Alternators: Ravage vs Battle Ravage
Alternators: Ravage vs Battle Ravage
Posted by Saber Prime Thu Jan 25, 2007 6:33 pm
Ravage is officially the first Alternator with a beast mode. The down side is he's allso the first with no robot mode.
Anyway I'm curious to find out something. Who likes the new Beast mode Ravage more than the old robot mode Ravage? And because I wanna see if there's any conection with G1 vs BW let me know if you allso prefer G1 Ravage over the BW version.
I'll post my opinion on them later, I'm just curious to know what you think right now.

not to mention the choice in alternate vehicle is slightly more fitting with the alt version being a jag and the BT being a vette(if memory serves me correctly...i dont own the figure)

(Beast) Ravage is a direct upgrade to G1 Ravage and despite his skinny body and the poorly placed bonnet of the car in beast mode, he looks great.
I am glad I took the chance on him when I found him.

Considering that Takara was following a story line, it seems logical that none of the BT bodies would go to a Decepticon first. After all, how would it look for a car company to build a body for the enemy? Therefore, that Ravage's body would be stolen much like Swindle's is fine by me.
The only reason I can see for Ravage not being as widely accepted in Hasbro's line is because Hasbro has neglected to create any sort of story to justify the characters they choose.
I like Battle Ravage, his color contrasts stand out and the red detailing make him a far better looking character than Tracks. Also his transformation is smoother has the lack of a roof doesn't result in interference with the windshield.
That being said, I look forward to the new Ravage as well, its a unique transformation that shows ambition Hasbro often lacks.

I agree that "Beast" Ravage could have been put together in a more pleasing way but there is something pretty cool about it when its sat in front of you. Hard to describe really, if you can sort of imagine it moving in a cat like way....He's sort of the first scary alternator.

Indeed and I have to admitt I almost caved and bought one today, however all things concidered I still feel Battle Ravage, or in my case Binaltech Ravage, is the better figure. Also I'm holding out to see if/what Takara do with the mould in Kiss Players, it could be awesome and it will certainly look better in alt-mode!

I would also like the floor pan to be black instead of grey. It would go a long way towards give him some pseudo bulk.

I too like Battle Ravage. He reminds me of the Egyptian God Anubis:
Yes, Hasbro and Takara both appear on the underside of the car.

The old Corvette one just looked... weird. Like a robot with a cat head for no reason - more like the Beast Wars Ravage from the TV show, if you see it that way, the toy works much better.
I love the new Jaguar Ravage because he's so unique and well done, and he's easily my favourite Alternator to date!

If you see it that way you'd be seeing it right. BT Ravage was described as being the future version of Ravage (the one from Beast Wars) so you see there is a reason for the cat head.

Dispite my original question I myself was not even affected by my likeing BW Ravage more than G1. This question came as an after thought.
I actully like the Beast Mode Ravage Alternator more than the robot mode Ravage. My reasons being...
A. His car mode is a Jag witch allso matches his Japanise name.
B. I didn't like that the original Ravage had a cat head and didn't have a cat mode.
C. Beast Ravage looks a hell of alot more like G1 Ravage than Robot Ravage looks like BW Ravage.
My after thought was basically "Maybe they made this second version to appeal more to the G1 fans?" So I was just wondering if people liking the new version more liked him only because he looks like G1 Ravage. (Well maybe not only because but that's at least part of the reason)
Allso I normally don't like the Transformers who don't have robot modes. It seems most of the characters matching that description were in G1. Oh well I still like this version of Ravage.

And that's better than an bot mode which looks like someone's cut up a Corvette and stuck the pieces on a robot body more or less in their original position?

Yes because Alt Ravage looks like Battle Ravage might look if he were positioned on all fours, you can see all the car parts hanging off his back. The corvette mould 'hides' all the car parts on the back of the robot mode. Alt Ravage has no where to hide his and what there is is poorly disguised. Basically I believe the designers did as good a job on Ravages robot mode as the did with Battle Ravage but Battle ravage looks better for it. IMO they should have taken more car in where and how they positioned the car parts on the new Ravage.

Although Argos are meant to have the new Ravage, they haven't had any stock of him in anywhere near me, although I plan to but him when they do. I think the new mould looks great and it's good to see the homage to his G1 self.
I hope takra announce they'll be releasing him too, before I find one as I'd prefer to get the takara version. Mainly because he'll be Jaguar (Japanese name for Ravage), who turns from a Jaguar (car) into a Jaguar (cat). That appeals to my sense of humour, so I'd probably buy him even if I didn't like the mould very much.
When I do own both of them I'm not sure what to do with Battle Ravage. The two options I'm considering is making him look a bit more like BW Ravage, or making him into the Japanese Brestforce character Jaruga.

Like AK I saw the Egyptian connection and thought that had the BT line continued, there could have been a possibility of a Buzzsaw/Laserbeak in a similar vein. You can also make BT-11 sit on 'all fours' - which is why his head can be posed upwards.
I don't own Alt Ravage, but he just looks like an after thought.
I'm probably in an even smaller minority by thinking that the Corvette is one of the nice BTs. Out of all the BTs, the Corvette is the only one which has a direct history back to the Stingray. The articulation of the figure is at least equal to that of the Vipers too.

Wasn't the original Hound based on a Japanese jeep rather than a US one?
*Shrugs*
That's the only way I can defend my Corvette comment
