Women and transformers

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

Postby Armgnawer » Wed Oct 03, 2007 7:57 am

Ohgeeze, I was so sad when the original series ended. I snapped up every episode I could when I was a kid, and was ECSTATIC at getting the chance to see the movie in the theatre while visiting big-city friends. I never did have many of the toys, though...we just lived too far out of the way.

I liked that they weren't human, I think. It was on back to back with GI Joe, and I hated that cartoon. :P The dinobots certainly helped, since I was, at that time, also a dinosaur nut.

Then again, I played with My Little Ponies right alongside my transformers... >_>

Wahh!
StarDust uses her Magical Pony Power to blast StarScream into the next room because he stepped on her flowers. She then turns and tramples Skelator to dust because hes just plain ugly. After that she returns to quietly graze.
;;)

Sorry Burn, I'm not stalking you. I'm stalking Moonbase 2!
Mwahhahaha!
Not!!!
I post in threads I find interesting...or just cant resist commenting on.

::Yawms:: Besides I let Kamjiin or my decepikitties do the actual dismembering.

My wife likes Transformers (she watches the show and animated movie with me all the time) and so do my daughters (14 and 2 1/2).
We saw the Transformers movie as a family and all enjoyed it.
My oldest daughter actually has a couple TF’s of her own
My youngest daughter has taken my Cybertron Hot Shot and made it her own.
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

I was already a teen (13 when the cartoon first came out in 1984), but it was a guilty pleasure at the time.

I was also one of the very FIRST teen girls ever to become Transformers fans! Heck, I used to watch He-Man And The Masters of Universe and Battle of the Planets in much earlier years, so what's the difference?

I was hooked because the characters were great and so were some stories, though I couldn't hear them at the time (I am deaf, FYI.)

Moms back then wanted little girls to be frilly pink things who are into sweets, flowers, and babies. /:) But that was because they were buying into the gender stereotype at the time.

Yeah but how do they dress today? As provactively as possible. Frilly pink dresses suddenly aren't so bad. :?

Ew, yeah. Mums should not be dressing their eight-year-old daughters in skirts that show off their knickers and jeans with SEXY written across the arse... =;

No thanks to pop trash like Britney Spears, Bratz dolls, and a whole flood of anime exploiting big-eyed little schoolgirls in undies, young white girls are suddenly the center of the universe - and also a pervert's favorite target.

I can't wait for this repulsive little trend to end. And soon, too. :?

Eh, when the current trend fades, it'll be something else, so why bother getting disgruntled over it?

There is hope.

Me, my friend Ray-ray, and her liitle girl, Twinkie in Walmart looking at Halloween costumes.

Ray-ray::adoringly::"OOHH, look at the princess dresses!"

Me::sigh:: "Yeah, costumes now look a heck of a lot better than those plastic things they had when we were kids."

Twinkie- "Oh, oh, oh, Pirate! I wanna be a pirate."

Ray-ray "but dont you want to be a princess?"

Twinkie "NO! WANNA BE A PIRATE!!!" ::Grabs plastic sword and bashes at the princess dresses:: "Pirate! ARE, ARE, ARGHH!!"

Me and Ray-ray "No, no you dont hit with it like a club, slash with it."

Twinkie "Oh, ok. ARGH, ARGH" ::slash, slash::

Nothing wrong with being girly and enjoying boy stuff at the same time. Hell, my oh-so-manly husband enjoys watching How Clean is Your House?, What Not to Wear, and as of last night, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. So you don't have to be one way or another. Now that said, if I had a daughter, you'd bet I'd dress her in the cutest things. No boy clothes (I mean, jeans are fine, but no ACTUAL boy clothes), but I'd allow boy toys and stuff.

I've gone through different phases in life, and as an adult I'm a healthy mixture of feminine and masculine. I just got Devastation today, and I'm also looking forward to my next issue of Cosmopolitan. I have Ponies next to my Transformers. And as I've said before, one day I'll be wearing bows and lace, and the next a t-shirt with Starscream. Why not have the best of both worlds?

While I hate to admit you are somewhat right, I have always vehemently disliked the lolicon element in Anime. But every time someone blames Anime for the sexualization of today's female youth... it gets me very depressed and a little part of me dies. =/

For every gross borderline insult that comes out of Japan, there is a lot of good material, even on the school theme, that does not cross that line. I hope that you don't judge it too harshly.

But I feel I must apologize for the rest of the fandom. I'm sorry.

Some of the dresses and whatnot people wear these days just stun me. I work dresses and skirts when I was little. I got a huge graze up my leg when I slid to first base playing baseball in one... but if I had a daughter, no way in hell would i permit some of the things that peopel let their kids wear.

No joke. You haven't seen what some pre-teens are wearing these days?

Short skirts, short tops, push up bras, provacative words blazened across what little clothes they were.

And then they're allowed out in public. :?

And it's all 80's styled again now. :-x

Personally I'd burn all of it, and make them go back to wearing plain old tshirts and singlets.

It can't just be blamed on anime...Heck I dont think the blame should be anymore on it than on Hollywood movies, and TV.

The real fault lies in the parent on that one. But now, more than when we were growing up, parent want to blame anything and everything but themselves for how their kid turns out(it did happen then, like with parents blaming D&D and metal music). They'd rather blame the teacher for their kid failing a grade or a test than consider the idea that maybe they should have taken a vested interest in making sure their kids were learning ahead of time and trying to encourage and help them learn. Notice I say help and encourage not do their homework for them when Ive also seen parents do and trust me that doesnt teach the kid a blasted thing but to run to mommy and daddy if things get even a little bit hard, because they'll take care of it for them.

And then parents are shocked when their little darlings pregnant at 9, or thrown in jail for killing other students.

I don't blame Anime one bit.

From what i've seen the ones to blame are "Cosmo" and "Cleo". Dunno if they're available outside of Australia but they're your typical woman's monthly magazine filled with tips on how to snare men and how to be complete and utter sluts.

And there's no age limits on these books so they're readily available to young girls.

Frankly if a young girl is into Transformers it's more than likely a good thing!

Those things have a sealed section too, (my gf used to get them, but then she started scrapbooking and the only positive from that damn hobby is no more Cleo, Cosmo, Vogue etc) and the seasled sections are very graphic, and as Burn said, they have no age restrictions. I think the tween aimed mags like Girlfriend and Dolly are even more to blame that the teen/young 20's magazines though.

That and parents who want to be friends with their kids, more than parents.

Cosmopolitan is most definitely an adult magazine and it's up to parents to make sure their kids don't get ahold of it (though if a teen is old enough to drive themselves to go buy it, they are probably having sex by then). I've been subscribing to it, Marie Claire, and Glamour for years now, and I love my magazines. All but Cosmo don't really have what I may consider a permissive view of sex, and I wish Cosomo would change that, but I enjoy the magazines as a married woman that doesn't hook up every weekend with a different man as well (also, a lot of women that do that don't read Cosmo and the like at all!). There are some good things about them that isn't all about sex. Plus I'm an adult and I can read what I damn well please.

If I had a daughter, no way would she be wearing that trash we see. I'm very selective on what my children can wear, and my girls would wear tasteful, pretty clothing that is in no way revealing or exploitative.

ack! Those were the two I meant actually.

I've looked through a couple of them, I can't believe that sort of thing is permitted into a teenagers hands.

Okay sure, they can find much worse on the internet but these are available in newsagents with no age limitations.

In Qld it's law for the likes of People, Picture, Playboy etc to be on the highest shelf away from minors as they're given a restrictive classification.

Yet GF, Dolly, Cleo etc, while not as graphic, are probably far more explicit in words.

Heck I just went out for lunch, school holidays ... summer weather ... suffice to say I had to keep reminding myself it was school holidays and that I was probably perving on a bunch of minors that looked bloody 18+! :-x

But at least the weather where you are makes wearing less clothing make more sense. Im enjoying my trips home on the train, hearing all the schoolkids cry out from sunburn pain everytime the train lurches. :D

It seems the only thing the girls wear in winter to keep them warm are knee high ugh boots. And they look stupid when worn with mini-skirts and belly showing singlets.

Rules are the same everywhere, Playboys and whatnot need to be put wrapped in black plastic to obscure all the covers. Cannot say the same for the womens mags with Words that are blocked by Siebertron's filters written all over the cover.
