Greetings Seibertronians!
This just in, YouTuber TonTon Review already have the video review of the highly anticipated Studio Series '86 Gnaw! This bot is a deluxe class faithfull as possible to the 1986 movie.

This Sharkticon is the biggest yet, not counting the G1 original. But with improved articulations and better scaling towards the current Generations of figures, this may be the best Gnaw to date.

Are you planning to get this one, or is the previous Generations still good enough? Will you troop build this newest version?

Let us know down below!

Seeing this review I'm completely sold.
The issues of bot color being seen in the beast mode don't bother me as much as I thought it would.
The legs are just a continuation of the color that's around his beast mouth, which helps some.
The blue isn't ideal, but because it's not some random color and is the same blue seen in other areas, I think it's okay.
Seeing the back of the bot head inside the beast mouth is by no means ideal, but it doesn't stand out to me as badly as it could.

This will be the one figure in all of my collection that is displayed in alt mode.
And while I think the bot mode is good (although the eyes are bit big), the beast mode is display-worthy.
I initially thought the legs looked a little goofy, but now, I'm good with those.
Other positives about the beast mode for me:

The eyes, teeth and "face" details look great.
The colors are pretty spot on.
Overall the shape is awesome. Where I thought previous versions looked a little too spherical, this guy has more of an oblong, egg-ish form that I think looks really good.
From what I could see, the molded detail on the back (in the dark gray area) were really nicely done. And the gray area does taper some before getting to the tail, which I appreciate.

Now I'm relatively excited for this figure, and I'll be getting 3 for sure.

*sidenote
This review also helped me realize that I didn't really miss out by not getting the Allicon.
Imo that beast mode isn't display worthy.

The completionist in me will get 1, but I'm definitely not army building. I already have 3 of the TR Legends and 1 more from the Pit of Judgement set. Just 1 SS86 version is enough to be the alpha/leader for the rest I already have.

I'd absolutely love to get one of these but with the new pricing in affect that makes this deluxe 35-40 dollars Canadian depending where you buy it from plus shipping if purchased online. Thats a bit cost prohibitive if a guy was looking to buy a few of these.

Just don't troop build.
Still, if you already have a few Gnaws already, get one SS86 as the "captain" of the troops you already have.
That's what I'll do.

Actually, I think I'd recommend getting one of these guys no matter if you have any previous versions, if you don't want to troop build, etc...
This is one of those characters that I bet doesn't get a new figure for a long, long time, if ever... This is just one that down the road I don't see being a priority. Maybe even when the movie hits another big anniversaty.
I could see Hastak using this mold again as a re-release with maybe some slight differences in deco.
Although I honestly don't even know how they'd change or add to this if they're going for his screen appearance.

Also, This is one of the rare-ish times for me where I don't need this figure to look as close to the screen appearance as many other characters. And for how good this guy does look, I'm very happy with what Hastak is giving us!

This guy looks good, but definitely doesn't fill a need for my collection. I am more than happy with my Pit of Judgement, plus a Titans Return Gnaw I already had, plus an Alicon I was able to subsequently track down.

When Wreck-Gar is dancing with Hot Rod in the movie, they are the same size. This figure is a bit too big. It's bigger than Springer too.

But that won't stop me from getting him.

Hes definitely pretty large and in charge but eh I don't mind either. I kind of like it, makes him more intimidating

Perhaps Hot Rod is the small one lol

I already have Sharkticon Megatron as part of my Quintesson army. There's no need to be limited by G1, after all.

Aside from the Netflix Ironhide recolors, there's also the older Botcon Sharkticons you could get if you wanted to just add more forces to your army.

I'm actually not a fan of Wreck-gar's size. That's not me saying it's bad; I'm sure there are plenty of design aspects that have benefitted from that.
But as was already pointed out, he should be closer to the height of Hot Rod and Kup... And man, he made them look really small in that review. Kup looked like he was supposed to be some younger, smaller version or something... The scaling was very off.
However, I'm still definitely getting him; he looks really on point. I haven't decided if this is a "definitive" version, but it very may well be.

I'm most likely going to be passing on any retools... There's a chance I could be swayed if I like the face/head sculpt and overall colors enough, because I do think the mold is really good.
But right now I'm confident Wreck-gar will be my only Junkion, making Gnaw the only figure I plan to troop build.

Yeah, but then when he duals Springer, he's the same size as well. So pick whichever size you like best. Personally, I preffer him being the same size as springer.

Re: size, the majority of the scenes that Wreck-gar shares with the Autobots, he is usually about a head taller than the likes of Hot Rod or Kup so I think this figure is on par with the movie reference.

If these are indeed stolen and/or "fell off the back of an Optimus" (sotospeak), it is a shame that Chefatron has (started?) to do this. Although I myself love KO, imported and 3P TFs, my main gripe with Youtubers that show "stolen" TFs is that they are setting a new precedent for other Youtubers (in order to "stay "fresh" or "relevent" they might have to do the same). Plus, if Hasbro does nothing to stop this, they benefit from undeclared "sponsored content" at Youtube.

I wish Hasbro would clamp down on these Youtubers with some takedowns, whilst then increasing their official sponsored content much earlier on for Youtubers. BTW, I was watching a British youtuber (not PvP), who does videogame vids (possibly "Nostalgia Nerd"?) and he showed some promotional stuff for "Heroquest" (part of a Hasbro kickstarter) and he had a card from them that basically had a script for Youtubers, which he had to say, almost verbatim, to the lines of "This is an officially sponsored product, sent by Hasbro...etc". That's why I don't for a second believe any of these Youtubers with TFs before anyone else, are officially condoned or supported by Hastak.

Toy Galaxy did a video of the same one I'm guess. And yeah, that has always been a mandate of Hasbro's. When I used to write Transformers reviews for another site there was always a letter in the box from Hasbro that outlined any key points that needed to be mentioned (back then it was May Mayhem and SDCC exclusives) which is why I've never once bought the line about them being officially sponsored reviews that didn't need to mention Hasbro. Yeah right. Recently I've even noticed something new (or at least that I haven't seen before) on some Walmart reviews:

hasbro customer.JPG

If that's being attached to reviews done by nobodies Hasbro gave Netflix figures to on Walmart.com then they're definitely going to expect a mention from YouTube influencers.

No one considered that some online retailers may just don't care about the official release date and simply send figures to their customers early?

Exactly, In Demand Toys does this. Honesty I don't know why we're discussing it as it matter not a single jot. They review toys and it's down to us if we watch reviews or if we don't watch them. That's the binary choice at the end of the day.

Besides which it also wouldn't surprise me one bit if there was some under the table dealing going on to get around youtubes rules on product placement. I mean, look at it this way, Hasbro don't seem to care about early reviews otherwise they'd have done something about it. Heck they didn't seem to care that T-Wrecks got leaked, reviewed and then officially released without an official reveal from hasbro?

There are people on Youtube that call them out constantly and nothing seemingly happens. I am curious, since I know you have expressed your fervor on this issue before, what has Hasbro or TT response been to you (if any) when you contacted them? I'd be curious to know.

There are some people that feel *any* promotion is good promotion. At the last FFF. The presenters at Hasbro made some snarky comments about early reviews of TF product, but that was about it. Perhaps they know there isn't much that can be done?

Now back on topic, with regards to the Sweeps was there any difference between them and Scourge in the cartoons? Errors or otherwise?

I looked at some various images, and they're all really pretty similar...
This is one of those rare cases where if Hastak decides to do something to give them a slightly different appearance-- obviously an slightly different face sculpt, a slightly lighter or darker main color-- I'd be more than okay with that.
Honestly if the only difference is the face sculpt, I may stick with the two that I have on preorder from Amazon, but there's more of a chance that I'd only end up getting one.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but the platinum 3 pack that had reissues of the original Cyclonus and Scourge, also came with a Sweep. How did they differentiate it from Scourge?

Edit... Nevermind, they were universe repaints...I thought they were original reissues for some reason. Oh well

Man that would have been an incredible pack!

And @Aronjlove, in the platinum 3 pack, the sweep was a new head that has no facial hair.

Well, fingers crossed it's something more substantial than just the face sculpt...
At the same time if they're going for movie accuracy then it may not be any drastic change.
Just thinking that's another $60 for a couple figures that may look almost exactly like Scourge...
I'm really anxious to see this figure now!

They might use this as an opertunity to do a gentle retcon of the Sweeps and maybe mix up the shades of blue and grey on the body and toss in a head that's more distinct from Scourge

Unfortunately I see this as a no win situation for Hasbro. In TF:TM, and the Animated Series The Sweeps were identical to Scourge in every physical way (as others have stated). The Actor (Stan Jones), might vary his performance a little to give them different voices, or occasionally perhaps a different actor was used (Did he Influence Dee Bradley Baker and all his Star wars Clones voices ;) ) If you make a straight up Scourge toy, and just change the packaging to "Sweep", this would be screen accurate, however you get fans declaring this as the laziest thing ever, since there was no change. However, if you DO change something (coloration, face sculpt etc...), Then it is no longer Screen accurate. :-? Unlike the Junkions that have many variants, I honestly feel sorry for Hasbro on this one, I don't know how they are going to pull it off.

I think it's a very easy decision. Screen accuracy is the goal here, regardless of how it's achieved. Fans who complain that it's lazy can stick it up their tailpipes.

And they could just buy multiple Scourges to achieve they animation accuracy.
I think the Sweeps should be different, maybe they could have more whites similar to the Generations Scourge? Maybe some energon whips cast in rubbery plastic instead of the blast effect?

That's what I did. In fact, when I see the Sweep, depending on what it looks like THAT might become Scourge and Scourge might become the Sweeps!

With Sweeps looking so similar to Scourge, maybe retooling the face is enough, and shouldn't be seen as lazy.
While I said I'd be okay with a slightly different color, it would need to be subtle.
I'd keep the gray the same (especially since that's also used in the face) and make the blue just a little darker.

I know Amazon's preorder release dates always seem late, but with the one for Sweeps being November 3rd, I wonder how long it will be before any images/videos leak.

Edit... Nevermind, they were universe repaints...I thought they were original reissues for some reason. Oh well

Man that would have been an incredible pack!

And @Aronjlove, in the platinum 3 pack, the sweep was a new head that has no facial hair.

... which was actually originally designed as Devcon.

SS Sweep will probably be identical to SS Scourge, with some paint apps switched around... based on a different color model. Calling that right now!

I hope you’re right... I like Scourge’s face sculpt enough that I wouldn’t even care if that wasn’t changed.
BUT, this is a prefect opportunity for Hastak to make almost zero changes just because these guys are pretty much identical...
So I wouldn’t doubt if the face sculpt is THE only change...
Heck, I saw one character model where the fingers/claws were all completely just the gray color.
I get lots of people would complain about this...
I just wouldn’t be shocked if something like this happened;
New face sculpt, no color changes, & even a little less painted detail.
Not to mention, Sweeps is by no means a main character...
Again, people may not like that, but that’s a fact that Hastak may literally bank on.

Providing minimal changes for the Sweeps might also just be a smart move since Scourge was short packed in the wave with Hot Rod. The sweeps can simply/easily be Scourge for anyone who missed out.

Good call...
It's almost really repacking Scourge with a few changes to the labeling of the packaging.

I would think we'll get a look at this guy sooner than later.

Did you ever buy a figure on a whim? Well I did recently which was Kingdom Ultra Magnus.

But the 86 Series made me think...are we to expect a UM figure in this line?

I'm sorry if this has already been covered but if we will be getting a figure then I will be returning the Kingdom version, of course if it's over all better than Kingdom UM.

My thanks in advance! ;)^ :VEHI:

Currently 0 plans on another Magnus figure.

If they did a new Magnus anytime soon, it would probably be a redeco or minor retool rather than a new mold, so I think this is a safe pickup.

Of course, I have two versions of the Siege remold before I got the Kingdom one, which is all I really wanted, so I'm not a good guide to smart buying.
