perfect but I'm thinking 2015 is the year that sets a new precedent for both quality Transformers toys and satisfying fandom.

Blast Off has a slightly different face plate, as does Vortex. My biggest concern is Vortex being a straight repaint of AB, but after studying his head the visor is also different, so we hopefully we'll get new heads for both figures.

I hope Vortex gets remolded with a front mounted 50 caliber gun. Like the original.

I hope so too. It would be easy to remold one of the two halves of the copter front to include the gun sticking out of the front. That would also further distinguish the helicopter from AB and Blades as a simple repaint is the easy way out.

Looking at Streetwise, Blades really got the short end of the stick by not getting remolded forearms without rockets. Based on that Vortex better get his front mounted gun.

Streetwise looks really good.

I wonder if this is the version they'll repaint into Prowl as opposed to the Dead End version. Or will they do a third reshelling.

Yes, yes I have sir.
I rejoice every day.

Also very cool that Deadend still is depressed in Combiner Wars. I love that character in the cartoon. "We're all food for rust."

I love Motormaster, his G1 figure had a completely different face than the cartoon. This one is so cool, angry but still sharp.

I also get the feeling that Rook will not get a lot of flak since his replacement has been downgraded to a legends for chest mounting.

it's interesting how the back of package combination guides never mention the 6th/Legends members, as if they're purely optional./

You'd think Hasbro would capitalise and try to cross-sell?

Are they supposed to be water missiles or something? Sure, the original figure had canons, but they were removable and you could rationalize them as extinguishers, not so probable with missiles. Would have been better if they did something like Rook and put canon's on the sides of his arms in place of the missiles. I also hate that he's almost entirely red in copter mode, I'm not sure why Hasbro started that trend with their repaints. Still better than the Evac Squad Fly-Up colors. I think this mold is going to look fine as Vortex, with or without AB's head.

On a side note: why are there so many people trying to tell us what figures we do and do not want? I'll decide what figures I like thank you very much.

Cyclonus' team should be AB, Off Road, and Rook at least along with Viper.

Emerje

To be fair, Blades is to my recollection pretty vicious and trigger happy, so missile pods seem to fit. Sure he's a Protectobot, but he's easily the most violent of them.

Robots in "Disguise" indeed...

Bingo! Despite his nature he shouldn't be a rescue chopper that can rain death. The canons were a better fit since they could have a dual purpose, but it's hard to see missiles as anything but what they are. At the very least the figure has two more weapons, he really doesn't need the missiles.
When has Blades ever taken the "robots in disguise" concept to heart? By the time the Protectobots came along in the Sunbow cartoon, everyone on Earth already knew about the Autobots (save for those three high school twits, for some reason). Their altmodes never played any functional role in the Marvel G1/G2 comics. They never got Earth modes in Dreamwave G1. And in IDW G1, neither Blades nor First Aid have ever been shown on Earth at all.

After reading Off Road's bio a couple of times, it sure feels like a set up to me. The Stunticons are uneasy and weirded out about his colors and disposition... thats because he's IRONHIDE GONE UNDERCOVER!

I notice that too. Its like they aren't even given the kids who may buy these a reason to spend more money and complete the set. Also in this case poor Groove has been kicked off the team and regulated to the bench.

Hasbro Takara have done a great job with these. some make better arms vs legs and vice thier listed position.

Streetwise looks great. I'm glad I didn't go with TFC this time. Their Streetwise looks like Drift too much. I'm also confident we will get a limb sized G1 style Groove eventually from somebody. If Hasfensor looks G1 (cartoon accurate) enough in hand, I might pass on maketoys Guardia too. It's about time Hasbro started getting combiners right. Sure the stock hands and feet suck, but replacement options are coming.

Also, here's a little eye candy... ;)

yO know, for a while I've been telling myself that I wouldn't get anymore combiners than I really really wanted: Menasor, Bruticus, Devastator, and maybe Computron and Abominus. I mean, that's a lot already.

Superion still doesn't appeal to me much, as (a) the Arialbots aren't that nostalgic to me, (b) I don't care for the majority of the individual figures, and (c) you can't do much to mess with the leg modes because of how their transformations work.

And while Defensor also has almost zero nostalgic effect for me, I really really like the individual figures, and I love First Aid and Streetwise as characters. And I wish IDW would put out a TPB of the G2 comic so I could learn to love Blades for more than his face makes me already.

So I guess I don't want Defensor, but I want the figures.

I'm glad to see Streetwise is a remould of the best of the Stunticons. Oh Deadend is so perfect I could just swoon. I think I went a bit off track there but the Protectobots have got me very excited as to what comes next.

Blades looks angry and Constipated. Maybe he is angry because he is constipated.

Since Dragstrip came with a sword, I keep wishing he could hold his foot/hand like a shield. I'm a sucker for sword and shield over blaster any day.

Well, Offroad came through on that wish.

Now that I have had a chance to really give these wave 2 guys a good play, I gotta say, they are AWESOME!
Air Raid is kinda old news, but I'm happy to have a full squad of Aerialbots. His jet mode looks great. The stunticon punks are really doin' it for me though. Breakdown is fantastic. Offroad really works for me too. I think Dragstrip is still my fav though. Something about the puffy pirate shirt with it's billowing sleeves, and the bell bottoms. Put a head band on him and I swear he'd be a dead ringer for Jimi Hendrix.

Amazon has the whole wave of Protectobot Limbs and Voyager Hotspot up for Pre-Order now at $18.99 and $26.99 respectively. No sign of the next wave of legends figures yet. I ordered all the Protectobots. I like the retool use here and everything is new or heavy retooled except for Blades' head/paint only. I'm looking forward to Defensor now more than I did with Menasor although Menasor and Superion look awesome side by side. Menasor has a brooding presence I didn't expect until he was in hand. Menasor certainly has a bulky, intimidating presence, which is odd because to me he's the fastest Con combiner (head canon).

Because of his transformation, Superion is supremely sleek and agile looking.

Both are pretty cool and I'm excited for more teams.

Oh yeah, there here. They arrived about a day after everyone else's. I dig 'em, except I'm disappointed in Breadown; he was always my favorite Stunticon, probably because he had the most fiction and toys, but he has the worst combiner figure IMO. He looks like a white oompa loompa, with big old legs, skinny arms, a squat physique and derpy face. I also hate his transformation, and his stupid bulky backpack.

I'm Really just kinda miffed that I hate my favorite Stunticon, know what I mean?

No, I've got the same problem, which is a shame since it feels wrong having him as anything but an arm.

Then again, my Motormaster's Menasor shoulders pop loose easy too, so an arm is but one of its issues.

Ya. The Bot legs DON'T stay pegged on mine either. And his hips are real loosey goosey.

Oh, well. This at least saves me from trying to buy another one. Time to work on some dis-assembly and some of the usual fixes....

Fellow Seibertronian Reluctantyouth has informed us that most of Combiner Wars Wave 3 is now on pre-order at Amazon.com (sold and shipped by Amazon). This includes Hotspot (26.99$) and all the Defensor limbs (18.99$ each) as well as Voyager Cyclonus (26.99$) and Leader Thundercracker (46.99$). The only ones missing from wave three are the legends class figures.

The release date for these is June 15th.
