Leadership is always an contentious issue, different factions select leaders in different ways so what Chaoslock suggested may work for cons and preds, but not necessarily for bots and maxi's. (or vice versa even)
I think the game would be much better off havin and keeping NPC leaders, then as a player proved they could do the job, the rest of their faction would follow them regardless of who their official leader was.

I agree, even if someone challenged and won, it doesn't mean that anyone will actually follow that person.

Details on this will be given with the previewStryfe Convoy wrote:Gestalt Stuff
Not sure what D&D does. Never played it. But there will be NPCs and they are developed in a way that will alleviate some of our "balance" issues....Another fun thing I'm putting together is a "classics" battle where players can get together and take on the likes of Megatron, Prime and Starscream with their real stats.Stryfe Convoy wrote:NPCs? So this is being based off of basic D&D type rules and whatnot? Cool!
Energon will be very valuable in the new game.Stryfe Convoy wrote:Having weapons cost energon per shot is sort of like giving each gun ammunition, if you use your gun needlessly and hit nothing, you'll run out of ammo. A nice aspect to keep track of.
There won't be "leaders" but rank will not be the way it is now. Rank will determine your actual rank in a faction but it won't be an attribute that makes you any more or less powerful in combat.Stryfe Convoy wrote:Will there be a leader of each faction? NPC or Player? That is the one thing that I think is missing from V1... Yes we are all basically playing for our own teams to be the best we can make then, but what if what your team does actually impact how well your faction operates together?
Your character will be able to do several different things. Missions as you know them now will be one of them.Stryfe Convoy wrote:Will the missions available for your team be based on how much your team has done for the faction it's in?

I'm not sure I understand... if there aren't gonna be leaders, and rank won't affect the power of your TFs... then what good is it? Is our rank gonna change how much we get in terms of resources(i.e. xp, energon, ore, territory or whatever you guys have planned)?

Time has been an issue with me the last couple of weeks. We are moving into a new house over the holidays and I have had to present some of my applications to the executives at work (which has been a very good thing).
I was planning on Christmas but now I am going to try and throw something together this weekend while I have a chance.

I may have missed something, but is this a playable preview (I'd imagine not) or screenshots? Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone get free ice cream.
That's right. I remember the agreement.

I always find a "why?" question when I see this complaint. Why does it matter? Are you only playing for rank? Cause, I hate to tell ya this, but if you ever played any game anywhere, online or offline or even arcade games, odds are, someone has done better at it then you, or is higher ranked. AAA still owns the highest score in every arcade game ever made, is that a reason to not play it? Almost everyone I know has higher level characters in WoW then me, doesn't stop me from playing it when I can. A lot of people have a higher rank then me in Gears 2, doesn't stop me from playing it (the cheaters do though). If you're only playing for rank, then you're playing for the wrong reason.

Re: FACTS - HMW2 Thread
I love the idea of there being faction and sub-faction leaders, if it's not incorporated into the game I don't think it would be too hard for us to organize, we would have to have a strict set of rules that each faction would decide ie Cons most powerful, the Autobots could have a vote or matix holder, Predacons - TriPredicus council the same goes for sub-factions.
The prize could just be braging rights or a crown or symbol or it could be, if possible, something like creating missions or people having to pay you a tribute
These are just some ideas, and it might be too early for such talk but it is something to think about
I also had another idea, when you (OS) mentioned having classic charicters as NPCs it thought great then there might not be 10 variants of the same character poping up everywhere then I thought well what would be realy cool is if people could buy and trade characters
Again just an idea I don't know if it could work

Regarding intelligence, why not just make it a linkable attribute between the team as a whole which allows them to concentrate fire on a specific target or something?
Think of it like the highest INT guy calling fire on a specific target and other transformers which are intelligent enough will comprehend this call for concentrated fire and adjust accordingly.

Right there you lost me on not being hard to organize.

Given what OS has said already, let's see how this plays out. We're still thinking of stats in terms of V1 which apparently is invalid.
However, if a single "smart bot" walks into a fight it is logical that their smarts can be properly shared around; the thing I'm waiting for is how we define what our smarts do (e.g. harder to hit, target choice, etc.)

Right there you lost me on not being hard to organize.
No I don't think it would be that hard to organize actually, you create a topic in Darkmount or wherever and come up with a set of requirements to become the leader as long as people agree, which would may be the hardest part, I don't see any problem.
Another thought I've been having for a while is that you should be able fight your own faction in the arena, or even pit your own bots against each other, even better would be if you were able to issue challenges to speicific targets rather than joining a queu
The best idea I've come up with though is that there should be a robot mode with a hammer for a hand, you might have guessed my main guy is Called Hammerstein -
I know its unlikely but would it actually be possible for that to happen?

Ok for one: Ranking seemed to be the only reason for playing. I started playing way back 5 years ago so I pretty much did everthing I could do that was in reach up until IKE screwed us! So after starting from scatch that seemed the only thing left to do. Ok and Two. If your going to have the mentality of everone is going to beat you in everything whats the point of playing out of mindlessly hitting buttons. Which yes there are those people out there who somehow still provide a challenge to some. Weird. I was not complaining anyway just simply proving a mute cause. Hell if that was the case we wouldn't have peope who dedicate themself to anything. By the by I still hold the top score for House of the Dead at my local arcade.

I think you missed the point. Play the game to have fun. If it's not fun, don't play. If the only reason you have to play is to say you're better then someone, then you're playing for the wrong reason. It's pretty simple.

I think a great addition to this game would be some McGuffins. Rare collectibles that have an insanely low % chance of appearing whenever you do something like enter a mision, win a mission, go to an area, etc.

Keys.
Chance of X in Y of lost, what are the chances you can FIND them? how does the "scanning" work for alt-modes? only those you can find in your team or those that can be "purchased" (maybe during field trips?
Weapons cost will that be (slightly) related to "recharge"? since weapons can be free etc. Is recharge rate (say 180) timed or is that influenced but the bot.
Will only "melee" weapons be based on strength?
Does a blast radius affect "strafe"?
when you create missions, can you set the numbers or is that decided on your xp? just as factions able to enter the missions (fight)?
Does a triple changer effectively reduce the amoount of bots you can have? (robot points?)
Are Counter attacks purely based on when a bot gets attacked or is it able to counter for a teammate?
How do faction points work?
Health and Spark are seperate.. Health and Energon? or is spark used in say, Combining?
How can we move bots from one area to another? will we be able to "guard" areas?
Are tactics (alt. mode abilities) trained or earned?
will the loot option influence your standing within a faction? as in, when you keep al loot to yourself?
