Anyways, there was also a Krok, there. I didn't buy it because I picked it up at a Walgreens in Omaha. No sign of Quake, though.

If we were to get a Glyph (and hopefully keeping her battle-masked face intact), I'd demand that we'd also get a Tap-Out redecoed from the awesome that is GDO Cliffjumper.Kurona wrote:Honestly? So was Hauler, and he has even less toys than Cliffjumper. At least Cliffjumper has a recent generations legends class toy. So you could use that one and this new Bee and have them both on your team looking different. Thats what I aim to do.
Hauler was a mistake by Sunbow. Look at the year one catalog poster. Not on there, because there never was such a character intended. Not even in mail orders like Reflector, also not on the poster.

I still want Nickel, Will!
This one might be a KO, tho

I always want more femme bots -- I'd still like Megatronia some day!

Not quite. It's likely that Hauler aka Grapple was held back one year for unknown reasons, the news reached the studios just in time for him not to appear again until Season 2. Such changes do happen.

Did a digibash of that years ago!
Could be up there since (At least for me) when I google "Tapout transformers" I find my old art such as WFC Tapout and my Prime Tapout both which are actually meh when I look back. (At least I updated them)

Anyways, I've had Brawn for just a little over 24 hours now and I have to say I'm quite enjoying the figure. No pictures yet 'cause I'm lazy, but he's absolutely a fun little figure and probably tied for my fourth-favorite Legends mold so far in the line. (Bear in mind that while that doesn't sound like much, I think TR has had some of the best Legends in a while; he's surpassed by Wheelie, Kickback and Gnaw, and I'd put him about even with Bee at this point.) I do still have my issues with him, primarily a few paint blemishes - despite the fact that I picked the best-painted of the three there, he's still got some noticeable smudging on the left forearm - and the fact that his torso seems... oddly-proportioned in robot mode.
I don't know exactly what it is about the torso - maybe it's that having the exact same dimensions all the way to the hips makes it seem like he has a giant 'chest', maybe it actually is a bit too long to fit proportionally. (Upon examining images, it does indeed look like the 'chest' area has been way stretched-out, comparing it to both cartoon and toy renditions.) Either way, it bothers me a bit and makes him a little less dynamic-looking, but by no means does it outweigh any of the positives!

That aside, there's just something about him that leaves me feeling underwhelmed somehow. Maybe it's the slight imperfections, maybe it's the fact that I've been looking for him for so long that it feels unreal to actually hold him in my hand - but something leaves me with less of an impression than I usually have when I pick up a new TF. I have a right blast whenever I actually play with him and there's no definable quality that really brings him down much, aside from the mis-proportioned torso, but I guess it's just some personal combination of factors that makes him feel like less of an 'event' than a new toy usually does.
Of course, more than usual in a review, I'd say that this underwhelming-ness is a very personal thing. Objectively, Brawn's a pretty great toy! And I don't regret buying him in the least; far from it!

Maybe this was like the original Galvatron and Alpha Trion designs; where they weren't initially designed for Titans Return but got co-opted in? It would certainly go some way in explaining why he's randomly there and his two cohorts don't get the same treatment.

Hmm, that might be right. Given that the final product doesn't exactly have the greatest TM integration (cockpit on the front, two pegs on the back), it doesn't seem far off that the design could have been altered to accommodate them - plus possibly some other changes.
In fact, if the original transformation scheme involved rotating the beast heads out to the sides, rather than downward on a single panel as in the final, that could also explain a) what the hypothetical chest space could be used for in robot mode (to store the beast arms that may rotate in there to hide); and b) why the torso is so short, since if there's no need for a cockpit or that huge long folding chest-flap, the body can be as short and stocky as they'd want! That would also explain why the neck bases/robot shoulders seem to be attached directly to the top of the torso, rather than to the inner-front of the chest and then pegged into the top of the torso, if the panel they're attached to was intended to be there (instead of above and in front).

Man, I don't even know if I'm articulating this well at all. It's definitely not an obvious change, more something I'm just sort of constructing in my mind, but at the same time I wouldn't say it's too impossible for that to have been the case originally. TL;DR Hypothetical alternate transformation schemes are fun! I still don't know what they'd do about those teensy robot legs, though...

Maybe they'd still unfold from the tail end? I do like how they managed to turn him into a TR if this was a previous design. To those that have this toy, I have a question. What is the purpose of his crotch plate being able to flip up? Just for added leg articulation?

Heh, yeah you're probably right. I'd somehow forgotten how Twinferno's lower body transforms (despite having owned him for like four months

Nexus Knight wrote:To those that have this toy, I have a question. What is the purpose of his crotch plate being able to flip up? Just for added leg articulation?
Yeah, it seems to be pretty much for articulation only. It certainly doesn't do anything for beast mode - in fact, if you have it in any position other than default-straight-down, it gets in the way of a bunch of connections for the legs and tail. So yeah, probably just to let him move his robot hips more than like 10 degrees forward.
(I'm pretty confident on the above, but I understand if you don't trust me on it, seeing as I'm the same guy who totally forgot how the toy even worked an hour ago.

I think it's a late response to a certain someone's Ben & Jerry's purchase. Don't be surprised, it's pretty good ice cream.
Back to Titans Return toys. Uhm...
I was comparing my Broadside to pictures of Alpha Trion and am quite surprised at the amount of parts they share:
- the Titan Master
- the feet
- the outside of the lower legs plus the panels
- upper arms
- hip joints
- "stand" of ship mode
Not a retool in my book, just worth noting.

I bet we'll be seeing more and more parts-sharing moving forward, as designers/HasTak start pushing the limits of exactly how many parts they can share and in what ways they can be used (e.g. thigh parts as upper arms, etc). Not that I think this is a bad thing either; seeing cost-recouping measures evolve from straight repaints, to dual-purpose molds, to consistent remolding, to pretooling, to now parts-sharing, is really cool to see and I love the ever-increasing individuality and 'fitting-ness' of each character's toys.
Compare, say, Armada Blurr/Universe Swerve or Cybertron Landmine/Movie Grindcore to something like A3/Broadside nowadays, and I just can't help but feel amazed at how good HasTak has become at getting their money's worth out of a mold without making it feel like just a cost-saving strategy.
(Of course new-head redecos aren't obsolete quite yet - Chromedome and Breakaway testify to that - but they're in the minority now, and they definitely aren't nearly as clumsy about it as they used to be.)

Ooooohoohoohoo I can't wait to get a chance to grab these guys! In the meantime though, I'm just plain excited to see more in-hand images of Seaspray because he still looks so amazing.
Interesting, though, that in-hand he looks a lot less 'clean' than he did in previous images. I'm sure part of it has to do with his legs being packaged sideways, but it just looks like he has a lot more obvious hinges and joints than the (IIRC) super-jointless-looking images I seem to remember. (I might just be misremembering of course.) Not that I mind it either, in fact it makes him fit in a bit better visually with his buddies - just interesting that the joints and lines seem a lot more prominent than I remember seeing in previous pictures.

I guess the mould change to the underside should make the turret form more feasible for the Micromaster/Targetmaster companion - it does fit in there on the original but it's a lot of effort to jam in there.
