And scale is absolutely impossible to keep consistent once they started doing Soundwave and his cassettes. After all, toys can't mass shift. Unless you're telling me that Soundwave just decided to be a really freaking huge cassette player!

I think you're being over-literal here. Obviously you can't have a huge jet or tiny cassette player mass-shift. But if you're looking at automobiles alone, and if the argument is that Optimus scales perfectly with Rodimus, then those are different questions, and have to be considered as such.

I agree with using robot mode scale to ground the entire line, and I don't disagree that Rodimus in robot mode scales well with MP-10 (I disagree on Grimlock - he's Starscream's height, a full head shorter than Prime). But I think it is silly to deny that there was a period in time where Takara decided to bring Masterpiece into the mainstream. MP-10 marked the beginning of a completely different approach to how MPs were marketed and produced. If you don't want to acknowledge that, fine.

The line rebooted mid-stream. They didn't change the whole series, just the approach to these sorts of figures. Technically, Transformers 4 is a reboot, but it's still within the movie-verse continuity.

think about the robot scale! what about robot scale! I thought that's what all this reboot is about.

I can't believe people are still cluelessly claiming that MP-10 being the start of a reboot is a matter of opinion. It's been a known statement of fact that MP-10 was a reboot for some time now- in terms of scale and design - even Takara have come out and officially said so.

The fact is that prior to this, as the MP-04 release of Convoy demonstrates, the Masterpiece line was originally designed to be in scale with the Binartech (and yes I'd argue that claiming it's Binaltech is wrong because it makes no sense in terms of Japanese marketting conventions) line and as MP-03 demonstrates, the designs were more based around realism:



Hopefully this finally puts this issue to bed, but of course, chances are people will still try argue otherwise.....

And regarding the whole "reboot" argument. It is a reboot that started with MP-10 because Takara Rodimus is not Rodimus Prime (wrong colors). The head change gimmick and trailer were bonuses, that's all. That's why he's pink and way too huge to fig in scale with MP-10.

I think Takara will do all of the 84 bots if they can and I do believe they'll figure something out with Shockwave and I do believe a new Megatron is coming.

I've been waiting for this Magnus and always believed it would come ever since I saw that kitbash from that Takara engineer/designer. This is gonna be sooooo cool !

I remember everyone was speculating MP-10B was going to be Ultra Magnus when the silhouette was released - this is definitely something people have been clamoring for.

On a related note, just looked at MP10 Convoy, and noticed several tabs and slots already molded in - forearms, hip, front shins.

You guys have no idea how happy I am. I have been waiting for this bad boy since MP2. It take 3rd party KFC UM to make the headline before TTomy did their counterpunch. Otherwise, he would've still in their back burner. So for 2014, looks like I'll be getting TTomy MP UM, KFC UM, and Toyworld Don IDW UM

There you have it, MP-10 marked the official rebooting of the series, not MP-09. MP-09 was certainly a strong influence in determining that scale, as Hasui himself mentions, but as he says here, it began with MP-10.

he would definitely still be a handgun.. i don't believe japan has the same sort of regulations that we do.

but.. if they were smart, this time around they'd just add the removable orange plus themselves rather than have retailers do it.

i didn't have a problem getting my MP05 back then. i ordered two from ebay from two different sellers. both arrived to me sealed and untouched. i don't remember seeing people having problems with customs.. but it was a while ago, so i could've missed something.

but, with all that being said, i believe that we may get an MP galvatron before we see a second version of megatron. we've got hot rod, and now we're getting magnus, i'd think they'd go with galvatron next.. but i'd be perfectly happy with either one, i think they're both inevitable.

personally, i couldn't care less when the "reboot" started and when it didn't.. the way i see it, other than MP01 and MP05, they all work well together.

wrong colors on rodimus? maybe it's because they were basing the toy off of the movie rather than the show. and i don't know what you're tv color settings are.. but i'm watching a recorded version of the movie that the hub aired a while ago, and the colors are extremely close, and hot rod certainly does not change colors when he turns into rodimus in the movie. so, i'm not sure your color theory can be applied here.

and like i said, who cares about when this "reboot" happened.. we're getting a masterpiece ultra magnus!

i too have been waiting for a masterpiece magnus since we saw the kitbash. i can't wait.

i just REALLY wish they'd release a list of all of the planned masterpiece figures for the next 3 years, and a list of the masterpiece figures that are in the pipeline and are going to go into prototyping.

I wonder what effect this will have on the 2ndary market price of MP-02, if any.

Wrong. For starters you left out MP-02 (ironic in light of this thread) and MP-04. That leaves you with MP-03 and MP-06 - MP-09.

A case could be made for MP-09 as besides the colours issues, it is compatible with the reboot even though it isn't a part of the reboot. With MP-08 however, Grimlock is ironically too small to work with the rebooted scale.

That leaves MP-03, MP-06 and MP-07. Scale-wise these certainly work, however the designs themselves are a different story. With the V1.0 seeker design, it was "revised" by Shoji Kawamori (a name which should be familiar to Macross fans) and is clearly based far more on a realistic, mechanised interpretation of Starscream than it is a cartoon accurate Starscream - you can see this ranging from the realistic deco on Starscream, to the inclusion of side-skirts which are reminiscent of his work on Macross Plus with the YF-19 and YF-21. As such, what you have is something which falls far too short of the cartoon accuracy which the reboot is going for.

Ergo, with the exception of MP-09, there is no valid case that can be made for including anything prior to MP-10 in the rebooted line.

Not sure why you think that is ironic since I wasn't disagreeing with you. It's a lot more helpful for folks when facts are provided, instead of stating things as factual with nothing to back it up.


Back to the topic - I hope the MP Ultra Magnus incorporates enough movement in the armor so that UM isn't a brick.
