While it is pretty great to see characters like Slipstream and Acid Storm, please remember that this whole line targets kids far more than collectors. So, for instance, Acid Storm does not have knees and Slipstream does not fully transform, both due to an action feature. For the scouts below, the half transformed figure truly is the alt mode.
Ultra Shockwave, on the other hand, will probably get collectors happy since not only is he voyager sized and more articulated than the previous Cyber Battalion toy, but he also has the same design as the current rendition of IDW Shockwave.

Ditto. Still, I'll wait for reviews. Just in case of some nasty surprises. I mean, who would have suspected at the time that Warrior Starscream had no knees?

That's not the same part, the gun arm snaps off at the shoulder to attach to the top of the tank. I think the spider leg that replaces it is hidden inside his torso.

Note how the spider leg has a gray joint, but gun arm is connected to a purple shoulder joint. You can see the shoulder socket on the very back of the gun in tank mode. I think the spider leg does have a small gun hand on it to double as a spare bot arm, but the gun arm doesn't have an elbow. The Warrior class figure has a normal gun hand so the larger one probably does as well.

Thats super weird and makes the toy even more complex than I gave it credit, considering the line its in. Knowing how the warior transforms, and looking at those front spider legs, I cant see how you couldnt get a normal arm configuration.

You could simply ignore the initial warrior release and wait for this one to get it.
am glad for once we know stuff like this in advance, unlike in RID where you would buy a figure and then learn a month later that a better vesion is coming out.

These are appearing across the world right now so I took the time to take some pictures of Cyberverse Shockwave paired with various figures to give you both a sense of the aesthetic, thematic look and scale.
As is usually the case with Shockwave, his purple is very hard to correctly photograph. Even in the natual light setting I use, it completely changed hue on the images depending on the time of day. The alt mode images make him look closer to fushia, but the ones in bot mode are far closer to the actual colour. I find it important for the correct colour to come across because his deco is probably the best part.
The colour, is a nice full grape colour. Not too dark ala G1 toy but still very full, similar to my idea of the colour when watching the G1 show. Also, this may be the mainline Transformer with the most panel lining so far. There are some neatly ainted pink highlights across the arms and cannon turret, as if to give a sense of the energy coursing through him. He also has silver paint on his legs to convey the gun barrel element from the G1 design.
The sculpt is nice too, a simpler version of the evergreen designs that are currently found everywhere. They were even i the latest IDW rendition of Shockwave so you could technically use this toy for that purpose.
But would the scale work? Well, let's find out.
Maybe not the generations (though we are getting a voyager size version fo the figure later), but here he is next to two rendition of his frenemy Soudwave:
I personally think he works better with the RID Soundwave. In fact, he works great with other RID toys as if he was meant to be part of that line.
His action feature is not great but it does not get in the way in robot mode. And the blast effects are fine. Plus he has 5 mm holes on both his arms so that you can equip him with other weapons (other weapons not included).
What bugs me the most about the robot mode is that his head does not move. That really hinders toy since while his body can be posed well, you are limited in the poses where the head looks straight out. Or else the pose wont make sense.
As for vehicle mode, you can take it or leave it. It is not the best, but frankly compared to previous shockwaves, it is not bad. I actually preffer it to the Prime alt mode which didn't even hide his hands properly. And to be fair, a spider tank can work as an alt mode and there has been a long history of spider tanks in sci fi related pop culture.
I see him more like one of those European action masters that had a nice action figure like bot mode and yet still had some sort of an alt mode. And there are specific transformation steps and parts for this tank mode. It has front feet and the robot feet must convert for spider tank feet. That foot transformation is a simple flip but i find it quite elegant in changing the look.
In the end, I wont be collecting this line but I will be adding this particular figure to my RID/TAV collection, where I think he feels right at home.

Fpr a RID/TAV collection, I would suggest this warrior one so that it could be the same size as the other RID/TAV toys. The ultra would be too big to go with them.
WreckerJack wrote:That looks like a really sweet figure. I like the vibrant color plus all the details and articulation. I haven't found a Shockwave for my collection yet, so this may just be the one!
For you though, I would sugest to wait for the Ultra. Its only 5$ more and would fit better in a collection where your bigger bots (like Megs and Optimus) are voyagers.

That cyber battalion is seriously lacking though. It has no knees or bicep swivels, something even this warrior has.
Plus, his alt mode is pretty crap:

This one looks like a lean mean killing machine, and for the same price!

And this figure is basically him walking around on all fours, the G1 figure is basically him putting his arms in the air and bending over. There's no such thing as a complex Shockwave.

Very arguably. The Animated mold, despite having four modes, doesn't do a whole lot to transition into them. The Prime mold is only a little more complex than the Cyberverse versions.

I dunno. The Battalion one just LOOKS more like the kind of Shockwave figure I want in robot mode. This Cyberverse one does not. I don't like the styling and shapes of this one at all (and that stupid brow annoys me more and more. it gets in the way of what it supposed to be a creepy menacing emotionless eye). And I'd take that spaceship thingy (which looks at least something like his old spacegun mode) over the goofy 'spider-tank' any day.
Maybe War for Cybertron will finally produce a high quality affordable voyager G1 Shockwave (although by the aesthetics shown in other figures it'll probably have a ton of unnecessary detailing. I like SOME on my G1-ish figures rather than overly smooth plain cartoon style but not like someone went crazy with an Etch-a-Sketch)
This Shockwave wouldn't put up with walking around on all fours and having bright pink highlights.

And I'm not going to cop out and praise the alt mode as being 'elegant and brilliant in its simplicity'. No - that's got to be the laziest transformation I've ever seen. You can turn ANY transformer into a 'spider tank' if all you do is prostrate the robot mode on all fours. Ooooh hey look - my Bumblebee is a triple changer! Look! A 'spider tank'!
That would have put the engeneering of Shockwave over it's planned budget, but it would have completed the transformation if his legs and arms actually split in two like BM Blackarachnia. Thus being a TRUE spider tank.

Posted by Evil Eye on July 21st, 2018 @ 10:01am CDT
THAT SAID I do like the idea of Shockwave being a spider tank in a line with a better budget; I heard we're getting a Leader Shockwave in Siege/WFC, perhaps have him pull an Ultra Magnus with a Voyager core robot that turns into a "satellite cannon" like the CW Legends, which in turn forms the turret of a giant spider tank, which itself forms super mode armour in robot mode.

That's more of a Fuchsia Rose colour and limitations of the US comic colouring of the time though so it gets a pass. And to be fair he did just take down all the Autobots with one blast so he can wear any damn colour he likes. Man, Shockwave in the Marvel Comics (both in US and UK stories) was way more badass than the cartoon counterpart. An actual threat.

I do though. Even just from the design of the robot mode. I don't like the Cyberverse one at all. Yeah, knee joints would be nice but I'd still far prefer seeing the Battalion one standing on my shelf than the Cyberverse figure. There's way too many aesthetic and design choices I dislike about the Cyberverse Shocky wheras the Battalion is a decent sized fairly classic look of the character that could suffice until something better comes along of which is has not yet done so (not including MP cos that's different scale and silly monies)

Reminds me of the Exorcist (which I always felt was a trashy film even when I was a kid)

Have you guys handled the cyber battalion toys? Or tried posing them? That line is incredibly lacking. For the same price, we get the Ultra shockwave which seems to have as much quality as the Prime Voyager from a few years back with similar articulation. I am equally baffled by those preffering a budget line upscaled toy specifically made for developping countries.
Plus, looking at the alt mode, neither are great, but at least the exposed limbs for cyberverse are the limbs of the tank rather than the arms in the cyber battalion doing nothing.
I also find it incredibly belittling and immature of people in this thread to present hyperbolic images of people in weird poses when the alt mode (while admittedly not the best) is an actual legit thing

And one we already had in Transformers

I am not saying this toy is great, but it will do the job fine and I think it will do a better job than the cyber battalion if only due to the better articulation and less hollow/light feel
You guys can be the judge when you get them in hand. In any case, I already made my top 5 Shockwave list and neither seem good enough to replace any entries.
