Now that some pics have been released of the upcoming Universe Starscream, which version is more worth buying, that or the Henkei?

I already have the Classics versions and like him, but some of the paint apps leave a little to be desired, at least when he's next to the rest of my very G1 accurate Classics/Botcon seekers.

I do think that the new Hasbro version looks really nice.
But I'm kind of a minimalist....

However, I do not regret and would still probably buy the Henkei version, even if I didn't already own the 2 that I have.

I'll be picking up the Universe one. Looks better than the Henkei, and no chrome. :D Not sure what to do with my Classics Screamer.

I'd buy the Hasbro sooner than the Henkei. Screamer didn't have chrome on it's guns in G1, so I feel it to be a negative point.

(anybody can tell me if his torso is DC, as the G1 counterpart? That'd be a point for me towards buying it)

I have to admit, the new Hasbro Starscream is a nice bright white, the way it should be whereas the Henkei version's dull creamy grey really doesn't look as nice. Henkei Screamer does have much more detailing over all than the Hasbro version though.

At the end of the day though, if I had the choice to make over I'd go for the new Hasbro one because it's the primary colours that are most important.

Do what I did and do A Sunstorm re-paint :) I am a fan of the Henkei Starscream personally. He matches my Henkei TC and SW. But, I will be picking up the universe version as well. IMO you can never have too many starscreams.

Personally, I think it's a trade-off. Takara's paint apps are superior, giving it a nice, clean look, and if you happen to have Classics Screamer than you can just switch the guns and you don't have to deal with chrome. On the other hand, the colors on Hasbro's version are fantastic, and completely accurate to the show, but I'm sure the figure will fall to Hasbro's growing QC and paint issues.

Being the consumer whore that I am, I'll be picking it up anyway.

Personally, just judging by the pics from Seibertron's galleries of Henkei SS and the pics of the updated Uni SS, I'm still more interested in Henkei SS. I like the little details like the fact that Henkei colored the landing gears.

Seriously guys, did we NOT learn another lesson from the Universe Vector Prime?

Vector Prime which looked amazing in the promo pics only to be an undetailed lump of plastic in production pics?

Universe Starscream is unlikely to look anywhere near as good as his promo pic release.

Thanks, CP for your nugget of sunshine.

To answer your original question...I think the Henkei version is probably the way to go.

That being said, I really like the stripe pattern of the original Classics Starscream. It was a good update.

I got my Henkei SS in june before we saw Universe SS. Once I saw Hasbro just didn't apply some chrome, gray, and white paint apps, I laughed for a long while. The fact is I'm happier w/ Henkei, and I'd only buy Universe SS if I wanted to do TFW Wheeljaxx's Classics Lio Kaiser.

It would be a problem if all we had available were Hasbro's pictures.

The in-package image is not helpful.

The production pictures show the exact thing I was stating with a lack of detail, lack of wash, and generally do not look as good as the shopped photos.

Compare Henkei Starscream:
Image

While the Universe one does look nice, the point is that until we have the figure in hand, you had better believe that any pictures from Hasbro are going to be lies.

The pictures from AC toy don't really do anything to discredit what I've said either. The figure looks good, but not as good as the pre-production pictures. Further, the AC toys pictures show all of the places where Universe Starscream lacks details that Henkei Starscream has.

Whatever though.

Yeah. Already covered the differences in detail.

The point was not to discredit you but to provide the additional references to the toy that I used to compare.

As soon as someone points out where G1 Starscream had chrome, I'll consider the Henkei version. :P

The way I look at it, you can toss any of the other versions of Starscreams launchers onto the Henkei version to replace the chrome ones, but adding the detailing to non-Henkei versions is more work than it's worth.

(I can't believe how many times in the past week I've actually defended Japanese versions as superior to US releases. Topsy-turvy world!)

Maybe, but I still end up with a set of chrome launchers somewhere along the line. And I don't see the Henkei as being superior to the Universe version in any way, so... yeah.
