If you want dark Transformers read the comics. If you want cheesy 80s fun watch the cartoon. If you want something that is supposed to appeal to everyone (and we know these types of movies appeal to children as well) then watch the movie. Each has its merits and downsides. It's kinda like Star Trek. You have the light-hearted stuff (TOS, Next Generation) and the darker (DS9 and Voyager, to an extent). Then you have the god-awful (Enterprise). Something for everyone!
When Transformers is good, it's awesome. When it's bad...

I love where he claims to have gone in with an open mind then goes on the typical Hollywood bashing rant. He decided before he ever went to the theater that he hated the movie and looked for every tiny thing wrong just to prove his point.
Everyone that truely went in with an open mind and no expectation found something enjoyable about the film. It wasn't perfect. It was no epic or instant classic. It was a good old fashioned popcorn flick. Ment to veg out to and be enjoyed. But some people expect to much.

No...I think he has some valid points, like it's annoying when you're camcorder battery dies when you're on a roll.

He's right. It sucked.
That statement is gold, pure gold.
I honestly don't know how anyone in their right mind who is a huge fan can not be pissed off at that film.

Not really, I've been a fan of Transformers my entire life and I love the movie.
And last I checked, I am in my right mind.

Except this is Harry Potter movie #5, this was Transformers movie #1
The first Harry Potter film, if I remember, was more goofy and childlike... film series tend to get darker as they go, they usually don't start off very mature, especially when they're based on children's franchises to begin with, as is the case with Transformers and Harry Potter.
They tend to mature as the audiences do, over time.

how do you explain batman forever and batman and robin
oh wait, that director sold out that franchise too....
guess we see a pattern here
my only hope at this point is maybe if bay is not the director and the studio doesn't try to whore the movie we might get a good final product for part 2

he may have been a little over the top but i totally agree with most of his points. but having said that, i expected the kind of movie it was so i really wasn't surprised at all. it was typical bay. all his films have the same basic crappy formula. it's just a waste of time getting into all the things that sucked and what should've been different but i can totally relate to how he feels. the bottomline is he's an old school fan like a lot of us here and he's just hugely dissapointed as am i. all i can hope for is PLEASE have a completely new team for the sequels.

Actually, a Japanese movie would have the transformers portrayed in rubber suits with jets on strings and absolutely no sense of pacing... and I liked the cliche patriotic American music. Also, no point worth debate is helped by poor grammar.

I just watched this and I'm just wondering, what in the world was this guy expecting?
It's like he wanted a horror movie or something. The thing was not ALL of the transformers wanted to destroy humans and the one's that did want to WERE scary (to the poeple in the film anyway). I mean, it's based on a children's show, there was no way it would have ever been as dark as this guy wanted it. It also wasn't as "family film" as he described. I disagree with him on other points to but I'm to lazy to type that much.

Now now Veep, Kalon is clearly a bigger fan than you are and you shouldn't disagree with his obviously superior opinion.

roy_flagg00, I've seen you specifically commenting on how much you hate the film in several threads. I'm not challenging your right to an opinion or anything, but I'm just curious if you've written anywhere in the forum on what you would like to see in a tformers movie. Seriously if you have any thoughts on a plot synopsis or whatever, I'd be interested in reading it...
*edit* I just watched this guys embarrassing youtube video. I use the term "embarrassing", because he seemed so pissed off and emotionally invested in the topic that he looked like he might burst into tears at any moment...
