Though nothing present in the translation is necessarily new or revolutionary, it could prove valuable to some still on the fence regarding whether they want to indulge in this divisive figure.
For those interested in more translations of both Masterpiece Articles and Tech Specs, Soundwaves Oblivion has translations for all figures up to MP-42.
On a related note, it has come to our attention that the Previews World Listing for MP-44 does not mention the three mini-figures included with the figure proper. It is important to make clear that all regions will receive the same version of the figure with the same accessories, as has not always been true in the past.
Did these translations help you make up your mind on whether or not you will be purchasing this mammoth-priced Masterpiece? Let us know what you think in the forums below, and stay tuned to Seibertron for all your Transformers news and reviews!

Also, we're on the third iteration of Optimus, two Rodimus figures and still no Galvatron? What's up with that!?

Good guys, especially leaders sell better than villains in Japan.

Yeah a lot of time villains don’t even get toys in Japan or they’re very few.

Transformers is a true oddity when it comes to that, for sure. Villains only get toys when they're notable, look like the hero, or are grunts.

Changed that bit so taht it makes more sense. The movie gets a ton of love from Hasbro.

Sorry, I should have prefaced that in this thread, I was referring strictly to the Masterpiece Line.
Within that context, I don't see Hasbro doing anything different to Takara regarding The Movie.
I don't see [Hasbro Exclusive] MP Springer, Arcee, Kup, Blurr, Wheelie, Wreck-Gar, Cyclonus, Armada or Scourge and the Sweeps? To date when it comes to the MP Line, I see Hasbro adhering to the same "Optimus Prime for every exhaust port" fetish that Takara is choking the rest of the lines with.

The thing with Wheelie though is he is often the same size as Spike and/or Daniel in their exo-suits. I mean what could they even charge for an MP that small on his own? That's why I think it would make sense for him to be paired up with someone bigger, as the regular human figures were.

Why cant we then simply use Legends Wheelie as a stand in? Sounds like the best MP stand in we ever had due to scale and accurate likness of both modes, making an MP Wheelie down the list in terms of priorities.

Indeed. When it comes to Movie characters for the MP line, I wouldn't be surprised if the general consensus puts Wheelie at the bottom, under Wreck-Gar..

Thanks and likewise! TM Megatron was my favourite design in Beast Wars after all.
I do have a fondness for Iguanus. Although he never appeared in the show, he was the second BW figure I got after the Gator Megatron & Bat Primal two pack. Loved the headsculpt (in contrast to Gator Megs) and so I even started to write/draw fanfic and stuff around him.
I think Transformers, more than most other media, can endear you with a visual without a word of dialogue.

Most media has that 'one' character in an ensemble series that is typically the most marketable, for whatever reason. Ryu (SF), Scorpion(MK), Wolverine(X-Men), Iron-Man (Avengers), Batman (DC, in general) etc etc They normally aren't the main character, just the popular one. Which through confirmation bias, is the face behind the most merch. Prime is That character in Transformers.

Why is that a problem, though? The character that pays the bills are always going to be the ones that are front and center and as long as people keep buying them companies will keep pushing them. That says a lot more about fans than anything.

My point was, Transformers is a series built on redefining itself. To say one specific version or toy is the definitive version is only up to the beholder.
Red Freightliner defined G1 Prime. A gorilla defined Beast Wars Prime. Cool weird space fire truck defined Cybertron Prime. A red train engine defined Transformers GO! Prime. And there will be new definitions as long as fans have money to spend.
Is Prime in a truck rut at the moment? Maybe.
Would I personally like to see Prime transform into other things? SURE! Why not?
MP-44 may be the newest "definitive" G1 cartoon accurate version of the character. Or MP-36 for Megatron, for that matter. But you can bet there will be more attempts to "get it right".
AllNew, I ask you this, is Masterpiece Optimus Primal your definitive Primal?
Posted by no-one on February 2nd, 2019 @ 4:32pm CST
Cobotron nailed it on the head and I've recently come to the same conclusion. They are going to keep on keeping on as long as the toys sell. The options are pretty straight forward though once a "definitive" figure has been released; don't buy any more figures, buy additional figures, or sell old figures and "upgrade".
When it comes to Masterpiece, MP10 is my stop point, until something I deem better comes along. MP44 looks like a marvelous bit of engineering and a part of me feels like I'm missing out, but I only have so much time, money and shelf space.
Characters getting remade, re-imagined and re-released is just part of this franchise. Every iteration of Transformers will have their time to shine with Beast Wars likely to get theirs soon. If there's one thing us G1 kiddies can say for sure, "nostalgia is one helluva drug!"

Which is surely counter-intuitive to Prime himself?
Cobotron wrote:Is Prime in a truck rut at the moment? Maybe.

This is what I'm saying. The idea seems to be that the "definitive" look/version of Optimus Prime in 2019 is his design from a cartoon from 1984.
He is not just 'a truck in a rut at the moment', the character has been trapped in it for 35 years.
Cobotron wrote:AllNew, I ask you this, is Masterpiece Optimus Primal your definitive Primal?
No. Because of the electronics. He is very good, but the electronics and what that takes away from the articulation of the figure leave it lacking. Even at a minor, nit-picking level.

Honestly, not the answer I was anticipating! But a good answer none the less.
For me, the original toy defined that character. I had the toy and fell in love with it and the idea of Beast Wars before I ever saw the show. which was disappointingly another example of the cartoon missing the mark on what I thought the character should look like. And despite it, I loved that show! But my definitive Optimus Primal is the original toy.
I just want to try to further enforce the notion that "definitive" is only in the eye of the beholder. The Transformers fandom and it's perception of Transformers is as diverse as Prime's many iterations.
Posted by AllNewSuperRobot on February 2nd, 2019 @ 4:58pm CST
As an aside, although they were never part of any show, I would love an MP twin pack of Bat Primal and Gator Megatron. They were the first of the line, so it would be a nice callback.
As far as 'definitives' go, I just wish Takara and Hasbro would at least try to embrace the entire line. How many Primes do the Blurr or Swoop fans have to sit through before they get their 'definitive' favourite??

For my part, the most redundant are the alternate Beast Mode faces. I transform them once and they stay in Bot Mode on display.

I figured one of his faces could have had the goggles. He's the star of TFTM it's kind of strange that the gimmick skipped over him.Cobotron wrote:My best guess with Hot Rod would be because they couldn't accommodate the goggles ( ) and a face swap?
Tracks probably gets the robot equivalent of Botox so he can't have facial expressions anyway.Cobotron wrote:Tracks didn't want anybody messing with his face. Too vain!
Nah, just kidding, he's a natural mechanical beauty.
I really like the gimmick, especially on Megatron. And the head-swaps representing different designs/styles.
I envy the face-gimmick of the new Bluestreak, even though I'm already happy with the original.
Speaking of which, Ironhide and Ratchet have the same faces in the cartoon -- I wish Takara had done their gimmick like Inferno and Grapple where you can switch between them. That way we'd have a smiling Ironhide.

Jetfire looks as good as I need him to (which is quite good) for only $80 and really not much worse than 3rd party version, just a little shorter. I'm not entirely convinced yet that he's the right size for MP, though he is about the same size as Star Saber so he might be OK.
UW Devastator was originally designed as a proposed MP and he fits in quite well, as do the individual Constructicons. the UW version in particular, in my opinion, looks better than any 3rd party version, especially for cartoon accuracy like modern MPs.

This SIEGE Skyfire looks virtually like a Masterpiece figure. I was wondering if they made him this way so he could fit with both SIEGE and MP. (Assuming he's tall enough.)
With regards to 3P, I'm not in any rush to complete the cast in MP form, happy enough with the average release rate and the figures I already have.
I'm not tempted to pick up 3P for the other reason that IMO the official Masterpieces are consistently better. (Even though I appreciate both.) I don't want a situation where I'm stuck with an expansive/large 3P figure while there's a way better official one out. (Hopefully the new MP-45 is a fluke and not an indication of all future releases.. even his feet have backpacks! )

First, we have MP-43 Beast Wars Megatron, showcasing only his robot mode, though there is still plenty to show and plenty of images to show it!
Next, we have an unpainted sample of the most hotly debated MP in recent memory, MP-44 Optimus Prime 3.0, showcasing its robot and vehicle mode from most any conceivable angle!
Following that we have the recently revealed MP-45 Bumblebee 2.0, showcasing both its robot mode and the small Witwicky that comes packaged with it.
Moving quickly onward is MP-20+ Wheeljack, displaying both modes, though without accessories.
Finally, we have MP-14+ Prowl, who likewise is shown in both vehicle and robot mode without any accessories.
Toy Fair 2019 will continue on throughout the weekend, so be sure to stay tuned to Seibertron.com for more news straight from the showfloor!

I was speculating in the MP-43 thread that he’d be taller than MP-36, but it’s still a behemoth to behold beside MP-44.
Since we know MP-44 will be similar to 36 height-wise, we can see that 43 over here will be a head of two taller than both. I don’t have MP Magnus though, but I assume 43 is still going to be smaller than him?
