Chris Knight speaks out on distribution problems for the Transformers Score

Yesterday saw the release of the Transformers score by Steve Jablonsky in retail stores. Unfortunately, there have been reports coming in that some stores have not received it, with no sightings at all in Canada. Chris Knight, the driving force behind the release, has commented on the situation in his blog:

Long story short: some got it, some didn't and why oh why did Canada not apparently get it at all??? Phone calls will be going out tomorrow to inquire about this.

You can read the whole post here.

On his site he mentions that if the CD/Score sells well enough they'll release a 2 disk edition?

Say....What?

How can you make a cd into a 2 disk edition? Remix the first cd to techno/blast beats on the 2nd cd? Lol.

I do want to get this cd though.

There are a few tracks - like the Ospreys in flight and Sam being chased on the bicycle - that aren't on this CD. A 2-disc set would presumably have these (and in full compact disc quality to boot!).

ah, thanks for clearing that up.

Personally I'd buy the entire cd just for the 'autobots arriving' song. That moment, the music, perfectly epic............... as it should have been.

It's like they did with The Phantom Menace (which I LOVED THIS idea)... John Williams released that score in a two-disc ultimate soundtrack which was essentially ALL the music in sequence they way it was heard unaltered in the film, plus a couple bonus tracks. I wish ALL movie scores were released like this. Yeah that movie wasn't the greatest, but I rank it high on my list of well put together scores. I don't like when they deviate from the original arrangement too much, though Transformers works fine.

I would really like to see a double-disc set. There's definitely stuff missing. I was hoping the song where bumblebee and the army head to the city and optimus and the gang do a 180 to follow back with bumblebee in the desert was there, but there's a trace of that in the scorponok track.

The film was over 2 hours long. There's more music that hasn't been put into that score release that I would love to hear and would buy it for sure.

this is the same idea as what Howard Shore did with all 3 LOTR movies, i.e. they released the COMPLETE RECORDINGS which is every scrap of music heard in order that appeared in the films.

I really hope that they will release this type of thing for Transformers!

(Incidentally, for all those LOTR fans also, the LOTR: The Return of the King Complete Recordings has a release date of Nov. 6, 2007 and is up for preorder on Amazon.com....).

Let us hope and pray that Warners does a much better job at a 2-disc Transformers CD than Sony Classical did with the 2-disc "The Phantom Menace ULTIMATE Edition" soundtrack.

I bought that 2-disc soundtrack the day it came out in November 2000. It's not overwhelmingly bad but if you are seeking everything that John Williams composed for Episode I, you will be sorely disappointed. There are many tracks missing from that set that we know exist, in spite of Sony's insistence that "every note" composed for The Phantom Menace is on it.

(Go find the 60 Minutes broadcast about Episode I from February of 1999, for an example of this. The score that Williams is conducting in the segment about the music for the movie is not to be found on the Ultimate Edition soundtrack.)

To this day, this still irks many Star Wars fans.

There are numerous other problems with that 2-disc set too. Here's the review of The Phantom Menace Ultimate Edition that I wrote for TheForce.net back when it came out, that goes into it further. Hate to say this but Sony really did perform a hack job on that otherwise great score

Suffice it to say, I'm praying that this will not happen to the Transformers score if Warners opts to produce a 2-disc CD.

Well, since Warners also produced the LOTR Complete recordings CDs (see my previous post above), judging by the quality of THOSE recordings I think we can pretty much expect to get something really good and not a hack job like Sony put out...

That's one more thing to put on my Christmas list for this year

The day that the CD came out for Howard Shore's score from The Fellowship of the Ring was the day that I proposed to my wife. She was driving from University of Georgia to my apartment in Asheville, then we were going to my parents' for Thanksgiving. So that morning I went out and bought 2 copies of the Fellowship soundtrack: one with Frodo on the cover and one with Gandalf. When she got there I met her outside and told her that I had a gift for her and that she could pick which one she wanted. I just knew that she'd get the Frodo one :)

A few hours later we were on the road as a newly-engaged couple and we celebrated by listening to the Fellowship soundtrack for the first time. As long as I live, I'll never forget the thrill of heading east into the the night on I-40 and listening to "Concerning Hobbits" just as we were about to drive up Black Mountain.

So I guess I need to go get all three complete recordings of LOTR

Ooh, very cool story! I knew I liked you guys for some reason!

I've got the first 2 sets (have the 3rd on preorder already), probably every version of all 3 movies put out. You should see the office I work in in my home. It's got a huge professionally framed metallic map of Middle Earth above my desk, flanked by UC replicas of Sting, Legolas's fighting knives, Glamdring and Anduril, plus a whole boatload (don't tell my husband how much I spent on THOSE) of Sideshow-WETA polystone statues. Not to mention an authentic Ithilien Ranger costume that I wear to conventions. My daughter says I'm a little obsessed....

Now I'm adding some Tranformers toys to the mix. It's getting a little crowded in here....

You should check out my wife's music classroom at the nearby elementary school. The life-sized Yoda is an especially big hit with the kids (and not a few faculty and even school board members)

I saw that. That was so cool!

My husband just sort of shakes his head at me and smiles. The kids in the neigborhood though love it when I come to the door at Halloween wearing my Ranger outfit. I don't have anyplace hosting the pics though, so I can't show them.

Hey...it's an outlet....

Well I've been wondering. I've searched all over Amarillo for 2 days with no sign of it, and none of the retailers here in town (Best Buy, WalMart, Target, etc.) know anything about it. So I hope this gets fixed...

Didn't you hear? Online ordering is passe. Rushing around the high street is the new fad and it will be the death of the online order.

Matt in High Point commented on my blog that Amazon just sent him an e-mail saying that his copy of the score is on its way to him. Perhaps this is a good sign that they are getting in a lot more CDs

I'd love to see a 2-disc edition though they're already having trouble getting out just the plain score. NO Best Buys in the state of California have it and 4 So Cal Borders "have" it but really only one did and only had one copy to begin with (which I got ). Like many Star Wars fans, I've been burned by the fact that Sony refuses to release complete scores for Episode II and III. So, I'm always a bit pessimistic about any "future" release of complete scores (of course, the LOTR sets have lifted my spirits somewhat). Studios complain about piracy but they're contributing to it. That's why you see stuff like formerly unreleased promos and other bootlegs floating around.
