I wasn't thinking about boxy G1 designs, I meant the same amount of designs as the Transformers in Transformers: Prime, but live-action. Know what I'm saying or not?
They wouldn't have worked either not in live action.

Those robots were as smooth-looking as the TF: Prime robot designs and they don't even transform. I'd even be willing to call them less complicated looking than the TF: Prime designs, and they still looked good in live action.
Not every movie's giant robots need to be overblown with multi-layer panels and shrapnel decked out all over their bodies.

Is there anything besides the Transformers movies not boring to you? Something's fishy about you and I don't like it at all.
