Masterpiece rumor: Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-28 Hound

Well, excellent! Ironhide, now this!? Throw in Mirage, Perceptor, Blaster and the inevitable Ratchet retool, and all my favorite Autobots are covered. But, uh.... We need more Decepticons. They are VASTLY outnumbered in every toyline, but ESPECIALLY Masterpiece.

I'm surprised it's not Ratchet, but I'll take one nonetheless. He can hang out with MP Ravage.

I do not understand this logic. The Decepticons were vastly outnumbered. They also had precious few unique body types, with more than half the original Decepticon toyline burned through in MP-13, MP-15 and MP-16. Break out the original catalogue's checklist and tick them off. They've even been gifted/bolstered with the addition of MP-09B, MP-10B, MP-13B, MP-23, MP-11S, and Acid Storm. Unless, perhaps you want them to go further and milk the MP-11 mold even further, into more Seekers such as the MTMTE-generics, Hotlink, Bitstream, etc.
In terms of percentage of their roster completed, the Decepticons are far and away ahead of the Autobots.

Well...this was certainly a pleasant surprise to read as soon as I got into work! Whoo hoo. Just like with wheeljack, I can not WAIT to get my hands on this figure.

Wow I did not expect this so soon. I am pretty sure that this is going to be MP hound. I was expecting a retooled Bumblebee into Cliffjumper before this!

The coneheads are 85. The Insecticons and Constructicons showed up on the 1984 season (as did Shockwave) even their toys did not debut until the 1985 model year.

At any rate, they've not been wrong all this time so I'm confident MP-28 will indeed be Hound.

If I'm Takara and these Autobot cars and such are making the company good money, then I'm riding this gravy train until it ends on dried up potato mountain. Those Decepticons can Deceptiwait.

My nitpick is with the bolded. What 3rd party Masterpiece has been categorically embraced as "better" than Hasbro/Takara?

Wasn't Citizen Stack. Wasn't Carry. Apollyon doesn't directly compare (and is plagued with issues). Most other 3rd Party MP are characters HasTak hasn't touched. FansToys has a legit shot with not-Hound and the eventual not-Grimlock, but the only way I'd buy into the bolded statement would be in direct comparison to the same character(s) HasTak has released...and with what we have I'm just not seeing that.

Takara really needs to get ahead of the curve on product reveals. I feel bad that I'm having to cancel so many 3rd Party Masterpiece preorders lately. Hopefully their next reveal will be Sunstreaker because Omnigonix looksunderwhelming and although I like Badcube, I have reservations about their recent Sunstreaker reveal.

They could, and call me crazy here, step outside of the 1984-1986 comfort zone that every TF toyline seems to get stuck in.

Besides, they could also do Galvatron, Scourge and Cyclonus (so fans can re-enact the Target:2006 fun), Shockwave, the Triple Changers, the Insecticons, and yes, the Coneheads and Reflector, just from 1985-1986 alone; not to mention the Constructicons, Stunticons and Combaticons. Hell, if you add 1986 then besides the movie trio there are the Battlechargers, the Predacons, and Gnaw.

If Ratchet's the next one after Hound, so much for this, then:

I was referring to Fanstoys. I dont know if you had a chance to manipulate a product they made but when you do you really wish that Takara/Hasbro would be like that. It's solid, heavy and stable. It's full of diecast at the places it matters. The paint job is superb with no chips/crack/spit/scratch. All joints are tight. It also looks and transform like an Advanced version of a G1 toy should. This is all IMO of course but i know a lot of collectors agree with me...

Fanstoys and Badcube have pretty much become my go-to for not-official MPs. Badcube's quality is not quite on par with Fanstoys, but their ingenuity is astounding. Warpath is one of my favorite unofficial MPs so far. They really need to do a Powerglide in scale to go along with him. Maybe find a way to make him go from a Seeker-sized vehicle mode to a Warpath-sized robot mode.

I took a huge chance with Apollyon and it is also one of my favorites even if I won't dare Transform him. The robot mode's look is picture perfect. I wouldn't be disappointed with a Fanstoys Willy, but Takara has done a good job with the currrent MP line. I even decided I could live with Ironhide's hip flaps because his chest is more spot-on than Voodoo Robots', and you know Takara will have better quality control than some unknown company.

I've been wanting to try Badcube for some time now but not for their Warparth. I already have the Takara one and I really like him, even if hes not mp scale. Hes one of my favorite non mp. The products I want to try from Badcube are Brown and Outback.

Im just waiting for the interesting releases to slow down. It's a good time for Transmormers collectors with so many nice releases but it is becoming hard on the wallet...

Where's Jazz,Sunstreaker and Mirage? Then Shockwave, Jetfire and the rest of the Dinobots. Everything else can come in whatever order. But as long as I get the rest the original 18 Autobots I'll be fine. They are long overdue with the rest of Grimlock's boys!
