Homer wrote:Speaking of EU, I picked up the Quinlan Vos / Grahrk comic pack today. Procrastinated long enough on that one.
Cyber Bishop wrote:Wheeljack35 wrote:I wish I new who these people you guys are talking about
I know only mainstream Star Wars
The only book I ever read was Shadows of the Empire
The books are pretty much considered "mainstream" now.
They are canon as well.

Still haven't gotten it. The figures look cool, but I've only ever read one Vos comic (the one where he has to fight Secura on Honnoghr) so I've lacked any drive to get him.
How well articulated is he?

Really?
Can you point to a source for that?

I can give you the address of local couple comic shops and plenty of people that go to them that read all the Star Wars novels and have described to me how my lack of knowledge about the "mainstream" books makes me that much less of a Star Wars fan.
And after chatting with some on the 501st boards, at one time they only allowed costumes in that were from the movies.
HOWEVER now they allow EU characters because in the Star Wars fandom they have become more mainstream.
501st.com
Look through some of the suits and look for EU characters like clone emperor, Xizor and a bunch more.
Counterpunch wrote:No no, you misunderstand.
What I'm looking for is a statement from Lucas or someone of equal relative importance that has established the EU as canon.
I had understood that Lucas had basically given the green light for people to write whatever the heck they wanted, but had as of yet, not adopted any of it as official (as in the basis for an episode 7).
Senor Hugo wrote:Well, from what I know. I can't, for the life of me, remember where I read this.
But before any Star Wars book is published, Lucas(or someone at Lucas Arts) goes through reads the entire thing, then greenlights it.
The greenlight, I figure, makes it in continuity.
Edit: Found this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expanded_U ... (Star_Wars)#Continuity_and_canonicity
and looks like I was wrong about, in parts, about Lucas reading it and all that.
George Lucas wrote:I don't read that stuff. I haven't read any of the novels. I don't know anything about that world. That's a different world than my world. But I do try to keep it consistent. The way I do it now is they have a Star Wars Encyclopedia. So if I come up with a name or something else, I look it up and see if it has already been used. When I said [other people] could make their own Star Wars stories, we decided that, like Star Trek, we would have two universes: My universe and then this other one. They try to make their universe as consistent with mine as possible, but obviously they get enthusiastic and want to go off in other directions.

Amen. 4-6, is great, 1-3 not so much, but a lot of the expanded stuff is so good. In fact when I buy toys now, a lot of them are expanded universe related items, rather than rehashes of 1-3 characters, or even old favorites like Boba, or the Royal Guard...
That's one of the reasons that a lot of these comic two packs are so cool. New characters for the most part. That's also one of the reasons I like the McQuarrie concept figures so much. It's like a whole 'nother universe of Star Wars characters and ideas.

Well Lucas kind of crapped on them in favor of the Anakin trilogy

Either that or a Battle Pack with Yoda teaching younglings
I'm surprised not to see a young Anakin being reissued.

You see I go with mainstream Lucas thats what will be shown on tv and movies
I have nothing against the EU but since I have no time to just sit and read a book I go with George
