The new Transformers Studio Series Rise of the Beasts are coming into the hands are more and more eager fans. Airazor has just been found in Canadian Gamestops across the country and Amazon has shipped out some of the figures as well. that's how out friend Chuckdawg1999 got his hands on the figures and he has a review of them below. Like that you can see if these figures are for you or not. We also have a review of Battletrap from blurrprime, another member of our community, which we wanted to showcase. Enjoy!
chuckdawg1999 wrote:Core Class Arcee is a great figure. I'm amazed how much detail Hasbro could pack into such a small figure. Transformation is simple but satisfying, it's nice to see the arms properly transformed unlike in the preview pics. I'm curious how they could refine this transformation at a larger scale if at all. Arcee is definitely worth the purchase.
chuckdawg1999 wrote:I wasn't expecting to like ROTB Cheetor, but I was pleasantly surprised by a simple transformation that's still fun, and a very clean Cheetah and robot mode. From what has been shown in trailers the paint deco is fairly accurate to the movie, now we wait to see how much screen time this big cat gets.
chuckdawg1999 wrote:Well, this is an interesting little guy! While I'm not sure how it'll be handled in the film, Freezer has three weapon modes, including one that combines with the soon-to-be-released-not-sure-when Leader Class Scourge. Out of the three, I think the hand-held rifle is my favorite as I see it as the most useful. The robot mode is interesting but the loose joints and oddly molded legs make it hard to hold a pose. I recommend it just for the weapon modes alone.

Great review! I'm in the same boat with you on being pleasantly surprised. The figure itself is, in my opinion, better in-hand, than what we saw in his initial pictures. What's bothering me about him though, is his lackluster paint job, and his hands/feet. They just don't look good in either mode.chuckdawg1999 wrote:I wasn't expecting to like ROTB Cheetor, but I was pleasantly surprised by a simple transformation that's still fun, and a very clean Cheetah and robot mode. Edit: expanding on the hands/feet: not sure why his robot foot colour is matched to his cheetah front paws, and his hands are matched to his back paws. Seems like it would have looked a little more cohesive, if the robot feet were the same colour as his robot hands, and having his cheetah paws all the same.

That really doesn't bother me as stuff like that happens all the time due to gang molding and the such. Before brand unity that was something that Takara would take care of, one way or the other.

In my opinion, the mismatched hands/feet/paws stick out like a sore thumb. Initially, and I don't think I was the only one, I thought the figure hadn't been transformed correctly for the pictures.chuckdawg1999 wrote:That really doesn't bother me as stuff like that happens all the time due to gang molding and the such. Thinking about it, I wonder if it's due to Cheetor's ROTB movie design, and the toy designers were left with little to no choice. However, I'm unable to locate any clear images of his robot feet in the movie screenshots that we've gotten so far, so I can't say either way.

Dispensor should get his own mold eventually. I want a Studio Series Doctor.Hero Alpha wrote:I dont know if anyone else already said this, but can we please gets a Dispensor repaint of Freezer?

Dispensor should be his own mold. Frenzy would be a closer candidate for a remold, I think, although he could also use his own mold. Both would probably be core class, so it's not too crazy to hope for new molds.

Well of course I agree and would love a new mould for Dispensor. But I dont see that happening, so I take what I can gets.

ROTB SS Cheetor Voyager

Arcee: I think she might actually be the best core class figure we have gotten so far, outside of maybe Rattrap. She is very nice, both in colors and in transformation. Her bot mode is nice, and I appreciate the wheel feet option. She's just very enjoyable!
Freezer: This little freak is pretty neat. I like how the robot mode has a lot of options for limb and head configurations. He is a nice little army builder.
Bee: I think this is the best and most solid SS Bee so far. He is really good. He feels different from every other SS Bee in that he feels legit solid and more solidly built. And the alt mode is really great, like this is an awesome car mode. I love it.
Airazor: she is very solid as well. I love the detail they built into her, and I love how they took the Kingdom figure, upsized it, and gave it bigger feet. They did good here, she is nice.
Cheetor: He is a nice size, a nice simple transformation, but he still has some nice tricks in the transformation and a nice sculpt for both beast and robot mode. I like the headsculpt. He's just really solid.
Battletrap: Another nice solid one. I love the robot mode, it has a nice movie-verse design while showcasing that rough 90's truck muscle. He feels solid. His wrecking mace is also really good. I don't know why people are having issues with the transformation, without instructions mine went right into place. Truck mode is good, he is good. I like this guy.
I would rank this wave:
1) Bumblebee
2) Battletrap
3) Cheetor
4) Arcee
5) Airazor
6) Freezer

Also, indeed, that Arcee is pretty damn nice and her transformation is clever.

I also think he could be a great retool as Armada Red Alert...

At least in my area, the Arcee/Ironhide wave was not stocked until around Christmas at last, the stores are pretty severely behind on SS figures.
Anyways, Cheetor rules pretty damn hard

Appart the specialised independent shops for some reasons.

I guess he meant in brick and mortar stores. So far, there's no shortage of them online, like Amazon.ca.

They got away with so many jokes and innuendo in that cartoon, and they still took shots at the censors.

Love 2007 Cliffjumper. I really like that you kept the blue highlights, even if they aren't "allspark blue". Using the same blue for the eyes and the highlights is a great idea though, gets the same point across. Man, Reign of Starscream is one of my favourite Transformers comics, this brings back so many memories... You did a great job here. Any chance you'll do an Evac from Blackout? If you do, please post it, I'd love to see it. Now my brain is just flooding with those 2007 repaints.

Thank you! Evac from Blackout would be really cool (I wanted to get Evac back in the day but never found him), I'd need to find an extra Blackout/Grindor but that sounds like a lot of fun!

Man, I'd love to try a repaint sometime. Just gotta have some free time. If only people would quit getting sick so I wouldn't have to work 50 hours a week...:-/

The bot look pretty damn nice and the details pop.
But the car mode shouldn't have been painted by hand. The thick paint make it look like the car was parked under one of those infamous magnifying glass sky scrapper from the UK.
To avoid that, airbrushing is a must, with many thin layers. If you don't have an airbrushing kit, a basic set with a compressor can be had for around 100$ at Amazon.

Thanks! You’re right about alt mode, and it’s compounded by the fact that this SS-49 started off as a Guinea pig for the yellow spray paint I went on to use on DOTM Bee, and the spray paint went on super thick and uneven. I probably should’ve scrubbed the yellow paint off, but I was worried about how the oven cleaner would interact with the clear plastic. I would definitely do things differently if I was to start again, but I’ll chalk it up to a learning experience! Still overall happy with how it turned out.

Well, I'm a total noob with airbrushing so I'll need a lot of practice. In winter it's hard because doing it inside makes quite the mess.
Still, I bet my lazy-ass will keep using these for a while:

Hint: it suck-ass on small things with small parts.

We don't know for sure that they are coming, just that product codes and renders exist. They haven't been able to order by retailers, nor evidence that they have been produced yet.

SS-94 is also unaccounted for right now, it was thought that might be Hatchet but we don't know for sure.

and did Barricade really look that bad in vehicle mode eeeewwwww,
kinda reminds me of the RID2015 combiners vehicles that went onto cyclonus or something. Bot mode looks really nice tho.
Also for the numbers focused, these have their own numbering 01,02,03 etc.

Bumblebee I like the alt mode and weapons, chest is a little weird though with the wheel cavities just sitting there
Optimus is the one I'd have wanted the most but he's just not doing it for me. Love the weapons and alt mode, and it's cool that he's bulkier. But I liked the way the deluxe looked a little more. Maybe the paint just looks too bright idk
