However, as the author of the "Toy Disintegration..." thread, I have to ask the question "are these things going to hook together in a manner that won't weaken or crack the plastic every time it's done, or are we looking at broken crap in relatively short order?"
Time and experience have made me an "energon cube half empty" kind of guy.

Then again, TF2 was pretty much originally going to be combiners (Prime + Jetfire, the twins, Devastator, Arcee triplets), and then the new toys with little vehicles attaching to bigger ones, so maybe this is where Hasbro is pushing the future of Transformers for the immediate future.

The packaging is way too big for the figures... and since when do first release figures get put into Robot mode?

Don't forget, though, that for packaging test they quite often have a cardboard cutout of the figure in a test package. Similar things happened with Leader Class Jetfire.

Fair enough... I just don't get why a G1 Decepticon Targetmaster is now siding with the Autobots. I know it's just name changing.. but for aesthetics..

While I agree with Blurrz that it doesn't quite look 'real' enough. Test shots like this are quite common. I think it's more of a question where the pic was taken, as I would expect to hear more in short order if it is legit.
Once I ran an Anime festival with over 6,000 attendees. Now... not so much.

Doing all this other crap takes away from what the toy is designed to do. Annoying.
Or, if you want all kinds of stupid new gimmicks, jam them in the movie toys. Don't put them in the Classics/Universe line that is supposed to reference older lines of toys.

Hate to say it, but gimmicks have been a part of the line from day one. Starting with Rubsigns and spring loaded missiles, then in a year it was combining followed by even more the next year, and Triple changing, headmasters, targetmasters, and so on. Having a line referencing an older line (in this case G1) still leaves plenty of room for gimmickry as that line was equally as full of such things. I do agree that in some cases it does extremely limit the design of the figures (I'm looking at YOU, Energon Autobots!) But not all gimmicks are a detriment to the figures themselves.

The Bubble is half covering the autobot emblem, and overlaps the edge of the card on the right side of the pic, most people can photoshop and graphically edit what they want, including the figure cutouts and the loose cardboard at the front of the package, and after looking at a few of my boxes, Hasbro's logo is usually on the back or bottom of the package not the front... so Until we get official word from hasbro and prototype pic leaks, I'm all for taking a huge mound of salt...
Well Power Core Combiners was something that Hasbro said officially.... I'm just with you on the speculation.

Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Seriously, though, the figures look like they're taped to the front of the plastic and the picture on the side looks like a real truck with a CGI cannon planted on it. Also, unless Hasbro is planning on doing something different with this line, figures are usually packaged in alt mode and their robot modes are shown in the boxart.
The concept is interesting, but the picture looks dubious at best.
Also, consider your sources. 4chan is a hangout for trolls and gremlins.

As it has been previously mentioned. many times props like this are produced for shows in advance of actual production which literally can be artwork attached to existing packaging. I'm not saying it's real, but it is completely within the range of possibility that something like this would be produces for a trade show or marketing meeting just to gauge reaction from potential buyers/consumer focus and other means.
And all joking aside if the pic was snatched by a /b/tard I would expect it to be posted to 4chan before a site like this.
We'll see what happens as things progress.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Getting away from the 'real or fake' argument a little, and going strictly on the assumption that this turns out to be legit, anyone else notice how Caliburst appears to be made mostly out of transparent plastic? I hope this doesn't make for wicked stress marks all over the figure after a few transformations. I have more than a few Armada minicons who had similar problems.

THANK YOU!
