Transformers Studio Series 86 Leader Grimlock Being Found Across US

That 86 Grimlock is a thing of sheer beauty! How does it contend with Masterpiece Grimlock that came out several years back?

Leakers did say there's plans to drop Titan Class so we can have two Commander Class figures at $100 each per year. Did they know if they were specifically for the "main line" because there's a lot they could do with that budget for Studio Series? Sludge with Daniel was mentioned before we knew about Grimlock with Wheelie, and thinking about it Daniel will probably be the same as the Spike that comes with Buzzworthy Bumblebee. There was also a Walmart listing for a Deluxe Gnaw/Sharkticon so there will probably be more Deluxe figures released along side him. Incidentally Walmart also listed Tra Gen Studio Series Dlx Tf2 Bb W/ Sam which sounds like the Buzzworthy Bumblebee set might get a normal release as well.

Because it's tinted on the original figure. SS86 Grimlock is like an amalgamation of both his toy and cartoon appearances. Originally the toy was going to have gold parts (rather than cartoon yellow) and the black chest window like the toy, but they then compromised and replaced the gold with metallic yellow without changing the window. Don't suppose it's removable? I can see peg holes, but is it glued or screwed in? Looks like it would pop right off to reveal the symbol underneath.

Grimlock looks really good, but next to the MP he loses a bit of his shine. I might still get him for my movie shelf.

I think it's a major fail showing him and Megatron in robot mode but not in T-Rex mode.

I found Jazz, Kup and Blurr at my Wal-Mart today, and Kup looks much better in person than he did in photos.

Must be nice... A few of the Targets around El Paso have Grimlock in the back but have him streetdated for Feb 1 for some reason, even though I bought the rest of SS86 barely two weeks prior

I’ll just put Grimlock on my Grimlock shelf. He’ll be fine next to MP Grimlock as a junior G1 Grimlock. Might wait for him to go on sale a bit, since I do have other Grimlocks.
Can’t wait to get the other dinobots!

Can't wait for BBTS o actually get him in so I can ship him and the rest of the Pile of loot.

nothing else has come in, since the Kingdom deluxe wave 1 . Cheetor and Paleotrex are just sitting there in the pile of loot waiting for something else to show up so I can have them shipped.

You can tell each figure has a different purpose. SS86 Grimlock is all about that classic look you remember from the movie with a few deco differences. But it is exactly what you expect, a classic transformation with some new techniques, such as how the tail is tucked away in the back of the leg for robot mode.

Kingdom Megatron is practically a complete update, more like an homage in a way, with the realistic texturing. No idea how close the transformation is to the OG BW Megatron, but it is, to me, the right kind of complexity. Yes, there are panels, but I think that gave it a more posable beast mode. The tail swings, and the legs have a good range of motion. Grimlock has better dino arms though with an elbow joint. That allows him to give PotP Grimmy a head pat.

And on that, how in the hell can this guy not have Heli Dropkick? He shelfwarmed hard core in just about any store. My local Target still has one.

I was at Walmart earlier today, and while I as not planning on getting any Transformers, I took a peek in the aisle anyway, and saw Grimlock. Man, is he a beefy boy! A return to pre-WCF Leader class height, he is impressively huge! Can't wait to get him, and the rest of the Dinobots down the line (although I have no idea where I'll put them, shelf space is rapidly depleting ).

I'll bookmark it just to see how long he keeps that price and if anybody decides to actually buy it.

I was able to pick up Grimlock yesterday at my local Walmart. He is a great figure, but that Wheelie is hot garbage.

On another note, you know what I'm hoping for? A voyager priced three pack of Insecticons in the SS 86 line. I like the existing legends scale bugs, but the colour changes make them feel less like a team.

I have to say, ol' Grimothy Lockenschpel is looking like a pretty tough contender next to the Masterpiece! Normal dont go for super clompy feet but Im loving how solid and tidy his robot mode is. If he pops up at any of my local stores this weekend there might be a cave in

I'm pretty sure it is glued. There isn't an obvious space where it would pop up from and it does not feel loose.

Thanks, that's too bad, I wonder why they stuck the symbol underneath? They should have made it totally clear so we'd still get the window of the original figure, but it would practically be invisible to match the cartoon.

I really hope to find Grimlock in stores because not having him show up on Amazon until April seems weird when every other store is putting him out sooner. The same goes for Megatron being released a month after the rest of the Kingdom guys.

True...it's really the different chests that bug me...painted vs translucent plastic.

Amazon just charged me for Hot Rod and sent him on the way, so I'm guessing all the others will be along shortly as well.

Agreed. Kickback was the best one. If they did a re-release with all translucent plastic on the chests, I'd buy it.

And to add more to that, Strafe needs a voyager toy, but the deluxe is pretty good. Scorn just needs a TLK repaint or a leader toy, but has that good TLK toy, despite not being accurately colored. Meanwhile Slug has a mediocre deluxe and he really needs a voyager or leader toy.

Slug needs a leader toy, and considering the first movie dinobot came out 3 years ago now, I think the other 3 are long overdue.

Picked up a Scourge last night at another Target. I finally got a figure with a QC issue - My copy is missing one of the guns on the Hovercraft (the left one, specifically). Doesn't affect his appearance in robot mode, but he's no good as a Hovercraft.

Thanks to a heads up from Seibertronian Dominus Prime, we have a video review for you today of a highly anticipated figure, that of DOTM Dino! TonTon Reviews brings us our first full look at this figure. While not a licensed Ferrari, as in the movie (Hasbro doesn't have the license for Ferrari toys), he does transform into a slick sports car mode. He does have a bit of a backpack, and unfortunately, no waist swivel (due to how he transforms), he does have quite a dynamic range of motion for a Deluxe Class figure.



So what do you think? Are you picking up the first Dino figure to have his own unique mold? Going to leave this one on the shelf when you see it? Dino is scheduled to be released by most retailers this summer, but seeing as how we're getting this review now, it may by released earlier than that.

Honestly kinda hoping we get an SS86 Blaster with crew, they’re really the only ones left that haven’t had a good update in a long while, not since Titans Return right? I’ll honestly even take a bare minimum effort Soundwave repaint with at least like a new head and chest at the very least.

I'm seriously considering getting a 3p "Blaster" just to fill the hole in the collection. I'll probably wait to see what next year's lineup looks like before I pull the trigger on that.

There are videos on Youtube where people did what you suggest that came out excellent, but I don't have the paint skills. I could do the modwork, though.

That is annoying.
But ever since, what, ‘06-‘07, a lot of people have been waiting for G1 Dinobots to get their fair share of upgrades.
Classics Grimlock was very mehhh.
I know some are okay with the PotP versions.
But arguably, those aren’t great... Not opening the “can of scale”,
However these characters should be big, relatively bulky, & considering how many times we’ve seen versions of ‘bots like the Datsuns, Hound, Inferno, etc.,
It’s just as frustrating for some of us that it’s 2021 & we’re just NOW getting a great Grimlock figure.
Other than Slag, 3 of them aren’t even confirmed yet!

Fingers crossed that with Kingdom BW releases, Hastak is encouraged & ready to pull the trigger on all 5 Dinobots.
It’s well past time.
And then maybe movie Dinobots will follow.

or, ya know, just do the G1 Dinobots outside of SS and do them all together like that, and do the movie Dinobots in SS like it was intended.

It's really impressive how most of the car panels fold into the chest, reminds me of MPM Camaro Bumblebee a little bit. Not much of a backpack, which is cool. Head sculpt is great, the only real critique I have is how long the door wings are, but it's not a huge deal. Very excited to get this figure!

I'm still undecided on whether or not to get Dino, it's a toss-up between him and the Deluxe Jolt we're supposedly getting. Jolt would fit better in the "ROTF with a few things from the first movie" thing my Studio Series shelf has going on, but I've been hoping for a proper Deluxe Dino (or at least one that isn't a repaint) for literally a decade. Once that Jolt is revealed, if indeed it ever is, I'll make a decision then.

Just wondering this again but why do we keep going with Dino being movie verse mirage? There is nothing "mirage" about him. At least Movie verse hound was a green army vehicle, but here I see nothing either character related or alt mode related.

I have no clue why people still refer to him as such. He was named in the film as Dino. Sure he had that weird credits thing, sure that was the original intent of the name, sure the comic tried to set that up. But like Que, I do not see why people would want to go with Mirage.

y'all have yelled for years about movie characters not looking like the names they use, so just let it be Dino and Que and everyone is happy
