perfect. its big and awesome looking as well

It's a leaking can of jet fuel. It looses half of its fuel before completing a take off. Immediately after take off, it has to refuel in the air. And then accelerate to supersonic speed, to be able to expand and seal the leaks.

I don't think Megatron would enjoy playing Bumblebee's "leaking" antics.

He's an alien jet, I don't think he need worry about refuelling.
But I'm not going to let this conversation degenerate into ANOTHER "Do transformers need engines?" debate.

Moving on, I think he'd look great as a Blackbird, though with his angular robot mode the black would make his movements almost impossible to follow on screen.
And to be honest not many people outside the military (and, of course, enthusiasts) would look into the sky and go "Oh, it's a Blackbird! What's it doing, they were discontinued?"
Anyone who knows it's no longer in use is more likely to just pass it off as some millionaire nutter restoring an old SR-71.

I agree Transformers have their own powerplants, they don't need to rely on a human engine design. The outside is only a shell, the only limitations would be the properties of the airframe as every airframe has its own limitations in certain areas.

But what I want to know is what would happen if a US airborne patrol would of sighted a flying SR-71? Also where would Megatron hide or blend in at when not in transit? That puzzles me.

But isn't that the whole point of this topic? :?:

I thought TF's took earth modes to blend in the environment?

Did I misinterpret that?

Exactly my point, i dont think megs gives a damn about not being seen. The other cons did because they were trying to find the cube without being detected so it would make things easier, now they aint looking for anything to need such great disguises, it looks to me like it could just be an all out war now. but hey, megs is dead anyways, so whats it matter

Not always:
Protection from Energon radiation - Beast Wars, Spotlight Shockwave
Want of a powerful alt modes - Dinobots
Some modes give way to new abilities/weapons - Depth Charge - let's him go underwater, Movie Brawl - gets a huge new arsenal of weapons to play with, Jetformers can fly
Allows for faster travel - Cars, Jets, Cheetahs, etc
Sometimes they're made alt mode first - Animated Dinobots, Despensor, Xbot360
Sometimes they evolve into them - Beast Machines, Animated Soundwave, Beastformers in TF:Cybertron (?)
Staying in alt mode allows for internal repairs - Beast Wars

And in the odd rare case, an alt mode allows for "autopilot" and/or eating - Unicron

And lets face it, sometimes alt modes are just more fun - Beast Wars' King Kong vs Godzilla references, Fuzors, Waspinator, Starscreams F-22 chase in the movie, and actually transforming a figure.

Alt modes; not just robots in disguise!

TF Animated has a nice idea.

Megatron transforming into an attack helicopter.

Weapon: Static Laser Gun
Maybe Megs would be the only character to keep his Cybertronian alt mode so that he remains untainted by the lowly earth creatures influence.

He should command his minions to maintain Cybertronian forms too.

Then this will be a sad story for toy collectors.

I always thought Megatron would be an awesome placemnt cannon.

Think about it, transformered bloast ing a hole in the Autobots front line as his assaulting troops swarmed from behind him.

It kinda stays true to his roots too.

Unfortunatly the site wont allow me to upload a real nice concept pic at the moment.

Um...
That's what he did in the movie.
But I do like that idea.
Megs would have to be something really, really special if he was to have an Earth Mode.

My guess is that since the returning Tfs will proll all be getting new forms (new toys) we proll will see Megs getting an earth form. IMO something similar to the earth mode he is going to have in TFA might not be bad, or they could just make him a tank, like in G2.

I'm still getting used to the fact that the 1986 movie takes place 3 years in the past now.

Why not have Megatron be an Aurora jet?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora_aircraft

The basic design is all we know -- delta wing built around a massive fuel system.
Bay & Crew could have fun designing it, and no one would be the wiser if they were a bit off.

And then there's that whole Mach 7 thing...
Sic vis pacem, para bellum.
Autem semper audi alteram partem.
Et facere et pati fortia Autobot est.

I think this may have been suggested before, but since Bay said no mass shifting, I think it would be cool to see him as this: The Schwerer Gustav German rail gun.

A-10 the issue- total length 53ft-4in. - and the main gun would just be a little bigger- sorta like starscreams arms -for missiles-

wasn't he first going to be some bomber? i forget what one it was, but i remember reading that he was going to be that, then he showed up as his cybertronian form, sooo if he was going to have one, im pretty sure it would be that.

mass shifting- what about when frenzy's head scanned the cell phone- there was no way ,that whole head was going down to that size of the cell phone- and what about the cube in the end- if the cube can do it -(mass shift)and this is where they were born from then ? well i just thought i'd throw that out there- so megs feel free to pick the A-10 or that su-27 that is a good one to- but going to need a good story for that one. to get him in it.
