I've fine with the Siege figure. Like with most Siege figures I think of him as his past Cybertronian form rather than his '80s "future Earth vehicle" form (or at least that's how I see all of the movie and later car designs).

It's not just the vehicle that is wrong. The bot mode too. He don't even have the right head!
So for me, it's not Crosshair, but his "brother" or something.

Since this line is supposed to be about cartoon accuracy then you should recognize that as his cartoon head (which I prefer, it sets him apart from the other Targetmasters like it did Triggerhappy).


What was also used in the toy commercials.


And the Marvel comics.


I'm guessing that's the design they were originally working with, but then changed the toy face too late for everything else to change with it (or Hasbro simply forgot to tell everyone else it changed).

Once again, the cartoon did what it bloody wanted. In that regard, the Siege one is indeed perfect.

Call me an oddball, but I would really want a TOY accurate modern update to G1 Ironhide. Odd proportions, sled, and flat "head" behind the windshield and all!

Truth be told however, this is one of a few rare instances where I actually prefer the look from The Rebirth/U.S. Toy commercial as opposed to the actual original toy/Headmasters anime look. Usually I prefer the latter.

Everything just has to come full circle one way or another. Incidentally, I love mine as the weapons geek he is, he's the first I try new weapons on. First Cog, then Firedrive (for the Pinpointer redeco I still want, but missed out on) and then the Fossiliser weapons. What will be next?

On a different note, wouldn't it have been neat if they had made another Megatron as Voyager class Weaponizer that could combine with Voyager class Optimus Prime into Gilthor?

And, for those wondering, yes, "Gilthor" is his name. We finally have official confirmation from his creator, Masumi Kaneda, on how to spell his name in English (the "h" is silent, so it is still spoken like "gill-tor").

No I know who the character is I'm just weirded out by the 'proper translation' after having called it Guiltaur for years.

Masumi Kaneda answered on Twitter. He said he named it after an evil submarine from an old Japanese series called National Kid, with the name itself coming from the given name "Gil" and the god "Thor" (though, spoken like the archiac "Tor" pronounciation).

Didn't know where else to put this that people here would see it, but since the above news was put in this thread, I figured I might as well share this here since it is a similar revelation.

Well, like with Gilthor above, we FINALLY know what his name means! Masumi Kaneda revealed on Twitter that his name is a combination of the words "violence", "giant", "Gigantis" (an alternate English name for Godzilla), and "jaguar". He's a violent, gigantic, ferocious predator, he's "Violengiguar"!

Kaneda also wanted him to have a long name, バイオレンジャイガー, like how long the word "Transformer" is when written in Japanese: トランスフォーマー

Now I feel like I've got my own "Revenge of the Jedi" poster. I mean I don't know what VIz' track record is of going back and correcting things if any of their manga is reprinted to correct translation errors, but it's still kind of neat.

Yeah, it's a shame this discovery wasn't known about sooner. Kaneda made the Tweet back on February 28, 2019, but Viz used the longstanding fan spelling in their translation since they didn't know about the Tweet.

It seems that the translator prioritized names in the manga like so: Hasbro names first, then packaging Romanizations for those who lack Hasbro names, and then fan Romanizations for those who lack either. Violengiguar happened to fall into the latter category, being a non-toy Japanese-original character.

Crosshairs' cartoon head was also on one toy concept art, seems to have been the originally-intended head. Someone evidently vetoed it late in the original toy's development in favor of a humanlike face.

And I still say it couldn't have, because the tender - which gives the Decepticons something quasi-comparable to ER Optimus' trailer - was probably a significant part of the impetus for doing his aft in the first place. And the extra bits from the Leader pricepoint had to be able to become something in altmode.
Also, IMO the robot mode didn't need a higher piece count so much as it needed its pieces to convert differently. And maybe to abandon having full-length feet, because those seem to have factored a fair bit into the shift of the collapse points compared to the original toy, which is what messed up the shuttle mode aft and caused the gauge thing you hate so much.

It works as a shield better than it does a backpack.

Can't tell for the Micromasters, but why do this for Megatron? What altmode would you give him? I do hope you plan to customize the normal "unpainted" version at least.

The short answer is no. Nightflight from ASP was in the Target 10-pack, though it uses the Visper mold, which isn't a great likeness. I think a few of the teams ended up with 3 of the 4 G1 characters, but I don't think any had all 4, though I could be wrong.

Edit: that's definitely wrong, the Decepticon Race Track patrol was complete. I'll need to look up the others now.

He will never be in tank mode anyway, as I like to display my figures in robot mode, except for a select few.

I'm planning to paint my Siege Megatron's head black for Marvel Megatron, just like David Willis did. I would use 35th anniversary for that, but I didn't get that version.

I want to keep one of the Netflix versions intact as IDW2/Netflix Megatron, I don't know what I should do with the other.

Well if you want him to be Marvel accurate, you'd have to paint his lower torso red as well, and probably parts of his legs a different color too.

The ribs are easy enough, but I wouldn't mess with the legs. I don't need a perfect likeness, and he doesn't turn into a handgun anyway.
