On the Oil Rig
Smokescreen peered out from behind his cover to see Nightraven rising up into the air. His plan to flush her out of hiding had worked, but perhaps it had worked too well. While still in robot mode, the femme seeker opened fire on Smokey’s position, causing him to dart back behind the large steel girder. The diversion expert was about to return fire when he witnessed Nightraven transform to jet mode and then disappear from sight, having activated her stealth capability. Smokey stepped out from behind the large steel girder and scratched his cranial unit.
Where’d she go? I thought only Skywarp could teleport, Smokescreen thought as a new barrage of laser fire suddenly came down upon the red and blue mech from seemingly nowhere. Explosions erupted around him, taking him by surprise. He leapt back for cover, taking several hits as he once again dived behind the steel pillar. His armored plating had held up well against the laser strikes. Leaning his back against the girder, Smokey heard the roar of a jet engine fly by overhead, but still he saw nothing. He activated his sensor array and still came up empty. The sky directly above was clear.
She must have some sort of stealth ability, the diversion expert correctly surmised. But how do I fight back against an enemy I can’t see? Smokescreen considered this a moment before realizing that the only way to engage Nightraven was to force her to become visible again. Of course! And I got the perfect way to do just that!
Smokescreen targeted the empty sky in front of him with his shoulder-mounted rocket launchers. Nightraven was there somewhere. He was certain of it. Based on the sound of her invisible jet engines he had heard before, this was the only direction she could come at him from. Smokey then unleashed a single missile and watched as it streaked into the sky. He wasn’t actually aiming for anything in particular. He knew the femme seeker would just dodge it with ease. Instead, Smokey just needed the missile to reach the proper altitude.
Once his rocket had done so, Smokey sent a self-destruct signal to the warhead and watched as it exploded into a thousand metallic shards. Each one began emitting an array of magnetic fields and radio signals that would disrupt the guidance systems of any enemy aircraft in the vicinity. Many of the seekers flying about close enough would likely be affected, but Smokescreen only cared about one and that was Nightraven! Hopefully, his rocket’s assorted waves and signals would be enough to bring her down or at least force her out of stealth mode.
Above the Oil Rig
Skywarp watched from above as his missile missed its intended target of Bumblebee and instead slammed into the oil rig, causing even more damage to an already fragile structure. >>Slaggit, Darkride!<< Skywarp bellowed through his comm link as he flew overhead. >>The minibot was mine!<<
The teleporter couldn’t understand why the interrogator would save an Autobot, especially one as insignificant and weak as Bumblebee. Perhaps Darkride simply wanted to torture the minibot for his own personal pleasure. Skywarp, on the other hand, preferred a more direct and quick method of dealing with the enemy. Torturing took too long and was quite often a messy endeavour. Simply eradicate the enemy and be done with it.
As Skywarp came about for another pass, a surface-to-air missile exploded nearby. Fired by the diversionary tactician, Smokescreen, the rocket had not hit anything. Stupid Autobot! What was he shooting at any... ‘Warp’s train of thought was interrupted as his onboard guidance system began to fluctuate erratically. He soon found it difficult to maintain his current trajectory and quickly began losing altitude. His sensors had become inundated with various radio waves and magnetic signals, wrecking havoc on his systems.
Losing all control, Skywarp splashed down into the gulf and immediately transformed to robot mode. “Ahhh, frag it! This salt water’s gonna corrode my circuitry!” Treading water, Skywarp looked back towards the oil platform. He opened a comm link to the other seekers:
>>To all seekers that are airborne. Avoid the east side of the platform. There are radio waves and signals in the air that will disrupt your guidance systems. Be very careful!<<
Letting out a sigh, Skywarp then teleported to the edge of the oil rig and began climbing towards the battle above.
