The choice of colour-mapping seems lazy/uninspired (not the actual colours, as they are par for the course with this character). Some use of metallic purple, or clear parts, etc would have been much better. In fact, this really should have been the obvious clear "Burning" (red) or "White" repaint.
With some actually well thought-out repaints, this whole set might have convinced many fans (who really just wanted Fangry) to have bought it.
Don't know, seen just as many saying they're getting it as those saying they'll pass on it. Had I the cash
, I'd have no qualms about getting it.
It's a good set. It is obviously set up to appeal to some, and not to others. The set is literally called "WORLDS COLLIDE" meaning it's bringing in different aspects of the Transformers into one set. If I had anything to do with the set, I would have made it more bonkers.
Transformers War for Cybertron: Trilogy Bumblebee GalleryI love Fangry. He's one of my all-time favorite Transformers characters thanks to his (unfortunately) brief, yet memorable, appearances in the Marvel Transformers comics. He's also pretty awesome in the Masterforce cartoon. Yet, because of his brief comic appearance, lack of American cartoon exposure and primary characterization coming from Japanese cartoons, he's not for everyone. I get that. He's also unique that he has a partial organic beast mode which was unusual for G1 characters (is he the only one?). I get that Fangry is not the biggest selling point. I clearly get that he's a winner for me, but not for all.
Transformers War for Cybertron: Trilogy Fangry GalleryThen there's the recolor / remold of Netflix Bumblebee. So many fans want to get the elusive Netflix VW Bumblebee. Not gonna happen for whatever crazy reasons. Demand, corporate politics, supply chain, COVID-19, whatever. It was awesome Hasbro made the VW "Generations" Bumblebee finally after all these years and it's a bummer that so many fans weren't able to get their hands on that version of him. So here comes another version, in more expected colors for Bumblebee, but in Earthrise Cliffjumper's car mold. Ugh. I get it. I think it works for Bumblebee. The orangish-yellow of the Netflix VW Bumblebee I find hard to photograph, so I'll probably be using the Worlds Collide version mostly going forward. We'll see. I do love that Beetle mode on the other one though. Regardless, I get how this version of Bumblebee is divisive as well.
Transformers War for Cybertron: Trilogy Bumblebee GalleryOn to Blackarachnia. It seems a lot of folks don't know from where the inspiration for this version of our favorite femme fatale is derived. It also seems that many fans have forgotten or are unaware that Blackarachnia didn't start out as the gold and black version with the unique face plate that we all know and love from the Beast Wars cartoon. Nope, she was just an alternate colored version of Tarantulas folks. I never thought we'd see her original color scheme ever again. And now here I am wanting to see her Masterpiece toy done in her original colors with an alternate head after her Worlds Collide release. I get that this unique version of Blackarachnia isn't for everyone.
Transformers War for Cybertron: Trilogy Blackarachnia GalleryWhich leaves me with Nemesis Primal. The inevitable evil "Scourge" recolor of Optimus Primal in the Beast Wars world. The black fur is not quite right, as some of you have stated, and I agree. It'd be liked Nemesis Prime being red instead of black. To be fair, the Kingdom Optimus Primal toy isn't truly black, it's like a light black (or dark gray), but it's close enough that Nemesis Primal's black fur is a little too close to set him apart. I keep thinking a gray gorilla or even a white gorilla would've worked better to have "inverted" colors to Optimus Primal. Or they should've scrapped the whole Nemesis idea and just gone for an Ultra Primal or Primal Magnus or something along those lines and done an Optimus Primal recolor in Ultra Magnus colors (or even the dreaded, to me, "Ultra Mammoth" color scheme). Either way, I get that Nemesis Primal isn't for everyone. I like him, but I'm not sure he's even right for me when I think too hard about it.
Transformers War for Cybertron: Trilogy Nemesis Primal GallerySo there it is. It strikes me as a typical 4 pack of figures. There's a little something for everyone and a little something NOT for everyone. If there's something in the set that you don't like, just sell the damn figures you don't want. No one is forcing you to buy the set nor keep all of the figures in the set. It's a perfect set to flip certain figures if you don't want some. Regardless, it's been a few years since we've had a Generations styled multi-pack like this (I think those Titans Return sets were the last ones), and those were pretty damn cool and go for silly money now.
You win some, you lose some. I'm just happy that we are getting such crazy things that we are getting sets like this currently. Sure beats the days of seeing just one or two pegs of new Transformers Beast Wars figures at Toys R Us circa 1997 and only getting about 25 to 30 new figures per year. We are extremely spoiled currently!
