'Leaked from Cybertron' Images of Power of the Primes Grimlock and Volcanicus

Posted by Va'al May 6, 2018 at 2:51am CDT 17,187 views
We've already seen a number of the 'Leaked from Cybertron' mini clips, showing a quick carousel of images for figures from the line - usually schematics, prototypes and the final stock image of the toy - including the whole collection of Dinobots from the first waves: Swoop, Snarl, Sludge, Slash (plus Studio Series Blackout and Grimlock).

But today we bring you the core element of new Dinobot combiner Volcanicus, and the figure doing the crunches: Power of the Primes voyager Grimlock! Check out the three rotating images below, and join the discussion in the Energon Pub - have you formed the new gestalt yet? Is there anything else you'd like to see from the line?

More Bots. More News. More Awesome.

Looking at the concept sketches, and the final version, my first thought is, 'What went wrong?' The forelegs and the toe claws looked SO much better in concept. The final version has those dinky little stubs on the toes, and them gargantuan thighs. I know sacrifices had to be made for a gestalt mode, but it still feels like they phoned it in.

will the retailer stores skip waves like they did last year in favor of bayformer toys? because I have never seen wave 2 of the deluxes of transformers power of the prime toys. last year never saw twin twist, overlord, misfire, etc. I barely saw sixshot and trypticon. distribution shouldn't be this bad but unfortunately it is. i'm wondering if i'll ever see either sludge and snarl on the shelves?

If it hasn't already been discussed, Amazon US has a listing up for Counterpunch: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077ZBCPDV?tag=seibertron07-20&
While Amazon Canada has a listing for Repugnus: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0785P78QD?tag=seibertron0b-20&

Found a Hun-Gurr and Elita-1 at the local Wal-Mart. Didn't buy either for now but it's good to see they have indeed appeared at retail.

Yeah, we've debated just what these figures will actually be earlier this year when they were listed on other stores. They're expected to be part of May Mayhem, but Hasbro is being ridiculously silent on that. I'm still hoping Repugnus is a Titan Return mold to go with the other two Monsterbots, but not everyone is convinced.

When does the Mayhem usually start? Been refreshing the listings every day just to see when they go live. I've missed the last couple years and want a jump for this year...

Typically the end of the month, but Hasbro usually announces them in late March/early April so we're a little clueless. I can't remember if we've actually seen proof of May Mayhem happening this year or if we just assumed it is because of all the exclusives being listed around the same time. 2016 was a mess with the bulk of the Grooves coming in October, but 2015 wasn't terribly hard to get in the first week if you shopped around. They're limited and online-only, but they're not exclusive, they're sold at most retailers that sell Transformers.

Retailers did not skip generations toys in favour of movie toys. In fact, every single titans return toy was found in the US, albeit some in very small quantities. However, some movie toys have never ever been found in the US. To this day all US retailers have skipped the final wave of transformers the last night deluxe toys and legion class toys. So it is movie toys that got a bigger shaft than the generations toys.

It's either :

There are bands of scalpers gobbling up all the "we want figs" or Hb did another clusterfrack in distribution!

Or he's just another figure that's not selling as well as his wavemates - those happen all the time (Twinferno is probably a good recent example). I don't think there's really any way Hasbro could've reasonably packed less of him per case than they were already doing, and still actually distributed the toy.

Now as for whether it was a good call putting him in Wave 1 - the wave that almost certainly every store will get in large amounts - that's definitely up for debate, but I don't think this is exactly a distribution disaster on par with TLK or anything like that.

Nope! This happened already when Takara miscalculated the popularity of a figure and over manufactured.

1. 2001/2002 Godginrai gift set.
2. 2005 Starconvoy (though this one would have been remedied if Grandus and Skygarry was also released to complete the Battlestars)
3. TFC Stepper

Gg was one of the popular me want ones for collectors. Same with Starconvoy. Also, Stepper.

So Starscream (Not popular? Really?) Compared to Twinferno, he's not even close to holding Starscream's boot straps! Too bad though (Elita is a better one of the mold though)

Thanks to fellow Seibertronian Munkky, we have additional confirmation of two potential Transformers Power of the Primes exclusives found on online retailer Amazon - one for the Canadian site, one for the US one: Repugnus, and Counterpunch respectively.

The figures have been discussed previously, as Seibertronian Emerje points out below, as they appeared on other retailers as listings, but the Amazon appearance may be giving more of a solid base to the idea of either May Mayhem or San Diego Comic Con (or even New York Comic Con) bringing two new molds to the fray. We have no images or specific descriptions yet either, so stay tuned to find out more!

Y.E.S it's about time these two got new full figure toys! Counterpunch especially Repugnus is Cool but Counterpunch is where it's at man! He better be a new Punch/Counterpunch with two new robot modes with a relatively simple conversion from one to the other

I've got a feeling you may be disappointed with counterpunch

All you need is that TFCC Punch/Counterpunch. That sunstreaker mold pulls it off so well who needs a new figure? Gimmie a repugnus please. And as much as I hate the idea, make him a stinking headmaster to make the trio on the same page.

No, that's all you needed. I've never been all that psyched with that Sunstreaker mold. Sunstreaker, Sideswipe and Redlert could all use a decent new mold IMO. So I'm not about to pay some ridiculous price for a TFCC version or Counterpunch on eBAY. So here's to hopes that this new Counterpunch looks better and cheaper if the rumor is even true.

That Repugnus character has always been Meh to me. So if I do buy a new one it'll only be based off impulse.

I have a suspicion that Counterpunch may be another case of Timelines/Classics Thundercracker. He'll just be TFCC CW Counterpunch with a slightly adjusted deco and maybe new accessory to tie into the PotP line. Of course, I hope I'm wrong and we get something new.

He's been in the Marvel G1 comics, the BotCon Classics comics, Regeneration One, parts of IDW G1, and a few minor things.

In fact, he was the longest-running host of the Marvel UK letters pages, from issues 184 to 299, a whopping 116 issues, with Grimlock being second only to him, having hosted the letters pages from 75 to 182 (108 issues). During his tenure of "Dread Tidings", Dreadwind would refer to humans as "humes", made the first indirect reference in the West to Super-God Masterforce airing in Malaysia, and even starred in his own Christmas text story that was a parody of A Christmas Carol.
they were fun to watch on masterforce
That was Buster, not Dreadwind.

True, but wasn't he referred to as Dreadwind in the Omni Productions English dub?

I hope Emerge is right and Repugnus is from a Titans Return mold. Would go great with the other 2 for sure.

I'm also hoping for the best with Punch/Counterpunch. Heres to having my fingers double-crossed......

You mean the dub that no sane person should take at face value? Which also called every human character by the robot names of their Hasbro toy counterparts (e.g. - Ginrai was a human named "Optimus Prime", so Buster was a human named "Dreadwind")? ;)

Ah ha! I see what you did there. ;)
I'm sure Counterpunch will double cross more than your fingers.

I'm hoping Repugnus is a TR mold too. I'd think they would retool the same base mold used for Twinferno and Grotusque. I'd be fine with that.
The only other logicall option I could see is a retool of Ripper Snapper. That would be ok, but I'd prefer the TR option.
