The purpose to be more like a new take on G1. They use similar looks, but newer styles, if that answers your question

... but goddammit, I wish this is how he looked in the movies. It's such a cool design; it adds realism to the base idea and concept while adding a lot of new and streamlined elements without deviating too far from it. You can look at it and easily see Optimus Prime but also feel something very new and different about it.

Higher end collectors get their hands on these.

I am so sick of these super high quality Statues coming out. I mean if Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece lines have taught us anything, it is that you can have statue quality looks, and still have playability and pose ability all in one, without the need for a high priced "breakable" statue. I mean, Resin is not a suitable alternative to straight plastic, as Resin can crumble and deteriorate over time, much more so then a good quality plastic..
Now don't get me wrong, I love the look and the design, and I do agree partly with some that the Movie Transformers live action could have looked like this, but Then again, the Bayformers Optimus Prime has grown on me, along with the fact that Peter Cullen was the voice, and to me, if Peter puts his name and talent to it, then it's Optimus For me..
Anyhow, I would rather have this as a full formed, plastic and diecast action figure with LED.. then pay for a static, or even if it was a poseable statue..who needs a Statue when you have Masterpiece Transformers, or some really cool action figures of them like the Ex Gokin, or the Pat Lee inspired and Dream Wave looking Ori Toy Optimus Prime.. Examples below:
and this is Definitely a Dream Wave version of Optimus, which I will get because the materials and the style will go great as a display in front of my Dream Wave Comic collection..
I know, I know, the Revoltech is much more in line with the Pat Lee works..
but I really hope they make this guy at least the scale of MP-10.. smaller like the Gokin figures would suck..
However, what gives me hope for the Gokin Optimus is that we could be seeing a cartoon accurate Megs like this below coming.. and I will want them both for display with my Transformers DVD collection..

But as far as another "Statue" goes.. No.. I don't want that.. Boring.. and With Kids, or pets.. too much money for something that will just take up space and is easily broken..

I would question this one in particular... Sure it's kinda cool looking. Like the guy on the previous page said, it would be pretty awesome if this is what the Bay movies gave us for an updated Prime. Or even if this was a transforming figure, I could see major appeal in it. But as it is, a thousand dollar statue of a design that really has no place... Other than having more money and space than you know what to do with...why would someone buy this?

I really do not know. I cannot afford these nor really have the inclination to, but who knows. Maye the high cost is because it is built in small numbers for a select few

Waste of Money IMHPOV why buy that when for the money you can get Masterpieces, or even the Wei Jiang Oversized MPP10? That figure is so much better.. but a super high end stylized Optimus Prime....?? Nah.. Pass.. Prime 1 Studios would do better to release their ultra detailed and high end sculpted figures in a Hot Toys 1/6 (12 Inch) action figures with LED light up features in Plastic and Diecast.. I would buy this with a price point of 200.00.
Or the same with their bayformers line.. But as is..
Not worth the cost. even if you're a Prime fan like myself, this is just excess, and not really worth it. I can only see this fetching a value below asking price in the future.. it's just not a figure that appeals to a large variety of masses. they could get more from their talents if they made a higher production run, with a smaller scale and full articulation.
There is a reason Hot Toys figures are so successful..

At least the EX Gokin line had the right idea, as does the upcoming (way over priced) Soap Studio sofubi stuff, but I just don't understand why the higher end stuff has to keep going off the rails. Surely there's more money to be made in making iconic versions over unique designs.

I agree about the comments regarding the "high end statues" that are very fragile. Not sure who they appeal to really. I only know one friend who collects these expensive Transformers display pieces.
I was turned off by statues 15 years ago when Hard Hero sent me a couple of the Optimus Prime statue busts they did. They sent me two, if I recall correctly. One for a contest prize on Seibertron.com, and then an artist proof for myself to say "thanks for promoting them". It was the first time a company had ever sent me a "sample" of something. Unfortunately, my excitement turned to disappointment when one of the antenna snapped off while removing the bust from the package. That was the first and only time that I have ever handled a statue collectible. I'd rather take my chances with GPS.

IIRC the Hard Hero statues were cold-cast porcelain, which is notoriously fragile. Most statues are made of PVC or something similar, which is far more substantial.

Emerje wrote:Nope, don't like it. I don't get how these companies can do amazingly true-to-the-movies versions of the Transformers, but when they do G1 they go as far outside the box as possible rather than give us the iconic versions. If I'm going to spend $1000 on an Optimus Prime statue (which I would never do anyway) it had better look like he stepped out of the G1 cartoon, not Gundam.
Agreed.. Tho, I don't mind a bit of stylization, however a true accurate plastic and diecast action figure of Optimus prime that is close to the G-1 TV show as possible is something I want, in addition to the MP-10 Hasbro Ver. I have, and the MPP10 Wei Jiang Oversized MP-10 KO I own (and Love!!) and that to me would be also acceptable.
However, as far as Gundam goes.. I would love to see an Alternative G-1 reality set after Victory (which should get a Hasbro release of the figure with a Dubbed DVD of the first season with if possible G-1 Actors Like Frank Welker and Peter Cullen and the rest who were in the Transformers Devestation Game.. now that would be awesome.. and if they release Star Saber stateside, they should do a minor repaint, with GOLD CHROME on all the yellow spots and the Chest. Like His knees would be nice.. etc..
But, on the Gundam side.. I would want a Prime unless of course he is a GUNDAM and also a TRANSFORMER.. I would love absolutely love a series with a DVD as well showing Gundam universe collides with the Transformers, and gives us a cool Japanese Anime done by Bandai in conjunction with Takara Tomy's License.. and produces a Gundam Transformers line of Model kits like this custom:

I'd buy that! they could do a story where humans and Autobots combine their technology with their gundam programs and the autobots themselves become merged with the Mecha suits and become a powerful battle machine to thwart the Decepticons invading the Space Colonies and the earth united space federation.. or what ever.. that I would buy just for the fun of building a cool Transformer Gundam.. Two of my fav things!
Transformers Meets gundam would be an awesome treat!
Emerje wrote:Same goes for Hot Toys, when I first heard they were doing an Optimus Prime my first reaction was great, their movie figures are amazing screen accurate, this'll be perfect, I might even buy one. Then it was revealed, and while basically an over detailed MP-01 it was OK, but then they had to ruin it by driving the price up with needless Starscream armor.
Totally with you there. I was like, whoa, he looks cool, I can stand him off to the side in a separate display in another room, or on a DVD shelf if I like.. then the price point hits because of stupid upgrade additions.. and It ultimately for a non-engineered transformable figure of that price point.. Nope.. Pass.. but I did love the actual Bot tho, they did a really good job.. but not worth the price.
I think that Ex Gokin figure is okay.. I haven't purchased it yet because for the price, it is way too small, and the head sculpt I am not a fan of what so ever, and in addition the chest seems way too small it should be a bit larger to give him a correct proportion, the anime wasn't the greatest, but there is a difference between 3D figures and 2D animation. My Greatest wish would be to see Wei Jiang do an upscaled KO of the Ex Gokin figure in metallic paints, but light like the colors of the anime, with some metallic flek in the paint.. which wouldn't be too bad, and a bit darker blues.. and make the scale of the Oversized KO since the Ex Gokin figures are Voyager sized, make the Optimus KO MP-10 scale, and also able to hold the MP-10 Matrix for added Fun. See my digibash below:Emerje wrote:At least the EX Gokin line had the right idea, as does the upcoming (way over priced) Soap Studio sofubi stuff

It would also be nice to see a KO upscaled Megatron to go with that Prime.. I would love a high quality animation faithful figure with articulation and diecast.. that would be good, with a limited run of characters.. just the popular ones..
But this should be done as well..

Back on Topic..

there could be a market tho very small for one of those statue pieces I suppose. I can see comic shops buying it, or a fan club, or even maybe a movie museum or fancy store or Movie themed restaurant.. but for me, I think honestly what is surprising is that this figure feels like a super upscaled detailed version of this prime, which I can find for a fraction of the cost and still have that same aesthetic feel, and posability and play are high with no stress over my bank account, and more left for my continuing hunt for Masterpiece Transformers.. Buying that statue would set my collecting back and whole 6 months.. and who knows what I will miss having to wait, or the price discounts because of such a stupid investment, when I could buy a figure very much like it, and still get that same feel, just smaller and less fragile..
To Me, this statue...

Reminds me of this...

I'd rather buy that.. Infact, I may do so now after seeing that statue, I have a better appreciation for that prime figure, and Normally I would pass, but this guy is sweet.. and less expensive and more fun!
However, If Hot Toys ever did the movie bayformers in that Prime-1 Studios quality, and that new Prime in a 1/6 scale around 200.00 each, I would buy them all!!! Especially if they do them like the Ironman figures with diecast and plastic and LEDs!! As for the statue.. No..
