As far as I know from the offical canon the answer is no.

But if you are asking if its ever been done at all then the answer is yes.

I remember a few comic book stories dealing with a young James T. Kirk as well as a few novels but the novels tend to contradict each other and the comics.

years 2257-2258
The 3 part story from the Novels "My Brother's Keeper","Constitution" and "Enterprise" told the story [from different time periods] of "Lieutenant commander" Kirk Second officer of the U.S.S. Constitution NCC 1700.

year 2258
The Novel "Devil World" & had him as Lt. Commander and 2nd officer of the USS Tresher

year 2258
The Novel "Enemy Unseen" had him as Lt. Commander and 2nd officer of the USS Aeolus NCC-588

year 2259
The novel "Corona" Lt. Commander Kirk served as first officer aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard

year 2259
The novel "Crossroad" Lt. Commander Kirk served as first officer aboard the USS Alexander

year 2260
Comic book "Star-Crossed" Commander Kirk servied as first officer of the USS Eagle....Carol Marcus also servied on this ship and it was hinted this is when their son "David" was consieved just before Carol left Starfleet.

year 2261
Comic book "Loved Not Wisely" Kirk returns to earth and discoverse that he has a son.He is then offered the command of the USS Oxford NCC-751 which he excepts and then asks Carrol to marry him... she refused and demanded that he stayed out of her and David's lives

year 2263
The novel Enterprise: The First Adventure Commander Kirk was in command of the USS Lydia Sutherland with Lt. commander Gary Mitchel as first officer.

Sorry if this is to much info.

You can find all this and more at the Memory Beta Star Trek non canon wiki site.

Yeah the only difference is that Lucus has said that the SWEU is part of official canon....even when it contradicts each other or the movies.

I have a TNG question, so I guess it'll be o.k to post it here:

I just watched Star Trek: Nemesis the other day, and was wondering, how many Soong Androids have been shown to have been built through the series, its seems every time they need one they magically appear. When at the beginning it was said Data was the only successfully functioning one.

Anybody think its at all possible we might see Data again in the future? Yes I know Brent Spinner has said he's ready to move on and that he's aged beyond what Data could conceivably age, but maybe have Data as a CG character just with Spinner's voice.

Also could he ever become Captain or even Admiral? come to think of it has he ever held any other rank besides Lt. and Lt. Cmdr?

Can an artificial life form reach that high in Starfleet command?

Don't forget about his evil twin brother "Lore" which was also in the beginnings of TNG, so it was established that there was at least two even way back then.

In the episode "Redemption" Data took command of a ship with the temporary rank of captain I think it's just that he did not have the ambition to become captain by the time he was 25 so to speak since he lacked emotions.

Also, Data died at the end of Nemesis but his brother "B-4" survived leaving open the possibilities of his character coming back in some way shape or form.

Data
Lore
B-4

Lal who was Data's daughter and a more advanced Soong type Android.

But it was mention that Dr. Soong had created dozens of android prototypes before Lore and Data.

Overcracker wrote:Also could he ever become Captain or even Admiral?

I cant see why Star Fleet would make him the 2nd officer of their flag ship if they felt he could never make it to the level of command.

Data was the 2.nd officer of the Enterprise D which made him 3.rd in command. That kind of postion is not givven to someone that is felt could never proceed to command a ship.

Overcracker wrote:come to think of it has he ever held any other rank besides Lt. and Lt. Cmdr?

He was givven a feild commission to Captain of the USS Excalibur in the episode "Redemption part 2"

He was givven a "temporary" promotion to "Commander and first officer" of the Enterprise D in the episode "Chain of Command part 2" while the Enterprise was under the command of Captain Jellico.

Overcracker wrote:Can an artificial life form reach that high in Starfleet command?

Like I said....I cant see why not. While I'm sure that there will be people against it I dont think that Starfleet has a policy forbidding it.

The did make him 2.nd officer of their flagship and its not hard to amangin that the 2.nd officer of their flagship might someday be become a Captain.

O.k basically only 3 functional Androids in his image, one fake Wife also functional, and unaware that she's an android, and then Data's attempt with Lal.

Interesting about Data's command capabilities. I wonder if we'll ever see an Admiral Data in the cannon.

I suppose they could recreate Data's brain patterns in the Holodeck, and produce a holo Data.

Thanx for the clarifications.
