We also have an image of Volcanicus fully combined, giving you an idea of his size and how the newly revealed arms look like transformed. Please note that he is using 2 Grimlocks for the legs since Snarl, the final bot, is not yet revealed. That is also why "fully combined" remains in quotation marks.
“Hi Transformer fans! Playing a bit of catch up since I forgot we were revealing Core Class Swoop and Skarr so soon!
These guys form the arms of Volcanicus that you can see in the first few photos. This gives the combined form pretty standard DLX articulation. He has shoulder rotation and raising, Bicep swivels and his hands can accept 5mm port weapons.
You can see that the waist and leg joints of Swoop and Scarr give Volcanicus the arm articulation similar to how Combiner Wars figures worked a few years ago. I just think the combined form is pretty neat. We’ve just got Snarl left! Hopefully we’ll be showing off the last foot soon.
Swoop compacts nicely into his Pterodactyl form and his wings give the combined form a nice spiky arm detail. We were able to give him ball joint elbows since he’s not as bulky as the other dinosaur forms.
Attached at the end is my concept drawing for Skarr. I based my drawing off the Comic appearance drawn by Livio Ramondelli from the Monstrosity arc of the IDW continuity. I was afraid (loaded with anxiety) that he wouldn’t stand out/look like he belonged with the other Dinobots but I think we got there. He turned into quite a beefy tank by the end. He gives Volcanicus a mean left hook!
Hope you all are enjoying what we’ve shown so far and look forward to the last reveal for these Core Class Dinbots!”

Nah, I'm okay with waiting the official reveal. I like to share the enthusiasm with Transformers team when they show the toys they've been working on. I am comenting now because of the ARMADA HYPE!
So no more counting the days till MP armada prime?

On the other hand, the Armada love has given me hope for maybe some more diversity in the Legacy line. Armada, Energon, and Cybertron are not going to need much Geewunning so they can stay faithful to the source material. In fact, I'd love to see what new technology could do with some of the brilliantly inspired but horrificalily executed two-bot gestalts from Energon. Hopefully, they won't screw them over them like they did Prime Arcee and Bulkhead. And it's finally nice to move on from G1...
...I hope...
...maybe...
...please?...
...Transtech?....

I find the back to be more fiddly and fragile than 86 Jazz. The weapon is kinda cool but a touch unwieldy when combined.

And the fact that it's not Knock-Out, but Knock-Outish doesn't help his case.

Gobots Monstrous
Would love it if they did this, but that's much to extensive of a retool to pull off. Still, feels like there's some inspiration at play between Swoop and Grimlock.

Super hyped for Armada Optimus Prime, and TulioDude's reaction was also something I was looking forward to, lol

I would consider them good design, for their price point. They're definitely fun desk toys, and their ability to combine is excellent, but with that being said, I'm not keen on the core class figures overall. Personally, I'd prefer Hasbro put more focus into the larger classes. I'd rather pay ~$24 for a good deluxe, than paying ~$12 for a tiny core figure with limited articulation.william-james88 wrote:You once talked to me about good design vs bad design, how would you characterize these mini dinos?

100% agree! However, in my opinion, Knockout isn't the worst offender. For me, it's the Legacy Armada Hot Shot... those knees are awful! (at least on my copy)william-james88 wrote:I really hate when the knees can easily be disconnected.

If anyone puts out a new Puzzler that doesn't suck, I'll be all over it. As for this guy, he doesn't look as bad as I expected but he doesn't look good enough to waste money on. I have a Micro Monstructor, I don't need another one.

I'm glad its coming for those that want it. I have zero interest, but knowing Hasbro, they will make the trailer Airlock compatible just to spite me.

It's the original. Though, it might just be sitting balanced on top of the figure, rather than actually attached to it.o.supreme wrote:So is that the original Overload or a new one? Super interesting if it is compatible with an almost 20 year old toy.

It looks like the original one. Though no way to know if it's actually attached and not just balanced on him.
As for the rest of the pictures. Damn, that Prime is looking mighty nice.
MSRP $90?
I'm definitely picking that one up.
We'll need to start saving some money for him.

I'm gonna have to disagree. Knockout is o.k. He';s not great ir fantastic, but he's fine for what he is. I've had no issues with his knees. What's not cohesive about him?

You didn't really see much talk probably because that toy was not good. I was super disappointed in that Knock Out, was from the moment it was revealed. They removed everything in that robot mode that was actually "Knock Out". They even screwed up the head.
Armada Optimus Prime looks AMAZING!! WOW!!!!!!!!
Also, I thought I saw it somewhere, but I like it when combiners are thick and thicc. They look more muscular, and more likely to take advantage of their size. If you take CW Defensor and replace Blades with the deluxe Groove, his proportions are basically perfect for me.

Bandai isn't doing the GoBot era of Machine Robo, they have a new line called Unit Roborn. Action Toys and now Moderiod (or something like that) are doing toys based on Revenge of Cronos. Action toys haven't had a new release in a LONG time though.

Agreed on the bulkiness of the combiners, but I do think the Hotspot/Onslaught mold needs updated. In torso mode it's kinda stiff and limited. Not nearly as bad as the Motormaster mold, but worse than the Cyclonus/Silverbolt one.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:I like it when combiners are thick and thicc. Hopefully if Legacy gives us more full-sized combiners, Defensor is next.

Outside of Menasor, I am perfectly OK with us leaving the combiners alone for a while that were done in CW and PotP.
If we must do a combiner a year, I'd like to see combiners not yet done, such as a full sized Monstructor, and maybe expand outside of G1 and do new Beast, RiD2001, or Energon combiners.

And his Super Mode eyes should be red, not the same golden yellow as his mouthplate, ears, and everywhere else it's found on his body.

Just a technical nitpick for the OG design of that trailer. Tank threads on a trailer makes no sense unless that trailer is an independent vehicle that can move on its own. Poor Optimus having to tow that non flexible dead weight around..

Was it that way in the series? The original super mode figure has red eyes, so they werent going for toy accuracy.Sabrblade wrote:Wow, that truck grill is bland.

Overall, I like it. It just looks cleaner than the original. The cab looks closer in size to the deluxe version, but the super mode is definitely an upgrade. I still have and like my original, so I probably won't get this unless I find it at discount. I never cared for the trailer, mine was always combined with Jetfire.
Waiting to see comparison shots to the original.

He's not less accurate than the previous toy we got of Knockout, and the car mode is great. So, eh

Same. Legacy Wave 1 is STILL hanging around at most places, and has been restocked multiple times. Meanwhile, I've never seen Elita-1 at retail (though I saw her wavemates a whole two times), and never restocked again); and every other wave has been stocked a grand total of once and then never again- but that doesn't mean I ever saw Crankcase, Skullgrin, Dead End or Inferno. But hey! We have all the Velocitron and Legacy beast figures you want, over and over and over!

Yeah, I remember the OG Knock-Out Prime toy and it suck. That one have at least a good base.
If I ever get it (on sale or used for cheap), I'd customise him into an OG character with a another head.

Armada Prime looks to be the 2nd figure this year (after Tarn) that will beat out the 3P MP scale option, giving us a much wanted transforming character that ticks all the boxes and is significantly cheaper than the 3P option.

Importing commanders is impossible for me right now due to silly third world country stuff, but I've only heard good things about them. I suspect they're at a point where they don't have to be as big as a titan, but they're still a big ticket item, so they're right at a price/size junction where a lot of the budget can go to looks and engineering in a capacity that is impossible in leaders due to budget, and impossible in titans due to size.
So there's a good chance Magnus will be great too.
Posted by First-Aid on February 24th, 2023 @ 12:36pm CST
Or the codpiece is just too large. Not sure.
I'll get him, but I think they could have added another inch to the leg length to make the proportions more accurate.
As I've said before, nice to see some lines other than G1 getting some love.
