The Japanese version of Armada is called Micron Legend. It's a minor nitpick, but given that you consistently referred to the other shows by their Japanese titles it struck me as odd.

When I went to the page, that was the title on amazon, so I went with that. :BOT:

A proper Western subtitled release of these would be pretty great- as would a redub (at least of Armada and Energon- the Cybertron dub was pretty solid). I grew up watching the Unicron Trilogy cartoons on Hasbro's website so a proper, professional re-release with subtitles (and more polished dubs) would be a major nostalgia trip for me.

Also the opportunity to see Armada with actual, finished animation would be great. IIRC the Japanese version, whilst still somewhat patchy in places, had some absolutely GORGEOUS animation done by a renowned mecha animator, especially in the final episodes.

In Japan, media has always been expensive for some reason. Music CD's are around $15-$20 even now. Single DVD's $25-$30 and Blu Ray movies are usually $50-$60!

I already have Super Link & Galaxy Force Subbed (granted the subs are not the greatest), so hopefully this release will lead to Malaysia getting some sets with better subtitles. Initially I would have been more interested in Micron Legend because the perception was that the majority of the animation had been improved, when in fact it is only a few select scenes from a few episodes. For that, I can wait until a Malay set is released w/English subs for around the $20-25 price range.

Also because these are DVD (not Blu Ray), you wont be able to play them unless you have a region free player, which are pretty cheap actually on sites like Amazon etc... But dropping nearly $200 for a set with no sub or dub isn't worth it to me.

I nearly considered by the Micron Collection DVD's but the cost of them got pretty idiotic I've even seen someone list just the DVD's without the Microns for the insane price of $400.00.

I don't know how the way they sell Media in Japan works for them - it must make long term sales hard after the gloss of the new rubs off - unless they eventually discount things.

On the flipside of that though I think perhaps Western world discounts DVD and the like to quickly meaning they sell out. and Videogames is an even crazier situation.

I've seen Borderlands the pre-sequel NEW for £5.00 I can only think that their business model it crazy if things come out for £40.00-£50.00 and a few months later they are like £10.00 If you make a new TV show, Album or Game or whatever every 1 or 2 years say then surely the sensible thing is to sell that thing at a price that is competitive over the lifetime of the product until the next one come out - instead things get clearance stupidly quickly sometimes.

That said I do wish that happened a bit more often with the toys I want to buy too.
But I'm not sure the Japanese idea of lower runs and high prices is idea either - even if some of that is compensated for by higher wages in Japan on average

Oh, I still need to watch all three of these Micron Trilogy shows subtitled (I have the subbed versions but need to get to watching them all).

Wow, you're right. That is odd.
That's the fault of Google Translate. The actual page text reads as "超ロボット生命体トランスフォーマー マイクロン伝説 DVD-SET", which transliterates into "Chō Robotto Seimeitai Toransufōmā Maikuron Densetsu DVD-SET", which in English would be "Super Robot Lifeform Transformers: Legends of the Microns DVD-SET".

For some bizarre reason, Google wants "超ロボット生命体トランスフォーマー マイクロン伝説" ("Chō Robotto Seimeitai Toransufōmā Maikuron Densetsu") to translate into "Transformers: Armada" when such is not a translation at all.

I would actually like to see Shout Factory release the whole Trilogy in one set similar to how they released G1

I really don't think the Unicron Trilogy has that level of desirability that the G1 cartoon had that enabled it to have multiple complete set releases.

After all, not even the complete set of The Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory that Shout! Factory put on their website made it to retail stores.

And such a set would most likely just be a repackaging of the individual series set discs bundled together, so nothing new would be included besides a single DVD package. Might as well just get the series sets at that point.

These appear to be the first complete series set DVD releases the Japanese versions of these shows have ever had, as their previous Japanese DVD releases were instead individual episode volumes.

The big question is, will the first disc from Legends of the Microns be a new re-authored version of those episodes. The first DVD that was released had a lot more compression done to it than the ones that followed after.

Apologies for reviving a zombie thread, but did anyone ever pick up the Micron Densetsu DVD-SET? Always wondered if they fixed the compression issue with the first disc?
