I can't believe how close it is; a lot of people are going to be dissappointed either way, aren't they?

I was thinking yesterday - a lot of people were concerned that the RARE alts wouldn't be rare enough if the Alt Rotator was set to two weeks. Well, wouldn't that depend on how many Alts are in the database altogether?

I know that OS is only planning to add 10 more alts to the pool, but then he'll probably add another 10-14 in July, right?

So unless he'll also be retiring alts, the RARE alts will keep getting rarer...

Okay, and one more thing. What if the RARE alts weren't completely random? What if they circulated in every 6 months? Then when people looked saw someone with a certain RARE alt, they could say, 'Ah, he hasn't reset his bot for 4 months and 7 days!' (As if they would care. I hate to break it to the guys that are proud of their exclusive alts, but I don't think anyone is cares or is in awe of your determination to not reset your bots. Sorry.) And then the people with those alts would have some opportunity to adapt as the game changes.

There are approximately 40 rare alts per side right now. And what I wrote was a true rotator, not a randomizer. That means the rare alt you see today WILL come up again when all the rare alts have a chance to rotate through.

Maybe so. But then there is personal pride. Sticking with an alt that's got a sucky configuration. Putting up with it while struggling to earn the xp to build a decent configuration while also watching others rise in the rankings around you. I see it as another little aspect of the game people can do if they choose to.

Most of us already knew. Burn is spot on, It doesnt matter if anyone cares, keeping that damn tie fighter working has been the best challenge this game offered for me.

Sounds like round 2 will have the same appeal. Should be fun!

Lets do some maths, shall we.

OS has stated that it is a rotator, not a randomiser, so let us assume that a given alt doesn't appear again until the sequence has been cycled through. I'm sure OS will correct me if I am mistaken about how the rotator works.

80 Rare alts per side, 5 available at a time. So that's a cycle of 16 rotations before a rare alt shows up again.

At 4 weeks between rotation, that's over a year before a given rare alt reappears for selection.

At 2 weeks that's about 7 months (give or take). Rare alts will still be rare compared to the common and core alts. Also, remember that not all rares will appeal to all players, so I doubt they will profilerate to valueless if on a more frequent rotation speed. So, for me, 2 weeks is acceptable and we won't have to tell new players "Sorry, you just missed that alt, see you in a year."
