Yeah, TFC's not-Razorclaw is frickin' huge in bot mode. That would definitely bug me a lot more if I were planning to ever keep him in bot mode, but I'm really buying the set for beast modes and combined mode (of course), so it doesn't really phase me.

The size of TFC's was actually one of the reasons I considered it. My TF collection is now mainly MP and 3rd party. I'm done with Hasbro other then that (except for that damn hot ass springer and sandstorm! and maybe YOS Omega supreme...) So the larger scale of Ares makes him a bit more formidable to MP10 and such. especially with warbotron on the horizon, were gonna need some larger gastalts. I guarantee warbotron is going to be a catalyst in scaling from here out. On the other hand, I would piss a penny on UT's stupid warlord. that crap looks like crap! The combine mode is the only way to display him cuz the bots suck. Unless your a G1 purist. Warlord SUCKS! ....just to be childish

I'm a classics collector, so TFC's size is a negative for me. Warbotron's too, actually. MPs are tempting, but they're just too big and costly for me.

Yeah, I hear ya. For some reason, even though I collect Classics (and that's where my TFC Predaking will be going), I kinda loathe the Classics Deluxe size class, particularly for most of the combiners. I prefer Voyager size (which both MMC and TFC fit pretty well into, save for Nemean). I mentioned in the Ares thread that I cancelled my preorders for Warbotron though, which had a little to do with the size but more to do with the fact that I'm just not that impressed with what the combined mode looks like at this point (maybe painted/correctly colored versions of the other figures will sway me back, but for now it's off).

I collect MPs as well, but so far the only 3rd party MP I own is Quakewave and I've no plans to put any other 3rd party figures in with my MPs at this point.

I guess I just like the way the larger combiners stack up against Classics figures (both Deluxe and Voyager) because of how huge they usually looked in the show (even though it made NO sense most of the time ).

I collect Classics & MPs - I sold off my Prime and Movieverse toys long ago, except for the ones I could shoehorn into Classics, and a couple outstanding Leader/Human Alliance figures that get their own little display.

I do love how 3rd Parties supplement and round out my more populous Classics shelves, but can't get in that boat for MPs. Besides for some Dr. Wu Energon Cubes, my MP collection will remain official. Outside of issues of limited funds, I feel little risk in buying 3rd Party figures for Classics, because by an large, Hasbro and Takara simply will not or cannot surpass most 3rd Party figures in the Generations line. Especially the gestalts. MPs are another story. Quakewave looks stunning, but if an MP Shockwave is released, it will be just as nice if not better IMHO. Same with Huffer, Skyfire, and any other G1 character.

Warbotron (as a gestalt) is straddling the line between MP & Classics scale, so I can't get behind it. Besides, as nice as their Blast Off looks in bot mode, that combined Bruticus just doesn't appeal to me.

Back to Feral Rex - I'm pretty obviously in the MMC camp. I think their bot and combined modes are the most well-designed and coherent of the 3 options. Beast modes are give or take, but I believe on par with TFC and heavily based on personal preference.

As far as classics size goes, I have to admit I have no idea which way I'll go; I have the FP sized ones, but I also have Herc and Uranos and really like that size; I'll probably get their Defensor eventually. But TFC's Predacons and Warbotron just break the size bank. At least for me. Voyager sized components are my limit, I think. When you go for Ultra and beyond it's too big.

Circling back to MMC, I feel that it's a good size. Big, but not so big that he's/they're oversized.

yea. the reality of size and scale pretty much went out of the window the first time I saw megatron transform Into a gun and flip into the hands of star scream. lol. Although the pistol megatron is still my favorite and only true megatron altmode....in my opinion anyways. lol. but I never understood why Starscream didn't just take that opportunity to remove the slide and firing pin thus decapitating and gutting his master in one fail swoop! lol

I think MMC should go the TFC route. By creating extra parts in Add-on kits For Feral Rex. Because I can't get over how ugly that inner face is on Feral Rex. That Indented V shaped mouth just ruins the head. I also think Feral Rex's eye vision needed to be longer & wider. The feral Rex visor is so tiny it looks like Feral Rex is a Cyclops with one eye.

Having the options to buy different Feral rex's head sculpts,more accessories & more weapons. Would please some,like it does for all those TFC combiners buyers.

Disliking the head sculpt is fine. (Personally, I love it!) Saying that there needs to be an add-on set to replace the head implies that there is general dislike for the head. I have not seen that. As Mooncake said, Tsutsukakushi is the only one in this thread that I recall hating on the head so much. I can understand if you would like a different head sculpt, but that is a far cry from demanding one.

I certainly don't want to seem like I am ganging up on Tsutsukakushi. There is a tendency with those posts to make sweeping generalizations, which I am asking to avoid. (And there, I just did it myself. I don't want to turn this thread into Internet Forum Etiquette 101. If you want to know more why I thought you were putting words into my mouth when not specifically quoting me, I'll be happy to take this to PMs so we can avoid further off topic conversation here.)

I can appreciate the views on the aesthetics of Ares. I would definitely agree that the alt modes look more realistic to animals. But as I said early on in this thread, the Predacons never struck me as the type that would care about blending in. After all, a rhino and bull are not predators. Instead I think the Predacons went with alt modes that are intimidating. That's why I like MMC's. Believe me, if I were an Autobot that was standing in front of Bovis and Fortis, the last thing I would be worried about is some semblance of spindly legs. I would be leaking fluid all over myself waiting to be crushed.

And as I said way back then, this is probably the best justification for MMC's beast modes, and one I definitely agree with and take to heart. The Predacons care about bad-assery, not perfectly replicating the features of flesh creatures.

Some have admitted in this thread & the TFC Ares thread. That some prefer the TFC Ares head sculpt better than the MMC Feral Rex Head sculpt.

Given the option of a free replacement MMC feral Rex head. Most would take off the current head & use the replacement head That resembles the TFC Faceplate & bigger eyes visor.

That MMC Feral Rex indented V shaped mouth plate is ugly. I can see most buyers tolerating this but not thinking its beautiful & being 100% satisfied with it.

Some will more or less imply. That who cares about the Ugly Indented V shaped mouth on Feral Rex. As long as other things on Feral rex look superb that's all I care about. The ugly V mouth is a minor thing.

clearly more opinions here are needed on this matter.

It's funny I never bothered to look at the head sculpt, I always just assumed it was the same as G1 Predaking from the cartoon. Well I don't like the "V" mouth plate either because it looks like a jack-o-lantern. But the TFC and UT versions are not my taste. Ill just hope somewhere down the line Dr. Wu, SXS, or Crazy Devy give us some options. They always do...

That doesn't mean that the MMC head is necessarily desired to be replaced. I like the animal modes of Ares better, but that doesn't mean I think MMC should change their designs. (See justification above.)

There you go with the generalizations. It's statements like this that seem to put words into people's mouths. I for one do not like that. While this is not specifically putting words into any one person's moth, it is along that line. Can you rephrase statements like this to say that you would prefer that MMC give us a free head and let others agree or disagree with you?

Personally, I alwaus thought that G1 Predaking had a very small visor. I remember, as a kid, watching the G1 cartoon and wondering where Predaking's eyes are. I see them now, but didn't notice them in the animation or toy commercials.

To be fair,This is the first super clear pic most have seen of the MMC Feral Rex indented V shaped mouth.

Most of the previous on-line pics don't zero in on the MMC Feral rex V shaped mouth. Most of the time it's not the focus & not shown super clearly.
