Number of Character slots in v2?

I like the idea of support characters. Really a couple of my characters would be support troops and many character concepts wouldn't be main line troops. I think you missed one though Burn. Construction types that could make it cheaper/faster to built fortifications.

Though guarding really isn't a support troops as much as the others. Here is an idea though, you can assign characters to guard duty. It could be a pool like the arena is now ,but they are used to fill out missions in they territory they are stationed in that end without filling up. You would have no control over which missions and at the wrong times of the day you could wait for hours until you are placed in a mission especially if lots of people take the option.

I like the idea of scouting/spying missions to get info.

Hey as long as I can bring my ideas to life without killing any characters off I'm ok with them filling support roles.

So anyway, people want more slots because they're full of creativity and want to show off their characters, while others, as Sharpwing so rightly put it, have enough time and 12 TF's is plenty for them.

To me, both seem a little bit (teeny weeny little bit, don't go getting all uppity and offended) selfish.

With V2 taking on a more faction driven style of gameplay, why not use the expanded slots to benefit the faction it's self?

OMNIBOTS AND TERRORCONS

Yes folks! From the bad lands of Energon comes another aspect of TF mythology.

Omnibots and Terrorcons are specialised bots.

Scouts - These little guys go out and scout out the enemy's defenses. They also may engage in combat with Guards.

Guards - Assigned to guard and defend your base (or sector, however OS is going to set it up) against any and all attacks. Think of it as a defense bonus for your sector. Guards may also spot Scout's and engage them in combat.

Medics - Assigned to help cut down cr chamber time. These guys WILL be prioritised to you DEPENDANT ON YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE FACTION'S ECONOMY! The more you support your faction's economy, the better chance you'll have of having your medics pulled from other duty to dedicate to your main bots.

Energon Miners - Like it says, these guys go out and mine energon. Any energon collected is divided up between you and your faction.

Weapons Expert - These guys are dedicated to helping keep the faction armoury stocked up. When deployed they'll spend their time manufacturing weapons.

Armourer - Like a weapons expert however these guys will help cut down install time for armour on the big bots.

You don't have to choose to use any of these guys, however these can fill up the extra six slots. You'll still have your regular lot of 12, but any extra would have to be an Omnibot or Terrorcon to help your faction.

Deployment time will be in one hour intervals, except for Scouts and Guards who may be stasis locked if engaged in combat.

Active slots can be expanded to 9. 6 main bots, 3 support bots.

XP calculated? Bugger if I know, i'll let someone else work that out. :P

So there you have it, expanded slots, and a way to help your faction if you choose to or not.

Man I'm gonna burn in Hades agreeing with burn two days in a row!!! The apocolypse is nigh!!!

I like this Idea.

well i like burns idea, brings a kind of running a government concept to the game, every troop adds to the pool to help the faction. having "support bots" is a good idea IMHO,but the names are kind of funny to me,the last thing i think of when i think of TERRORCONS is a medic, maybe they could be given basic names like drones, and built like a normal TF,buy picking the type, and earning XP from performing duties,to spend XP on upping the said stat,or have it a automatic lvl system which it earns the amount of XP needed and upgrades it's self. but i think a limit should be given on the total # one can have of each type.

but it could just be me on the Terrorcons name in the drones area, having all 5 canon on my team.

Didn't think of it because I have no idea whether we as a faction will build fortifications or if they'll simply be there.

MamaKitty - Jesus Prime will back me up when I say i've had this idea for well over a month when this thread first started. It just took me that long to actually work it all out so it makes sense. So ner ner, you can't accuse me of stalking you this time! :P

Waylander - The only reason I went with Omnibots and Terrorcons is that's what they were called in the Energon series, and even there they were more or less support bots who were only good for finding Energon.

But yeah, it does seem ridiculous to have a Terrorcon Medic.

If anyone can come up with a good way for these guys to earn xp and level up like normal bots then please do. That was always the one problem I had trouble working out.

I just felt like stalking MamaKitty and Sunstar in this thread

you can't accuse me of stalking you this time!

Last time I checked it wasn't an accusation if the person confessed to it. :P

But seriously, I think its a really cool idea; and if I'm having a premonition dream, then I guess things may look pretty good for your idea going through. Or maybe I'm using those mysterious force powers people claim I have? :???:

Honestly? I wouldn't bother with having them earn xp/level up. They could just be static. You could customize them with names, bios, altmodes, etc., for the aesthetic joy of it, but otherwise they'd just come with a uniform set of stats, which, more likely than not, would have no bearing on their support roles anyway.

Option #2 though, which would come into play if the programming actually used their stats somehow, would be to have sets of default stats for each support class, for each level, and their levels would depend on the average level of your main team.

So if your team was level 3 on average, all of the support bots you're contributing to the cause would be level 3. The higher their level of course, the better they do their job, and the more Energon your faction pays out to you for contributing their services.

Needless to say, this becomes an additional means of motivating players to level up faster.

You could also use the weapons' slot to equip them with support tools (laser scalpel for medics, drills for miners, rifles for guards, scanners for scouts, etc.) that improve them slightly.
Check out my books, Titanomachies and Divine Retribution, on my blog!

Or it could be a simple case of you not putting your tin foil hat on and I'M IN YOUR BRAINZ INFLUENCING YOUR SUB-CONSCIOUS! :P

Threw that one at JP when we were first discussing it and he didn't like it. But I do agree, given that their support bots having it based on the rest of the team's average level would work.

We could take it one step further and it based on average number of upgrades.

So if you have 12 main bots with 150 upgrades between them then your 6 support bots would have access (no cost like the main bots) to about 12 upgrades themselves.

And yes, definitely give them their own type of weapons to assist in their specialised field.

Excuse me for chiming in late on this obviously long debated discussion, but I like this idea too. It seems to make the most sense over all, plus it would give more incentive to maintain a more balanced team, level wise anyway.

And Mamakitty, do you think you could use those mystical force powers to get me the answers to my midterms that are coming up? :P

Why yes, they are hidden in your lecture notes and textbooks. :P Go study, and polish up on your BS spouting, and if all else fails, "When in doubt, C out." Which if you dont know what that means. If you haven't got a clue what the answer to a multiple choice question is and you cant eliminate any of the other choices go with choice c, there is about a 40% chance that it will be the right answer due to peoples tendancy to stick the correct answer somewhere in the middle of the choices.

You mean actually study, what's the fun in that? :P

After all, I would much rather put that time into something constructive, like taking over the world with my army of gerbil commandos.
