Information black out. Getting old now?
- Motto: "I still function!"

I'm sure others will disagree with this, but is anyone besides me getting a little tired of the lack of information being let out for this movie? With Transformers, we had a teaser a full year in advance and the full trailer at the beginning of December 2006. We'd also gotten some interesting info about the robot modes and other such stuff. There was also the site visit by Ain't It Cool News at the desert set.
Now we roll on to number two, and we have nothing. Some filming wraps from around the world and some random cars that may or may not be Transformers on the set. As far as we're all concerned, any robot modes besides Soundwave are false or rumored at this point. To be honest, it's getting old. I need info soon because I'm really not excited for RotF at this moment. They've done nothing to raise some hype. Nothing to get the fandom or regular people talking.
So, do you think they're doing this on purpose and are planning an all out sensory explosion soon, or do you think they have nothing to show us at this point?

I think there was too much info about the last movie. The script was leaked, we knew what robots were going to be in it, we knew what they looked like, we even knew Bumblebee changed alt modes. I already know more than I want to about the next one, so I'm not complaining.

There was too much information a half - 1/4 year ago, and the different sources leaked different informations, I think this was directly to know and cut the sources of the leaks.

The lack of anything is getting annoying...
but, if Josh Nizzi is to be believed, there is a full trailer doing the works behind the scenes atm.....How longit'll stay behind the scenes (of if he's not messing with us) is still to be determined.

Re: Information black out. Getting old now?
I'm impressed how effective the misinformation campaign has been, the fact that we are assuming we haven't had anything of the sort we had with TF1 proves it is working.
We have had concept designs, we have had script and story leaks... they could be true for all we know (at least the designs) but no one believes any of it!
I think it is a good thing, certainly in regards to the script and the story. As far as designs are concerned, all this will just make the first trailer even more awesome than the first film's proper trailer!
Patience is a virtue...
Even though I can't wait either

Re: Information black out. Getting old now?
They are really being quiet about this one. Let's look at some other movies for example:
Teaser trailer for Watchmen came out before The Dark Knight, about 9 months before the film's release. A load of posters came out in August, 8 months before the film's release.
A teaser trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine was shown at Comic-Con in August, 10 months before the film's release.
Character posters for GI JOE were also shown at Comic-Con in August, a full year before it's out in theatres.
The '07 Transformers movie had one teaser trailer and a three posters an entire year before its release.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen did not even make an appearance at Comic-con anywhere. The film is currently 7 months (and two days) away and there has been no trailer, no posters, nothing. The only official recognition we have is the new title on the official website and a preview of the toy packaging.
The way things are going, the only reliable info we're getting is from toy leaks. I remember it was in December '06 that we got our first look at the wave 1 movie figures in package (which effectively gave us our first good look at Brawl, Jazz and Barricade), so maybe we can expect something similar soon, since it looks like the official sources don't want to give us anything.

I just don't get why they aren't advertising the hell out of the movie... or even at all.
Is bay hoping the first movie will be enough to get people to see ROTF?

I saw Quantum of Solace yesturday. I was really hoping to see that ROTF trailer yet I saw nothing. The information blackout is kind of annoying I agree. I just wanna see SOMETHING!
Give me a teaser trailer at least!

A trailer would be really nice right about now.
Something by Christmastime, perhaps.
I'm picturing the ROTF trailer leading Frank Miller's "The Spirit," how about y'all?

I too would like more information, but I doubt we will be receiving any. Regarding advertising for the movie; I fail to see why Paramount needs to be spending the money right now. Transformers is now a know comodity. The first movie did very well. If the second follows in the footsteps of Pirates, it will make even more money than the original. So why spend money to promote a film that does not need early promotion. I expect to see the first trailer around Christmas, but I would not be surprised if if came later.

The only thing that bothers me is that, without leaked information, the crew can't get any informed feedback. With a lot of the choices they made for TF1 without us, the film could have been absolutely reviled. But it was thanks to our input that we got Cullen, No Arcee (something we regret now, admitedly) and whatever else.
While I have a fair bit of faith in the team, I think that there is still something to gain from giving us something to comment on.
As for the information blackout... Eh. I got other things to do. Just busy yourself for the next year with other stuff.

For now I'm avoiding any news whatsoever about ROTF. I've haven't even looked at the new pics of Soundwave or Bumblebee, because I don't want to spoil anything. I felt like I knew too much when I saw the first movie, and that I was going from one familiar scene to the next. However, I can see the argument that the current lack of rumors and excitement could be bad—I'd say that if there isn't some kind of preview by Christmas, it could be a bad sign for ROTF.

I already know more then i want to.... however i cant stop myself from finding out when a new rumor pops up...
where the blackout is conserned it worries mé... fact is that for the average fan nr1 would have stunk whithout some fan input..
jhon X moviegoer doesnt give a crud about who voices optimus prime... the average fan however is gonna have a fit when he would have sounded like .... i dunno? Tom Hanks?
for nr2.... i'm sure jhon X is gonna love it.... but if they get certain stuff compleetly wrong an the count of the fans not getting the change to give theire input it could seriously hinder fan-support.

Optimus Prime had to be voiced by Cullen, because Prime is a pop culture icon. Prime without Cullen could have worked, but why take the risk if you already have a wonderful voice actor.
Fan input is important, because if you don't listen to the fans you risk another Phantom Menace. A movie that has a great opening weekend, but when the voice spreads no one wants to see again. Think about all the Jar Jar memorabilia and toys that spent a decade shelfwarming the toy stores because Lucas wouldn't listen to the fans and went instead with the "It's my Universe and i do whatever the f... i like with it" attitude.
Don't worry about Revenge of The Fallen. It will do all right, US$ 200 million won't go down the dumpster now. On the contrary, expect a heavy campaign from Christmas and on. You can't advertise a movie that will be released on July in November ! That would just confound the audience even more. They have to focus on current movies (i.e.: Madagascar 2) and then they will focus on what will be hot in seven months ahead.
Besides, General Motors hopes are on this movie. They are on the brink of bankrupcy, and they need all the help they can get to save the brand. GM cars featuring as heroes in a live action film ? Awesome. So they won't let this movie without advertisement.
Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the spoilers...

I'd like to see character and toy designs early, but I'll wait until the movie to find out the plot.

what if they did not show anything to us until it hit theaters, and the movie utterly sucks. I have met people who consistently tell me that it will knock the first one out of the water, and it probably will.

That would be suicide for the movie. If they don't advertise it, no one will know when it's released.

Re: Information black out. Getting old now?
I would appreciate having a little more information. Maybe not the flood that was the lead-up to the first movie, but some more info would be nice.
And it could be worse. I heard that originally, the first and only trailer would have been released with Star Trek, which is released May 8th. That would have sucked, having to wait for that long for any sort of trailer. But instead, we got an awesome teaser with the Superbowl to tide us over until a real trailer comes out.

Bay himself apparently said we're going to see a lot of the robots and plot in the next few months. I think the upcoming trailer will show us a lot.

Re: Information black out. Getting old now?
i'm ok with the blackout of information in general. i would simply like to see the designs for many of the characters in the movie. in regards to the first film, character designs were leaked out pretty early. when i first saw them i hated most of them. but i had time to get used to the designs and even come to appreciate many of them before the film was released. i just don't want to go into this movie not having any idea of what to expect, or time to get used to weird bot designs like the constructicon we've already seen.
