Perhaps JJ wanted to reshoot and tweak and couldn't. Five months is quite a delay, but it's better if the material doesn't suffer.

Oh well. What IS coming out in summer 09 anyway? Perhaps it is a good move...though I doubt it would've died in the Christmas season.

X-Men:Wolverine Origins opens about a week before Star Trek.

And as WJ35 said, TF2 as well. That should be around the end of June.

No doubt there will be other big movies around that time but haven't been announced yet. Disappointing though, as I was looking forward to a Christmas release.

I heard the Wolverine film got pushed back about a week or two also.

DUH MOONBASE2!

I'm not putting much faith in the Wolverine movie. He's my favorite X-Man and I won't get too invested in it. But I will watch if only for the eye candy.

I think Wolverine will do well. Hugh Jackman did a pretty good Wolverine I felt.

But the battle between Wolverine and Star Trek will be interesting. Wolverine will have fans of the three X-Men movies behind it while Star Trek will have it's legion of Trek fans.

It may also come down to who promotes more. JJ Ambrams combined with Paramount is a pretty strong outfit, can Marvel stand up to it?
(As far as merchandise goes Wolverine will win that hands down)

Well, I'm a fan of both so I'll definitely be seeing both movies. I'm just wary of the potential suckage of the Wolverine movie. If they take it seriously it could be wonderful. Wolverine always carried the X-Men movies anyway (though I could've used more of Cyclops and less of Jean and Storm, grumble grumble). Once I see the trailer I'll make any kind of judgement.

I can understand the "low to the ground" aspect if it were just being luanched and leaving San Francisco but the telephone wires made me think it was a fake.

In ST:TMP what we saw was a refiting dry dock and would not be a fair compairason because the ship was already in space....the Enterprise from TMP was the same ship from the TV years but with its extier rebuilt.

A for Generations Enterprise B [and we can assume those after] was built in space dock so the ships would be launched in space.

But according to the dedication place on Kirks Enterprise..... the Constitution class starship Registry number NCC-1701 was built in San Francisco, California.
Image

And as far as anybody knows it could have been flown into space from the grond. They never officially said how the ship made it into space.

There have been novels and tech manuals that said the ship was built in to sepreate parts and asempled in space but those books are never canon and even if they were we dont know if there canon in JJ Abrams" ST universe.

please excuse my speeling tonight....its worse then normal due to some pain meds

I would have thought that you would have seen the teaser trailer for JJ's ST film by now.It shows that the 1701 Enterprise "in fact" being built on the ground.

Here it is if you havent seen it yet.

Wheeljack35 wrote:It was in the 60's dude there would be noway today thinking you would build something that big that has warp technogy on the ground

I dont see what that really has to do with the issue.JJ said that he was going to make this film stick to previous canon.

I dont really believe that he's going to be able to do that but there's no real reason to change the fact that the ship was built on Earth.

And by the looks of the trailer he "did not" change that fact.

Wheeljack35 wrote:Oh yeah the NX Enterprise was built in space

How do you know that???

They never mention where it was built in the entire run of Enterprise, the dedication plaque on the NX Enterprise has no mention of where she was built.....

If your having a hard time seeing that here is what it says:

Enterprise (NX-01)
Enterprise
Spacecraft number NX-01

Sepulveda, L. Rich, C. Russo, J. Nesterowicz - Flight Test Crew: R. Ratliff, P. Albiez, W. Thoms, J. Djanrelian, S. Satterfield, G. Edelman, L.

Betts - United Earth Space Probe Agency: G. Roddenberry, W.M. Jefferies
"... to boldly go where no man has gone before!"

The only thing that was mention about the NX's building is that the warp engines were development at the Warp Five Complex.

We do see the NX at the begining of the serries in space dock being worked on but thats no indication of when and where it was it was built.

Archer made some comments that some of the ships plates buckeled durring test a week earlier.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69MU-JlOAMY

So even thou the NX was officaly launched from space dock I would assume that all Starfleet ships are.But they never said that the NX was built in space.

And according to the shows bible the NX was built at the Warp Five Complex. This is also mention in the "Star Trek Encyclopedia".

And according to the "Encyclopedia" and the Memory Alpha web site the Warp Five Complex is in in Bozeman, Montana.
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Warp_Five_Complex

I dont remember if this was ever confirmed in the serries but Captain Archer once commented on seeing the statue of Zefram Cochrane every time he went to visit his father at work at the Warp Five Complex and that statue was erected near the very spot that first contacted with the Vulcans happened and where Zefram Cochrane launched mankind's first warp-capable space ship, the Phoenix, from a missile complex near Bozeman in central Montana.

For me thats confirmation enough that the ship was at least built in parts on earth.Wether it was assembled and flowen into space as one peace or sepreate parts is an other thing all together.

Not to sound rude but...how can you come to that assumption?

I'm not saying that it wasnt being built on Mars its just that by what was shown it could be any planet. It could even be the Moon for all we know.

By the time the 1701 was built people were living on the moon.

But my point is that what ever planet there on the 1701 is shown being built on the ground.

And knowing that JJ said that the film would be true to canon I can see how or why he would change the place the ship was built.Theres no real reason to change that little fact.

Even if the rest of the story screws canon.

What?

Sorry that was suppose to be

I believe what I see... because what I personaly think would happen in the real world is irrelevant......Star Trek is fiction.

Meaning what I see and hear on Star Trek is what I believe happened on Star trek and where and how the Enterprise was built...and that goes for the others to bear the name as well as the other ships on Star Trek.

And my personal theories about what would happen is a ship like the Enterprise were ever to be built is of little importance to this debate because we've been talking about the fictional story about how the Enterprise from Star Trek was built.
