You make a good point Will. I never thought about it that hard, but always assumed Springer, Blurr, Arcee, Rod, etc. came as reinforcements from Cybertron, but Earth in the movie IS the future, so they could be robots in future Earth mode disguise.

I just use the word Cybertonian as a catch all for all alt modes that are space future vehicles. Just to distinguish between...

The first being completely made up, and the second being based on a real world helicopter.

But that is just how I use the word, Cybertronian.

This raises another point to ponder about about in regards to altmode types. In Masterforce, all the Pretenders who had been on Earth since the Neolithic era turn into sci-fi vehicles.

But, the show took place in the future from what was considered the present in 1988 (just like how TFTM, Season 3 and The Headmasters both took place in the future from what was considered the present in 1986-1987).

Yet, this future showed a number of parts of the world to still be as contemporarily-advanced as the world was in 1988, unlike how TFTM, Season 3, and The Headmasters gave heavy focus to parts of the world that had indeed become futuristic and Cybertronian-levels of advanced by that point.

Therefore, would one consider the sci-fi vehicle altmodes of the Earth-based Pretenders in this contemporary-styled future setting to be Cybertronian vehicles that they'd kept for all of their time on Earth since the Neolithic era, having simply never scanned new altmodes in all of their time on Earth, or recently-scanned Earth vehicles of the future that simply conformed more to the futuristic style in TFTM/Season 3/The Headmasters?

I would have said they just never scanned new alt modes after all that time.

Seriously though, the Pretender human shell from SGMF was the alt mode in my opinion. Otherwise they were totally Cybertronian. Triple changers if you will. Like the robots shown a few posts back. Bringing it all back together.

One more thing to note about their sci-fi vehicle altmodes that I forgot to mention was that they were only seen onscreen during the present day time of that show. We never saw if they had them during any of the flashbacks to their time on Earth in the ancient past, as only their Pretender shell forms (well, those of the Decepticons, that is) were shown in those flashbacks.

Wouldn't the original cartoon have us believe cars without wheels are Cybertronian, but cars with wheels are futuristic Earth? I realize that doesn't really have anything to do with modern toy lines, but I think that was the original line of thought in the cartoon. Cars like Hot Rod, Arcee, and Kup were more like concept cars of the '80s and aren't even as crazy as some of the cars that are on the market today. They don't look like the cars we saw in episode 1 on Cybertron with no wheels and in some cases wings. Springer's helicopter mode may not look realistic, but it's still an obvious helicopter, it's a far cry from the tetra jets which look more like rockets than jets.

You need that Thrilling 30 Springer. It is one of the greatest Transformers toys we have ever gotten.

The little things:

Instruction manual like PW Blastoff is now on glossy higher resolution paper and not that cheap blurred newsprint type Hb has been using. Finally you can make sense of the instruction.

Box like PW BO, well, you can reuse him again and pack him away later.

The bad, thanks to how the foot claw was packaged, mine has a paint scratch.

The good! Or should I say, the BEST!

For me, I assumed that because we time jumped and the humans knew about the Transformers (Autobot City, Earth Defense Command, etc.) the later Autobots didn't need to scan Earth modes as a disguise.

On the other hand, Earth vehicles by that point in time looked different from how they had looked in the 80s (and in our real world present time) anyway.

The wave 5 deluxes from Transformers Titans Return were hard to find. While they were found in the US, it was sparse and some fans never saw the wave. Well, that will all be changing, a year later. As we reported earlier, Ollie's has bought a lot of the Hasbro stock that was left over from the Toysrus bankruptcy and were going to start stocking all these toys in their stores. Fans went on the hunt and came back stating that Titans Return toys were part of this stock and that included the fifth wave deluxes (Windblade, Twin Twist, Misfire and Wolf Wire) and voyagers as well, such as Octone and Blitzwing. The deluxes are being sold for $7.99. The images come to us from the Cafe Cybertron Facebook page.

So, are you still missing these toys? Will you be going on the hunt soon? Which do you hope to pick up?

Yeah Springer's great. I sold Sandstorm though cos while i liked some aspects of him, the whole 'taking one of the most streamlined tidy robot figures and sticking two frickin' huge bits of vehicle kibble on him' just annoyed me. I just couldn't find a way to arrange them that didn't take up excessive amounts of shelf space or look at all pleasing to my eyes. Still I had some fun with him before I sold him.

I went to the Ollie's in Natchez, MS today. They didn't have any of the stuff reported here. They did have a bunch of the white DIY Loyal Subjects Optimus Prime. I forgot to take a picture though.

Anyone want to grab me a Windblade? I figure you can probably stick it in a flat rate USPS box and still come in under the original MSRP which is perfectly fine by me.
