So, based (partly) on suggestions from you guys and video reviews, I think I have decided what MP's I'm going to get. Of course, big ones like Magnus and Prime had to be cut due to costs, and I decided against Wheeljack due to the fact that I just don't like the look of the MP for some reason.

:BOT: 's:
MP-28 Hot Rod: His design looks really good, I like the transformation, and he is at an affordable price.
KFC toys Doubledeck: Blaster has always been one of my favorite :BOT: 's, and the Twincast deco looks good on him. Plus, he comes with 2 cassettes as opposed to Transistor's 1.
(Now of course, Doubledeck can go jump off a cliff if either Takara does an MP Jazz or TnR Hova ever comes out)

:CON: 's:
MP-29 Shockwave: Needs no explanation.
MP-13B Soundblaster: I always loved Soundwave, and he looks really good in black and red. Plus, he's more affordable than the regular Soundwave.
Toyworld Devil Star: Astrotrain is awesome, and this one is the most affordable.

As a side thing (I don't consider this a full MP):
MP-16 Buzzsaw and Frenzy Rumble: Rumble and Buzzsaw were always my favorite of the :CON: cassettes, and Soundwave would feel incomplete without them

Not gonna lie, you are missing out if you skip MP Wheeljack. It really has some Masterpiece moments during transformation.

You might want to rethink that one buddy. The size might not be MP, but the price certainly is. In my opinion, they are not worth the price they are currently going for online and plus you can not tell if someone will send you a KO version instead since thee have been KO's to death. My advice is to just get the KO since at least you know what you are getting and not paying a crazy fee. I am not for encouraging KO purchases, but in this case, the primary market is sold out so it's not like anyone in the supply chain of official products will be missing out of money.

Not entirely true. Chimung still has them. Expensive, but not eBay expensive. And they're the real deal.

All that said, if money is an issue then maybe go for the KO's like I suggested to Cobs.

I never once said that I wouldn't spring for a KO. However, my only worry for getting one is that it might be of terrible quality.

EDIT: And Cram, I probably will get him at some point, but this list is just a starter.

The KO casettes have been vouched for, they are not of bad quality. You can look at youtube reviews for proof.

Also thanks Shajaki! I had forgotten about CHimungmung.

Hooray!! :KREMZEEK: I've been having a lot of fun transforming my figures lately, and his transformation just FEELS special. It's hard to explain. It's never frustrating (like getting all of the panels to snap together in altmode for Sideswipe) and always fun. Can't wait to receive Ironhide and Road Rage to try them out! I also just transformed Alternators Rodimus for the first time last night, it's my new favorite figure.

DS. I think you have a good list. Don't know anything about those 3P figs but, they sound nice. Most important thing is you get what you like and makes you happy! :-D

Cram, which mold is Alt Roddy?

Dudes, I had time last night to open up Onslaught and Sky Lynx. Onslaught is all that and a bag a chips.
Sky Lynx is awesome too. He is a little flimmsy and loosey goosey, as is the case with the current quality, but what a funky cool freak bot. The feet in robot(?) mode are kind os sucky as they can't hold up his weight. Mostly his back feet. But MAN OH MAN, this torso mode is bomb diggitilicious. His silouette is just dope looking, and he has all that sweet sculpted detailing. Head sculpt = Le sauce de awesome! I haven't had time to jam any limbs on him yet, but I'm thinking the White Knight limbs. :-?

Doubledeck is a redeco of KFC's Transistor (Blaster) that appears to share some tooling (mostly the chest) with MP-13, while Devil Star is a retool of Toyworld's Evila Star, but with a new, more G1 accurate head. Plus, both of them are cheaper than the originals (or in the case of Doubledeck, actually in stock on BBTS).

Ya know the only minor complaint about that Astrotrain I have heard is his size is funky. Too small for MPs. Too big for Classics. I think that even came from Billy Jim. Doesn't mean you shouldn't get him. I have 3 of the Toyworld Dinobots and really like them.

I don't need him to be a certain height. All I want is for them to be within an inch or two of each other, and (looking at images online) that seems to be the case

Cram, I am right there with you. I dont know what it is about Wheeljack but yes, he feels special. He is my second favourite car transformer of all time (hell yeah, that's a list).

You got Alt Rodimus? nice! He's a tough one because he was only released exclusively and has been KO'd so I dont know how to tell if it's the right one.

And Cobotron, Rodimus uses the Alt Mirage mold.

Oh Cram, I cant find it anymore, could you send me a PM of that pic you posted of your MP 9 which finally just gave way? I was using your previous one for an article but this one brings the point home way more.

I think he scales fine in a classics collection, depending on how you see Astrotrain. If you see him as a big Brute (which he was in the God Complex episode) then he can be next to voyager Megatron, if you see him more as seeker scaled, then he fits perfectly with Leader Megatron. Of all the characters, Astrotrain was the one with the most inconsistent scale due to his mass shifting, so he works if you want him to. I dont pose him with other figures though, aside from this other 3p I have. You can judge for your self on the scale:

Image

And yeah, that would mean he would scale hella good with leader Megs. I should get on to that, might post more pics later.

WJ88: Wheeljack is just great. I can't stop transforming him! More so than 'Bee or the Datsun bros!

And I've actually had Alternators Rodimus since he came out! For some reason, I just really liked the Ford GT mode and never got around to transforming him..for almost NINE YEARS (I really can't believe it's been that long)!! He's actually really solid and it makes me question parting ways with anything from the Alternators line, I'm thinking of searching for Hound and Mirage! Proportionally he just works, pretty posable too, and this is one case where I prefer the USDM vs the JDM release!

I'll find those pics of the failure point on MP Rodimus and send them your way!

Yes! He's awesome. I really don't know why I never transformed him. So much fun. I really wouldn't mind getting Mirage (and thus double-dipping on the mold) to have a "regular" colorway. And he looks awesome too!

I'm glad to hear Sky Lynx is awesome. I can't wait to get my filthy paws all over him.

I've been trying to spend more time in the botcave.

I've been trying to spend more time in the botcave.

Take a guess which toy is the number one place in the most difficult transformers of all time list I have ready (and that wont see the light of day for a year probably): Binaltech Grimlock. That takes me a looooong time to Transform everytime.

But you know who else? ToyWorld's Evila Star. Dear Lord! I spent a lot of time in the Botcave tonight, taking pics of Evila Star with a bunch of other bots and transforming him took as much time if not more than transforming all of the other bots from vehicle to robot mode (I have everyone transformed in vehicle to save space in boxes). ANd its not because he is hard, he is just really finicky. Pieces will pop off and not at a joint, but at the actual pin, which is terrifying. I forgot how much time he took. Well, I did it, and here is an intensive look at how he scales with a ton of toys. You will notice that he scales well with most anything depending on how you view astrotrain. If he is a big Brute, then he works in classics, especially with the recent leader class figures. If you see him as smaller than Megatron, like the size of a seeker, then he is perfect with MPs. And if he is a brute then he scales well with MP Grimlock. Also, he looks gorgeous standing next to Universe Onslaught. Anyways, here you go!

Also, since I had them both out, I thought it was time I took a comparison shot of the 2 Seeker molds. Its crazy but due to a raincheck, both of these cost the same amount at Toysrus.

This image was exactly what I was looking for. I really wanted to see a good comparison between him and MP-11, and this was what I was hoping for.

Anyway, as for Sky Lynx, I really like him. The only thing I don't like is the looseness of the legs and torso. Otherwise, Sky Lynx/Reign gets my Official Decepticon Sunstorm Seal of ;)^ .
