The figures themselves were basically the AOE figures, sprayed chrome in what it came out of the box. Some sets were pretty decent, while some had defects like uncoloured parts. The alternate mode was not painted. Some who tried to transform just got the stock colour showing through. Came packed in the cut up deluxe bubble slotted in a black cardboard box.
I managed to pick up a Bumblebee. Slug sold out first.

Wow. They just sprayed chrome on regular releases. How terribly cheap. That is a really low move. I'm going to assume that this isn't the first time something like this has happened though. Or is it?

Gold and Silver chrome figures are usually handed out as limited pieces, mostly as raffle or contest pieces. This is exceptional I'll admit (especially that only the outer shell is chromed!), but chromed figures have a certain status to them thanks to their rarity.

paint the purple and red silver on scorn.. and man, those would look incredible.
.. i whole hell of a lot more accurate than the damn regular release.
i really wish they had used a nice pearlish grey plastic with silver paint, and maybe some color accents.
i went out with my mom today to help her get mulch, soil, and plants, and we ran into TRU.. and even she asked why they don't look the same as they do on the rendering that's on the card.

We've seen the silver chromed Transformers: Age of Extinction Wave 1 Deluxes from the Singapore launch of the toy line last week. Now, thanks to local fan IZreloaded, we get a closer look at the top prize of the evening: a gold chromed Leader Class Optimus Prime with display case! Also included below is a report on the event and some images showing off the Bumblebee and Optimus walking suits; a video of the gigantic queue for the launch and ensuing robot madness can be found here!
Transformers Age Of Extinction Toy Madness @2200
More than 1000 fans showed up at Hasbro's Transformers Age of Extinction Toy Madness @ 2200 event at Toys R Us at Forum The Shopping Mall, Singapore to be the first to own the toys from the new Transformers movie. The top spender of the night walked away with a Gold-Chrome Transformers 4 Optimus Prime Leader (with display case) which is limited to Toys R Us Star Card members only. Fans also put their skills to the test in a race against fellow fans to convert Transformers figurines and have their photos taken with their favourite Transformers characters. Casts from local movie Ah Boys To Men were also there to interact with the fans.

Seems weird to see a Toys"R"Us in a mall. I'm wondering how much the winner of the Optimus spent?

I just think it's generous and wonderful that this guy would take his lucky draw out of the premium casing to give us a close look at this insanely neat figure. Very cool of him.
I do hope, as he speculates, that we get a Silver Knight version of this down the line.
