Breakdown 2099 wrote:G1 Bruticus will always be awesome for me simply for the nostalgia value. I grew up with these guys. However, if G1 isn't your cup of tea, you may be dissapointed. Here's my 2 cents: FoC much more complex transformation, G1 has about 4 steps for each limb. Size wise G1 stands from his feet to head at 22cm, FoC come in at 29cm. Due to the size of FoC members being larger, G1 may seem a bit anemic. However, proportion wise, due to G1 onslaught being a voyager'ish size figure, his limbs don't appear as large as FOC.

Truth to this?
Nemesis Destron wrote:I own the Encore version and even though I don't have a basis for comparison it is a great G1 combiner. To own him is a definite case of nostalgia being born in '77. The Encore release is a bit pricey so if you can find him at a good price new or used you won't be dissapointed.
Should you decide to pick him up try to get your hands on WST Shockwave (Military Operations Commander) to add to Bruticus...pretty freakin' cool dude!
fenrir72 wrote:Quality wise, in the Encore (okay I also own one too) the most glaring mold degradation is Onslaught. The rest aren't too bad. And his (Bruticus') shoulders don't lock in place unlike the earlier 80's releases.
But still worth purchasing if you don't own one.

The original G1 Bruticus I bought for $125 WITH SHIPPING off of someone on EBAY just arrived and it is NEAR MINT!
I have never seen a G1 figure purchased on EBAY be THIS near perfect, ...and in this case, 5 figures!
Gosh, I love when Ebay gamblin' works out in your favor.

So basically put, replacing Encore Onslaught with a vintage one is the way to go.
fenrir72 wrote:Though this mold is said to use the Baldigus/Ruination version, could anyone confirm whether or not the Baldigus/Ruination "Onslaught" can lock his shoulder in place?

I've got Ruination packed away somewhere, and even though it has been a while, I don't remember him having locking shoulders... Could be wrong...

When you transform Onslaught into the torso for Bruticus, like Golion, you twist the arms(truck cab) backwards. The notches on the joints clicks a bit to prevent them from flopping down. Once you connect the "arm" components and swing them up, Onslaught's pseudo shoulders shouldn't swing up at the same time(that's for the 1985 version). In the Encore, the arms don't lock up so when you swing the arms (Vortex and Blast off), Onslaught's arms/Bruticus' shoulders also swing up.
As JZGR mentioned that this was obviously from the Baldigus/Ruination mold( the weapon combine and shield/ramp merging back pack feature), I'd like to know from your end if this is also the case for Ruination/Baldigus.

A case of improving the mold when in reality actually degrading it.
