Welcome to the General Discussion area where just about anything goes! This area is designed to discuss all matters and does not necessarily have to be Transformers related. Please keep topics relevant.

No, Gundam is pretty much set and since 1979 there has been a gundam series on air or in development constantly.

The UC timeline started with the original Gundam series and compiles everything up to 1994 and the Victory series.

They then decided that they would go in a different direction and do 3 series based on different concepts. These became G-Gundam, Gundam Wing, and Gundan X. G and wing were quite successful both in viewership and merchandising, Gundam X however was a flop.

What helped however was the UC timeline Gundam MS08 Team OVAs that gave a striped down and more realistic series than had been seen in the recent series.

For the year 2000, they gave control back to some of the original creators to continue what 08 had done. Instead we were given Turn A Gundam, an attempt to mash the 4 different timelines into the Universal Century. Turn A in turn  created a solid fan base but also created a lot of hatred for it's mashed up story, and different mecha designs.

Moving away from that, seeing how successful Wing had been, next up is another timeline for Gundam Seed. Seed is basically the following formula:
(pilots, mechs, fantasy elements from Wing) + (Storyline, factions, conflicts from MSG, 0083, zeta)
And it worked, enough that they doubled the episode count be commissioning Seed Destiny, covering the remaining bits of Zeta, and ZZ.

Leading us to Gundam 00, New Timeline, new plot, new characters and yet seems like everything we've had before.

G was only a success through merchandising. From what I understand, the Street Fighter/DBZ concept was not popular.

The first half is very Wing-esque, while the second half has a huge number of cues to Zeta.

It's also the first Gundam series to NOT make it's own calender. (It uses AD rather than UC or CE)

The viewership for G-gundam isn't easy to grasp, because it did alienate a large number of Gundam fans but it picked up a number of viewers who watched because of the street fighter aspects. Also it should be noted that the viewing numbers were higher with younger viewers, that previously before that point would not have been looked at due to the more mature nature of the Gundam storys that preceded it.

I played as him in Gundam Battle Assault 2 and had no idea where he was from.

So...do you have anything available?

So, Gundam 00 ends this Sunday...and I feel like making some half-assed predictions:

-Graham will show up during the final battle with Ribbons. (This, I think, is a given) I want to say he'll sacrifice himself.

-A-LAWS are finally rejected, (Again, that's a given) and Earth is handed over to the much less oppressive Federation Government. Celestial Being either retires, or becomes a sort of anti-terrorism group.

-Since I need a third: More people will become Innovators.

According to Wikipedia, I only got 1 out of three correct. Damn.

Also, apparently a movie is in the works. That is fantastic.

Yeah.

I don't like G Gundam, mostly, if not entirely, because of the Street Fighter/DBZ aspect.

From what I remember the dialogue was so over the top, melodramatic and soooo cheesetastic

I'm only 2 episodes into Mobile Suit Gundam and some of the dialogue is pretty corny, but then again its from 1979 so its excused :P

Yeah. In regular Gundam, they don't float inside in the cockpit (There's no room for floating, you see, with all of the monitors and controls), and the suits are less "Power Rangers" and more "Fighter Pilot."

Mind if I join the conversation?

I happened to really enjoy G Gundam. I'm a fan of the combat pilot suits. It seems like a much more logical way of piloting a gundam compared the cockpits of the other series. If I were to pilot a Gundam, I'd think having a MS that would respond to my body movements would be the best way to go if I needed to fight. Much more efficient than presing a tone of buttons and 2 joysticks.

00 is my favorite though. it's AC, but it maintains an almost UC quality. Apart from the MS, the show deals with some very real issues that we're currently facing which really adds to the depth of the show. It almost seems like something that could happen. Or maybe I'm just sleep deprived.

Any Outlaw Star fans here?

I know I watched Outlaw Star when it aired on Toonami back in the day. I can't remember what it was about, but I know I enjoyed it.

Big O was awesome. Maybe after I'm done with Gundam I'll search out Big O and Outlaw Star to watch.

Something amazing happened today, an episode of White Album actually made me happy. And considering it hasn't done that since around episode 5, this is a big deal for me.

So it's about freaking time Touya finally learned how to say no. We're so proud of you.

Poor Yuki, she's so sweet but so... dense, I don't know whether to feel sorry for her or not though.

Of course I am still convinced that everyone in this show is mentally deficient. It's actually quite funny when I think about how I get so wound up over such terribly written characters.

But, is this the end? =o I thought it was going to go on longer than this but there was no ad for the next episode. The final screen says "Until the Next Winter..." but I have no idea if that means there'll be more or not.

Since the plot has yet to be resolved in any aspect except Touya finally having the balls to put Yayoi down.

Sigh...

I would have been so much happier if Touya and Yuki had just got it together back in episode... I forgot what number it was... the one when they were together in Yuki's apartment, and the series had ended right there. At least I wouldn't have lost respect for practically the entire cast.

Wellp, at least it's over for now and there was a satisfactory ending to Touya's unfaithfulness so I can stop grinding my teeth over it. Go and be with Yuki you frakking dumbass.

So.... instead of White Album this coming weekend, get ready for FMA 2! :P And some other stuff...

Poor Yuki.

I still want to insert myself into this show, and dispense justice where it is needed.

And bloody hell, Ogata Eiji doesn't half talk some bollocks. Absolutely nothing he said to Touya made any sense. It's like woah... terrible dialogue of the George Lucas variety.

Okay maybe not that bad.

Alright I'm done.

I'm actually hopeful for more White Album now that Yayoi has been put in her place, despite how much it irks me otherwise.

See you next winter...

~

Not much to say about the penultimate episode of Slayers. There was some happy times, Rezo pwning Xelloss, and then him suddenly deciding he's going to rip his soul out of his new body and send himself off to heaven. Oookay, and apparently he didn't consider what it would mean to bugger off and leave the god of all evil alone in his body.

I got some laughs out of my makeshift subtitles though.

Not at all. The issue with that is that when in a set up like that how could fight properly? the suit is suppose to mimic your movements but it is impossible to move the way the unit needs to inside that bubble. You can't run if there is nothing to move your legs against. You can't punch/grab/hold something when there isn't a proper force being exerted against anything. G-Gundam was (and i mean this with respect) a farce. It was a send up of the classic show given a street fighter appeal and querky (to the point of racist) stereotyped units. (after all the Neo-Canadian mech should be a donut eating hockey player, not a lumberjack)

G-Gundam is a fun series when you don't take it seriously, but what it is not, is Gundam.

original sin wrote:Big O was awesome. Maybe after I'm done with Gundam I'll search out Big O and Outlaw Star to watch.

That's the problem, that's a Super Robot type of control. The other series is "Real Robot," meaning the machines are more realistic. That's why the typical MS cockpit resembles that of a jet.

Gundam 00: Finale:
-Ribbons superiority complex is rapidly growing; he not only takes credit for Setsuna becoming an Innovator, he also claims to be God. I think he's also going to claim he invented sliced bread, the electric guitar, and sex.

-Ribbons MS is the Reborn Cannon. It's not, by the way, as big as it looked at first. It's got Twin Drive and...it turns into a Gundam? Wait, what? I mean, I've seen Gundams transform before, they've been trying it on and off since Zeta, but this Gundam just turns into another MS. That's like Optimus Prime turning into a better but otherwise only slightly different version of Optimus Prime.

-Healing Care and Revive Revival come to help Ribbons, despite Ribbons completely trouncing Setsuna. Jerks.

-Allelujah and Lockon come to help out, and Allelujah teams up with Hallelujah in the same way he did at the end of season 1.

-While Lockon has some trouble fighting Revive, Hallelujah rips Healing's unit apart with the Arios's bare hands. Hallelujah is just like that. And then he kills her. Ribbons takes out Arios with Fangs as retaliation.

-The Ptolemy places a smoke screen to help out Setsuna, which works quite nicely.

-Lockon uses Trans-Am for the one-second he has of it, to dodge a single beam saber slice from Revive...and then jamming his beam pistol into Revive's MS, and firing continuously.

-Setsuna uses Trans-Am at the same time as Ribbons, and slices Ribbin's Gundam up. Ribbons, however, takes the 00 Raiser's arm...which you may recall has the 0 Gundam's GN Drive's on it. Really he wants the GN Drive more, the arm just happens to be there.

-Since Ribbon's Gundam is trashed, he put it in the most convenient place possible: The 0 Gundam. (Ribbons using the 0 Gundam is supposed to be somewhat of a joke; Ribbons has the same seiyu as Amuro Ray) However, when he returns to the 00, he find's Setsuna's gone, along with Exia's GN Drive. As it turns out, Exia has been rebuilt. Alright, time for some awesome outdated MS vs. More outdated MS action!

-The fight is set to a monologue from Marina...That's cool, I can ignore that.

-Man, 0 Gundam is the RX-78-2 to the core; they both have the same movements, and even that weird way their arms bend in a way their arms should not be able to bend. And another similarity: They get blown up.

-Marina gives a speech, and I use that term lightly; she says two lines and everyone begins applauding.

-Saji notices that Louise's cellular degradation (Caused by the Throne's Fake GN Particles) has stopped.

-The new Federation president in inaugurated, with Kataron members in the audience. (And someone who looks ASTOUNDINGLY like Anew Returner) A-LAWS have been disbanded, the Feddie Military will be restructured, and assistance will be given to non-Federation Members.

-Mannequin reports that as long as Celestial Being refuses to disarm, they're a threat. Then she gets married to...Patrick?! HA! I knew that bastard survived!

-Lockon continues to work with CB even if the world hates him for it. Allelujah and Marie leave to go find out about their own existence. Tieria, as part of Veda, watches over humanity. Setsuna and CB head out for Jupiter.

-Okay, I love this: The song playing during the final minutes...is the first opening for Season 1. Fantastic.

-Post Credits: A shot of four spheres of light orbiting Jupiter with one inside, and the words: The Beginning of Humanity Ends. Yep, a Gudnam 00 movie, coming 2010...considering it never showed if Ribbons died or not...

I watched an unedited but still dubbed version...never finished it though. I should probably go back and finish that, seeing as how there's no more Gundam for now.

Speaking of no more Gundam for now, I should look up what the next series is going to be...Oh, wait...Looks like we're going to spend a little more time in the Universal Century...

I saw a note on wiki yesterday about the next series being based in UC.

Has anything been noted about when in the UC Timeline it will be? Is it too much to hope they might actually do the proper F91 series?

so that's a Seed and 00 movie to expect. They better not do the 'Lets make two useless 1 hour episodes for different series and release them together as a "Movie"'

According to that article, it's going to be in 0081, following a group of Feddies meant to clean up the remaining Zeons.

I doubt they'll do that. At least...I hope they won't.

If the SEED movie is predictable enough, I figure it'll be a retelling of Char's Counterattack. For 00, it'd probably be about the Upcoming Dialogue, or the return of Ribbons.

:| That sounds disappointing if that is the plot seeing we know following the One Year War that the Delaz Fleet alone does a good job of being quite until Stardust Memories, no to memtion the amount of Zion forces active until the creation of Titans, and Axis/Neo-Zeon.

oh well.

If I were to pilot a Gundam, I'd think having a MS that would respond to my body movements would be the best way to go if I needed to fight. Much more efficient than presing a tone of buttons and 2 joysticks.

That's the problem, that's a Super Robot type of control. The other series is "Real Robot," meaning the machines are more realistic. That's why the typical MS cockpit resembles that of a jet.

Yhea.... I'm not a huge Outlaw Star fan, but it's a good show. That said anyone who has only watched the "edited" version from CN and enjoyed it, deserves to rewatch it properly.

The cockpit was just a new concept and I think it was fairly well executed for the anime. Remember: Science fiction, not science fact.

Outlaw Star is really good. Only episode I didn't like was 23. It does nothing for the story. The idea of grapple ships seems like a very doable idea and I'd love to see the day when we start figting in space.

It was a new concept, but that doesn't make it a good one. But even aside from the cockpit, the Mobile Suit design was ridiculous, and not in a good way. (Ridiculous like a Nickelodeon cartoon is ridiculous, not like how 00 Raiser was ridiculous) And the fact that they took a series that had formerly featured a dark, realistic war between ideological factions, and turned it into a Street Fighter tourney.

"New" does not always mean "good."

So, I've acquired all of Mobile Suit Gundam and 08th MS Team. I need War In The Pocket and Stardust Memory. I can't find them where I usually look :-(

On a non-mecha note, I'm almost finished with my first garage kit figure. All I need to do is apply the flat coat and mount her onto a wood base, but I thought I'd share what I've done with you guys.

Resin is a completely different world from injection molding so I definitely learned a lot from this. It's a model of Belldandy from Ah My Goddess. I chose to use her color scheme from the tv series instead of the movie and OVA's because I like the pastel purple for her hat thing more. The eyes were a pain in the neck to paint. I had to redo them about 3 times before I got something that worked.

Also, this is the first kit in which I've custom mixed every single color used. Not bad for a first time right?

So, I was wondering if someone could tell me the name of the show I'm thinking of. I know its an anime. I just don't remember the name. It was about a war or something with mecha. I know that narrows it down a lot. :P But yeah, the only mecha I really remember was a giant red one. I can't remember its name, but it was Alt something. On one wrist he had a spike that would go fast in and out of the socket and was a weapon. I'm not sure how else to describe it. There was like a gun barrel under it. If I remember right, it had a minigun on the other wrist. On his head he had 3 long antennae? I don't know how else to describe them either

Anyone have any ideas at all?
