Transformers Mosaic: "The Freelancers"

Brilliant work, though one point: if that is Swindle at the end and this is set in the G1 continuity, then Swindle shouldnt exist yet.

Why?swindle was in G1.The combaticons.

Maybe I'm missing something, Crosshairs, but how's that? In the cartoon, the 5 sparks Starscream took to activate the Combaticons were Decepticon war criminals who's sparks had been removed and were in a storage facility on Cybertron. That is, unless the comics changed that continuity I don't know about...

Were they sparks? I only watched The Combaticons' first episode once and there was a lot of background noise (thank you AA 2011) so i couldnt really hear much at all. Thanks for that info though, ive learned something new

Their sparks or brain modules had been extracted. However Starscream stole them brought them back to Earth, and installed them into the forms that we know and love.

So we already wheeljack is somewhat of a mad scientist ( dinobots, and the transenstein monster) but what gets me the most is swindle pushed along a device that seems to be the reason that later in the show they have no bodies... At least that's the way I gathered it . I like it the animation was very different from the usual mosaics , which are dark....hey what ever happen to the tank force mosaic ? Did it ever finish ?

a nicely done bit of art for the newest mosaic.

I often wonder however, when someone places a character (swindle) that was post arrival from earth in the G1 cartoon its instantly disagreeable, yet when the same portrayal of another character movie and post movie (ultra magnus) no one bats an eyelid.

need minds be refreshed that this follows comic continuity and whilst officially recognised by Hasbro and idw, it is not taken into consideration when it comes to the entire story arc of transformers. (its like Lucas and star wars novels - a wealth of information at his fingertips, but he has the official right to totally disregard any and ever bit of history/lore brought in by the novels)

anyway - mallets aside - I really love the art in this comic, and the story arc has a nice twist at the end, and definitely rare to see swindle with a very happy look on his face without having his arm twisted (or something blown up)

Great concept but it would have been better if Swindle was portrayed in the last panel as intercepting the conversation between UM and WJ.

It kind of seems like Swindle manipulated(?) Iacon Council for the technology's development.

Nicely done mosaic. I love the expression on Wheeljack and Ratchet's faces after the explosion. Very nice work.

There are well more than one G1 continuity. The cartoon does not take precedence over any of the other G1 worlds.

Plus, who says this has to take place in the cartoon continuity? Can't it be seen as its own continuity without needing to fit anywhere into canon? It is a fan work, after all.

Also: in the G1 Cartoon, Ratchet's helmet is white, not red. So it could just as easily be from the comic's continuity, and even then, there are several different comic continuities, so... I dunno.... pick one.

It's amazing how much people get worked up over which continuity this is supposed to be. I have to say I quite enjoy it

This is essentially the G1 cartoon continuity with a LOT of liberties taken by me. For starters, CR technology was retconned into the G1 cartoon via Beast Wars. Ratchet indeed looks like his Marvel comic self, but I prefer that look over his white helmet.

Also, Swindle being here makes sense to me. After all, he was merely given a new body by Starscream, but apart from his spark being stored in a sparkholder/energon cube he was very much alive and could have well been so for the last 9 million years...

Please also pay in mind that he's still a civilian here, hence the lack of faction labels. That goes for old 'Jack as well!

I think this fits in with G1 and/or fan theories about G1 just fine. Nowhere does it actually say it's a CR chamber. Hell, the only thing we do know about it is it didn't work, having blown up on Wheeljack and Ratchet. It could be a very promising prototype or design that just never was perfected and implemented during the Great War. And as for my boy Swindle: there has long been a theory about him having started as an Autobot. There's pretty much a straight line down the center of Cybertronians: blue eyes means Autobot, red eyes means Decepticons and Swindle always had purple eyes. This has lead some to believe that he was a deserter, a traitor or at the very least switched sides. And here his eyes are very, very blue. And the Combaticons were part of the war on Cybertron and evidently went AWOL or just plain disobeyed orders enough to be considered war criminals by the Decepticons (which I always figured was due to Swindle playing both sides anyway.) As an IRL bonus, history has plenty of stories of a traitor not being trusted by the side he defected to with the primary case being the way the British treated Benedict Arnold once he left the colonies for England. One who betrays his own is never truly trusted by either side afterwards.

Still, enough dissecting. I liked it!

Long story short, this is a G1 story, but does not have to be with the G1 cartoon. The G1 cartoon is not G1 gospel. This is its own G1 story.

In fact, why single this mosaic out of all of them? There's plenty that told their own stories without being related to any existing continuity. Why are people nitpicking about this one when its no more special than any others?
